We traveled to Bahia Gigante with about 40 of our close friends. We rented 4 of the homes in the area. We felt very lucky to have stayed at La Joya. The others were nice but La Joya was extra special. The decor was very tasteful and the view is spectacular. The house was spotless. The area is family friendly and very safe. It was the most relaxing vacation I have ever had. I can not wait to return...

We had a fantastic time in Nicaragua, thanks to the accommodations & magnificent views at Casa La Joya. From our poolside perch, we were mesmerized daily, by the breathtaking vista & the sound of the crashing waves against the cliffs below. Upon our arrival, we easily selected our bedrooms because there were water views from every room. We enjoyed breakfast every morning from the west deck and were joined by a variety of birds of which our favorite were the hummingbirds. For several days, in the late afternoon we were thrilled to witness whales, breaching, as they migrated south. The staff were very helpful; we did not have a car, but the housekeeper arranged for a driver to take us to restaurants & activities. The beach & Aqua restaurant were within walking distance. We enjoyed seeing the Howler monkeys, the flora & fauna, while following the path down to the restaurant. We highly recommend Casa La Joya to anyone visiting Centra America.

This is indeed an amazing home and the road is being paved now almost the whole way to this area from the Pan American Highway. The owner was great it making sure that we arrived alright and everything was in order. The only suggestion I have is be prepared to not have cell or internet at the house. It comes and goes, but it is mostly non existant. The house cleaning service offered is weak at best. We found the workers napping around the property. Lots of lurking around and very little cleaning. Even though there were only two of us staying at the house, these employees even complained to the owner that we left the house a mess. If you do elect to go with the cleaning service offered, Be specific as to what time you want them every day and what they will be doing and that them hanging around will not be tolerated. Wonderful house, Superb location and community, friendly owners. I would stay here again if given the chance.

Owner response: Nicaragua is a great place to vacation, but certainly does not have the infrastructure that the US has. Although we constantly work on improvements to the internet/cell phone signal, one will not always have signal. Even with raising our antenna 15 feet higher, and having a signal booster, internet is not 100% of the time. My neighbors in our community have the same issue. The last day, the travelers asked to be able to leave around 10, but didn't leave until around 12. We had maintenance people waiting for them to leave so they could enter the bedroom and make repairs. I believe there was not the best communication by my employees to the guests.

Our family stayed at Casa La Joya for 4 nights in September. As soon as the driver pulled up to the house we all said "Wow." The view of the ocean crashing into the cliff below us was absolutely breathtaking. When we arrived we were greeted by the house manager who did the food shopping for us, cooked our meals and even made fresh citrus and fruit juices for us daily. The accommodations were nicely detailed with native hardwoods used throughout. Each morning we were greeted by the magnificent views of the pacific ocean as as we pulled back our window shades. The pool area was very well maintained, with a beautiful outdoor lounging area that overlooked lush landscaping - floating in the pool and watching the sun set over the pacific was amazing. Just down the road we found a spa. We had massage treatments in an open-air space that overlooked the ocean. We went up to a nearby volcano where we zip-lined down the tropical canopy. Everyone was genuinely friendly to us wherever we went. Overall we found the area of the country to be relaxing, restful and adventurous all at the same time.

In the backwoods rainforest of Nicaragua, Casa La Joya is the best decision we could have made for a romantic vacation. Once we crossed the Nicaraguan border, we winded up and down unpaved roads into the tropical forest stretching to the ocean. As we pull up to Casa La Joya which is carved out of the unspoiled Nicaraguan landscape on a secluded piece of Pacific Coastline, it was so incredibly private that all you can hear are the birds and monkeys being drowned out by the waves crashing against the rocks - which you could listen to forever! At Casa La Joya, romance and luxury are an understatement. From the linens, unique regional art work, relaxing infinity pool and watching the sunrise from your bed over the rainforest to the way we were looked after, everything was Perfect! Fabulously designed from hardwoods by Master Craftsman Humberto who's also an artist and created the furnishings that evoke a polished jungle feel. It was the “Green Season” and we witnessed how the Tropical Dry Forest changes with the seasons. It’s sunny every morning and it rains later in the day making it the perfect time to relax and refresh ourselves amidst the peaceful beauty and natural harmony. Mornings started with a delicious breakfast prepared by Chef Ana with local dishes, homemade tortillas and fruits that were in season-some of which were actually grown on the property. We enjoyed massages and facials at Aqua Wellness Resort which is in the same gated community. Built into a forested hillside, it makes one of the country's most breathtaking settings. We got to smell natural oils and decide which one we wanted for our treatments. We decided on the Almond Oil and bought some later at the Masaya Market! Whether you reserve Casa La Joya all for yourself or just part of it, Jeannie, the owner, makes sure that you are very spoiled yet have more than enough private time as well. Jeannie went with us to nearby Grenada where we enjoyed a fabulous lunch at El Zaguan. Steaks are grilled and seasoned in an open flame pit and the taste and accompaniments were excellent. We visited the Guadalupe Church located at the end of la calzada-great architecture and full with history! Don’t miss Rancho Santana, a 2,700 lush ranch and the best in all of Nica' blending local fare with 5 star execution. We want to return to enjoy the beauty, serenity, and pampering at Casa La Joya because it's one of those rare gems making it the romantic vacation we were dreaming of!

