What a place to headquarter your visit to SW Colorado! Edge of the Pines is a wonderful 4 bed., 2.5 bath home overlooking the river below and beautiful Vallecito Lake. Vallecito ("Little Valley") Lake is located in the beautiful San Juan Mountains and is on the edge of Colorado's largest Wilderness area, The Weminuche. Hiking trails abound at Vallecito Lake. The Vallecito Creek and Pine River Trails take you up beautiful canyons and valleys.
The Cave Basin trail is accessed by a Forest Service road up Middle Mountain and starts you off at over 10,000 ft.. The Lake Eileen Trail is a strenuous but short trail to a beautiful mountain lake. The full-service marina provides a wide variety of boat rentals. Even non-fishermen have fun cruising the lake in a pontoon boat. Horseback riding couldn't be finer! The trails are scenic and the guides knowledgeable.
Don't miss out on the "cowboy" breakfast ride. Several fine restaurants are available when you don't feel like cooking at "home". Run out of something?.....There are also a couple of stores awaiting to re-stock your shelves.
A SW Colorado vacation is not complete without spending some time in the Durango area. Edge of the Pines is located about 26 miles from the city limits. Lots more to do in and around Durango. Folks come from all over the world to ride the Durango-Silverton narrow-gauge train and visit Mesa Verde Nat'l Park. These two highlights only begin your SW Colorado vacation.
You won't want to miss river rafting down the Animas River, the highly acclaimed Bar-D Chuckwagon/western entertainment show and jeeping the numerous Forest Service roads. Durango provides wonderful downtown shopping and a wide variety of excellent restaurants and special events.
New in 2011! In an effort to make our home more affordable to couples and small families we have established a new and lower rate based on double occupancy. The rate for larger parties has, nevertheless, remained the same for the last 4 years!
