Location: Gatlinburg, East, Tennessee, USA (Main Northern Gateway to the Smoky Mountains!)

Accommodations:  3-Story, A-Frame Chalet, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths (Sleeps 8-10)

The 'Bear Trax' Chalet is attractively located in a unique residential area (Chalet Village) right on the main road that traverses Gatlinburg's western slope, and from the front deck there's a gorgeous view of the third tallest peak in the Smoky Mountains - Mount LeConte.

The large wooded lot provides excellent privacy and beauty, and noise is practically non-existent in this area. This entire chalet sits on solid ground, and does not perch perilously over sloping landscapes as many in this area do, and is located only 5 minutes from both downtown Gatlinburg and Ober Gatlinburg (the ski lodge).

The chalet is a beautiful, three-story A-Frame, with three full levels (over 2100 square feet). Inside and out the chalet displays a pride of workmanship with all cedar wood and cut stone. The center-of-room stone fireplace adds for a cozy and even romantic getaway, and it's not unusual for the moon to slowly drift across all the frontroom windows almost every season, adding to a spectacular visual delight on clear nights!

There are four private bedrooms throughout the chalet which can easily accommodate eight guests. All bedrooms have queen-size beds (with new mattresses), furniture, closets, and amenities. On the main level are two bedrooms, with an adjoining full bathroom. The upstairs Master bedroom has its own private bathroom, balcony, and TV/DVD/VCR. And the lower level has been remodeled for a large fourth bedroom and full bathroom. Bring along an air mattress if you like, and let the kids 'camp out' in the frontroom for an experience they'll never forget!

The kitchen is complete with all necessary appliances - stove/oven, microwave, refrigerator w/ice maker, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, can opener, and complete utensils, cook and plate ware. All you need to supply are the groceries during your stay. (Or check out any of the fabulous restaurants downtown!)

Just outside our sliding glass doors on our extended main level deck, and tucked within an ideal spot surrounded by large trees and pines, is our five-seater hot tub with excellent circulating jets. In the frontroom we've added comfy over-stuffed couches. And in the lower level of the chalet is a large gameroom with a professional size slate pool table, foosball table, electronic dartboard, as well as cable TV.

Less than a mile away is Ober Gatlinburg, a beautiful modern ski resort with excellent ski slopes, a large indoor ice skating rink, restaurants, lounges, and even a bear zoo. The aerial tram to Ober Gatlinburg (a visual delight as well) takes you directly to the heart of downtown in 15 minutes, and you can walk throughout downtown Gatlinburg with its numerous shops, sights, and restaurants.

This chalet has been known for its bear sightings (and the reason for its name), with now 35 to-date (two new sightings as of Sept 2008!). Just remember... DO NOT FEED THE BEARS!

  • Bear Trax provided a wonderfully relaxing getaway that was close to all the attractions. The hot tub was wonderful. We look forward to returning with all our family next summer. Roger is most accomodating;you could not ask for a better owner for a rental property.

  • We stayed in the cabin in April of this year. We had a great time.The cabin is beautiful and the hot tub is wonderful after a hard day shopping. :) If you need exercise, just take a walk up the street and back. It's a beautiful area and you can see some of the fancy houses up close. Gatlinburg was great. The aquarium was a treat, as was Ripley's and the sky lift. Obergatlinburg was closed when we were there for repairs, so we did not get to see that. The outlets in Pigeon Forge are great, especially the ones that sit off the main road near the Nascar gocarts. Speaking of the Nascar carts, they are really expensive. Our kids (18 and 19) did 3 or 4 other cart places all for less than the cost of the Nascar one. Roger, we appreciate all the help you gave us and again we really enjoyed the cabin. It may be a few years before we can do it again, but we will look for this cabin when we do. Thanks again.

  • Roger, WOW! Your Bear Trax Chalet is just as you described. Very spacious. Plenty of room and very tastefully decorated and well stocked with supplies and utensils.We were not lucky enough to see any creatures except squirrels but the stay there was awsome. We go to the Smokies every fall break and this chalet has been the best one we have had yet. Loved the hot tub, used it daily.Also the view on our last morning there was gorgeous. We had a true view of"The 'Smokey' Mountains" with the clouds down in the mountains. Thanks so much for answering all of our questions, you are a great person to do business with and I hope to stay with you again in the future. Thanks for sharing your wonderful Chalet with us.

  • Dear Roger, We had a wonderful stay at the Chalet.It was nice and quite. My two grandsons enjoyed the big beanbag that you have there. The weather was perfect. on our second morning we had visits from three racoons and then the same morning there were five bears. Four little ones and one larger one. So the Chalet has the right name. It was wonderful just looking at them. Hope to be able to rent again next year. Thanks for everything.

  • We enjoyed our stay at Bear Trax. This was our first visit to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge. The chalet was spacious and private. The hot tub was an added bonus. Very scenic. We have never rented before but now will do again. Pigeon Forge had so many things to do. We had never seen three level go-cart tracks. So many places to shop and eat. We compared Pigeon Forge to Myrtle Beach without the ocean. Spent some time in Gatlinburg. The highlight was the Ripley's Aquarium. What a great place to visit. The chalet is conveniently located between both cities. Well worth the drive wherever you live.

  • Wow, what a wonderful week we had at Bear Trax. The chalet was great, we had plenty of room, it was especially nice having 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. We had 5 adults and 2 children and everyone had a terrific time, the game room was a big hit with everyone (mainly the pool table) My husband enjoyed the hot tub. We met "Rocky" but I think HE may be a SHE because she introduced us to 4 of her kids on Friday evening, she came up for a snack then ran up the tree to her family. The kids got to see a mother bear and 3 cubs while they were at the pool, they were crossing the parking lot. (how exciting) Thanks Roger for having such an incredible place and sharing it with others, we will return to Bear Trax. I think I could live there! We have been vacationing in G'Burg for over 15 years and we always find something new to do. This year was our lazy year, we enjoyed relaxing at Bear Trax. Roger, the kids left ya a birdouse that they decorated themselves. Enjoy!! Thanks again! Pam

  • I have stayed in many homes off VRBO, but no one ever provided us so much info. The home was very nice, clean and comfy. My boys are 7 and 5 and they loved the chalet as well. I would say to anyone looking....Look no futher this is the place you want to stay!

There's so much more I want to put into place to make it even better, if I could get enough time! UGH! But those projects, both big and small, are coming together with each year. So I would encourage you to keep in mind that Bear Trax will be even better, but without losing what it has so far. I sincerely hope everyone visiting not only Bear Trax, but the Smokies and all this awesome scenic area will have some very good times to talk and share with families and friends. I know I have.   • Hi, Sorry for being so late, we were at the cabins during fall 2006. It's a great place. A perfect place to have a nice vacation with friends and family. We were a group of 7 adults and 2 kids and did not have any problems. Roger is very helping and did pass valuable information before we reached there. In fact because of one of the kid we had to break one of the doors and were worried how much he will charge us for the damage, but he was real reasonable. We would definately love to go back.

  • Roger, Sorry for the delay in writing. My family stayed at your wonderful chalet in August last year. What a fantastic time! There was plenty of room for the six adults and four kids. My kids were always wanting to "go back to the cabin" when we were out running around. Several times since our stay they have asked when we can go back to the cabin. Thanks for a great stay at a great price!! We would definetely stay again!