The name fits; La Joya truly is a 'Jewel'. My wife and I were blessed to be able to spend a week in paradise. The home itself is quality. Excellence was requested of the builder and he built excellence. The bedrooms are large are clean. The bathrooms are spacious. I really enjoyed the large walk in showers. The kitchen is contemporary and the appliances are all state of the art. Anna, the head chef, cooked incredible food for us all week. It was delicious local cuisine! We thoroughly enjoyed the views from the home. Stunning views could be found anywhere in the multi-leveled home. The beach was private and beautiful. My wife and I enjoyed hiking around the area. We enjoyed watching the colorful crabs scurry about the cliffs. We tried our best to talk to the wild monkeys that climbed in the canopy around the neighborhood. La Joya is not far from some incredible surfing as well. We walked down to Playa Colorado one afternoon and wished we were brave enough to surf the monster waves that were swelling in the water in front of us. We always felt safe. The locals are wonderful. Also, there was security stationed all over the neighborhood. La Joya is a great place for a secluded and restful get-away. We are thankful for the time we spent there. We wish that we were still relaxing in the infinity pool watching the sun set over the Pacific Ocean every night!

We stayed in this beautiful home during the Christmas season. The photo's don't do this home justice as it really is incredible. Our family group consisted of my husband, myself, our 3 grown children and 2 of their spouses. This home had lots of privacy, but yet great living areas to gather in. It was very clean and well maintained with a great pool. The owners were very helpful and informative. They helped arrange a driver for us and even had groceries brought in. The housekeeper cut up fresh fruit for us daily and was so wonderful. The views from this house are spectacular and there is a great swimming beach within walking distance. I recommend this property highly.

It is an amazing place, so peaceful, ocean view is really fantastic and romantic. The place is clean and well-maintain. Redonda beach is beautiful place where you can see the amazing sunset colors. La Joya is the most amazing place in Redonda Bay.

We had a fantastic time and absolutely loved your home and the surrounding communities!!! I can not tell you what a wonderful vacation it was for us and I definitely see us returning next year! Oh so beautiful! We ate at aqua and loved it! We also ate at a new place in gigante that we loved owned by a couple (she from Spain he from USA). The surfing was great at hacienda iguana (panga drops and playa colorado) but difficult on most days to get in to but we just kept saying we were going to NSR surf shop and this seemed to work. Mike at nica retreats was wonderful!! Gave us such great info about everything and we rented our surf boards from him. I just loved walking to aqua with my book and sitting on that beautiful beach relaxing! Your house is so beautiful!! The bedrooms so great w private baths and air conditioning for nights.

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2010

About the owner: We live in Florida. Dan, having lived in Spain for six years during his studies is very fluent in Spanish. Jeannie not so much. We work with WEGO Ministries for mission work each year in Nicaragua.

Why the Owner Chose Bahia Gigante:
We have been enjoying the people of Nicaragua since 1998, coming on yearly mission trips. A few years ago, a friend who had been visiting all the new resorts in Nicaragua, told us we had to see this unbelievable jewel of a place called Redonda Bay on the Pacific. We went down the next day and were in love. The beauty truly was breathtaking. So we said 'Let's build a house here!' Just completed January 2010. Wait until you see it!

The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
