The 'Bear Trax' Chalet is attractively located in a unique residential area (Chalet Village) right on the main road that traverses Gatlinburg's western slope, and from the front deck there's a gorgeous view of the third tallest peak in the Smoky Mountains - Mount LeConte.
The large wooded lot provides excellent privacy and beauty, and noise is practically non-existent in this area. This entire chalet sits on solid ground, and does not perch perilously over sloping landscapes as many in this area do, and is located only 5 minutes from both downtown Gatlinburg and Ober Gatlinburg (the ski lodge).
The chalet is a beautiful, three-story A-Frame, with three full levels (over 2100 square feet). Inside and out the chalet displays a pride of workmanship with all cedar wood and cut stone. The center-of-room stone fireplace adds for a cozy and even romantic getaway, and it's not unusual for the moon to slowly drift across all the frontroom windows almost every season, adding to a spectacular visual delight on clear nights!
There are four private bedrooms throughout the chalet which can easily accommodate eight guests. All bedrooms have queen-size beds, furniture, closets, and amenities. On the main level are two bedrooms, with an adjoining full bathroom. The upstairs Master bedroom has its own private bathroom, balcony, and TV/DVD/VCR. And the lower level has been remodeled for a large fourth bedroom and full bathroom. Bring along an air mattress if you like, and let the kids 'camp out' in the frontroom for an experience they'll never forget!
The kitchen is complete with all necessary appliances - stove/oven, microwave, refrigerator w/ice maker, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, can opener, and complete utensils, cook and plate ware. All you need to supply are the groceries during your stay. (Or check out any of the fabulous restaurants downtown!)
Just outside our sliding glass doors on our extended main level deck, and tucked within an ideal spot surrounded by large trees and pines, is our five-seater hot tub with excellent circulating jets. In the frontroom we've added comfy and excellent recliner couches. And in the lower level of the chalet is a large gameroom with a professional size slate pool table, foosball table, electronic dartboard, as well as cable TV.
Less than a mile away is Ober Gatlinburg, a beautiful modern ski resort with top shelf ski slopes, a large indoor ice skating rink, restaurants, lounges, and even a bear zoo. The aerial tram to Ober Gatlinburg (a visual delight as well) takes you directly to the heart of downtown in 15 minutes, and you can walk throughout downtown Gatlinburg with its numerous shops, sights, and restaurants.
This chalet has been known for its bear sightings and the reason for its name, with over 75 sightings in 2011 and 29 sightings to date in 2012! Just remember... DO NOT FEED THE BEARS!
Since 'Bear Trax' is privately owned and managed, prices are very modest and competitive, with special seasonal offers. For those of you needing a bit more feedback and detail on Bear Trax, we personally invite you to browse some of our past guests excellent comments in the 'comment' section below! But most of all, we invite you to come see why a mountain chalet can be your next perfect get-away and vacation!

We stayed at Bear Trax just before Thanksgiving, and weren't really sure what to expect since this was our first time renting a property for vacation. We were so pleasantly suprised! First of all, Roger was an absolute JOY to talk to, made everything so easy! My family consists of myself, my husband, 15 yr old son, 6 yr old son and 4 yr old daughter. There was more than enough space for all of us and yet never seemed to be too far away from each other. The chalet was in pristine condition, tons of pots and pans to do all of our cooking, beds were comfy and there was even a selection of books that my husband got into (he ended up coming home and purchasing one of them for himself). The game room was fantastic for us! We had nightly pool and dart competitions, and I must say my kids got pretty good! Nightly visits into the hot tub were also a must! We visited the aquarium which is a must see!!! Tons of cool exhibits and hands on activities....I'm not sure who had the better time, us or the kids! Cades Cove was amazing! Make sure to stop at the visitor center before going down the trail. The lady was extremely helpful and with her help we managed to see a mother bear and her 3 cubs walking through the woods, a big male who had plopped himself by a walnut tree, and tons of other things we would've missed. The chalet is in PERFECT distance to everything! 5 mins to Gatlinburg one way and 5 mins to Pigeon Forge the other. The National Park was seriously right around the corner.....the views (even after 80% of the leaves had already lost their color and had dropped) were outstanding! My kids are already asking when we can go back and enjoy some of the warm weather stuff....and of course they are asking to stay at Bear Trax! Thanks Roger!!!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I got this place just before the memorial day long weekend due to a cancellation. Roger was great to work with. The place is very nice and has a character to it. Close to the National Park and also downtown gatlingburg. On the first day we had a Black Bear come right upto the deck !Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My family and I stayed at Bear Trax for a family vacation and we had a wonderful time. The beds were comfortable and the cabin is as described. We enjoyed the views of LeConte from the picture window. We also enjoyed the wide parking area that was nice and level. We have stayed at cabins before that had steep, hard to negotiate driveways, but that wasn't a problem here. We loved working with Roger, and we felt we got excellent value for our money. The only "ding" I would give is that the lighting was dim at night. This is not a big deal, but I think it is worth mentioning. I would definitely stay here again, and I appreciated working with someone as friendly and honest as Roger. He helped us to have a great stay in the Smokys, and we want to come back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanx for your response on your recent stay Bill, glad to hear you all had a Great Time! And seeing Mt LeConte out of the frontroom window and off the front deck was perhaps one of the leading reasons I purchased Besr Trax to begin with - it's an awesome view, and especially great when you watch clouds roll over it. And thanx on your feedback too...actually heading down to my place this week for my annual B-Day vaca, and will be accenting the lighting throughout various areas of Bear Trax as well.

This cabin was amazing with beautiful views and Roger was great to work with .The cabin in itself was a vacation.... Loved being able to sit on the deck get a lil sun on the warm days while the kids sat in the hottub, the hottub also felt great on those chilly mornings for us adults we had a family of 7 with lots of room to spare in this large 3 level cabin, the view is awesome the cabin it so nice and has everything we needed ..We did encounter on the warmest night a 1 yr old bear cub who just noseied around the cabin siffting through the leaves and such on the ground we didnt get near him, but was fun to watch him from a distance on the 3rd floor deck, do Beware this was late night near 12:00 am midnight and he even stood up looked and smelled in our Jeep ( the kids dont want us to wash the Jeep now as it still has a bear paw on it ) lol we were smart and didnt leave ANYTHING in our car or outside so he just went on down the driveway until we couldnt see him anymore this was an Amazing Expierence for us adults as well as the kids ....Thank you so much Roger for sharing your cabin and giving us "Our First Wildlife Expierence with a Bear " ..... Pierce's, Smith's and Swift'sRecommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This was our second time staying At beartrax. We really enjoyed it and hated to leave. As before, Roger was great and very easy to work with when reserving and making final coordinations. You can not find a better place in the area that sleeps a large family for such an affordable price. The pool table, foosball table, and hot tub were all a hit for us and the kids. It is a cozy chalet, has most everything needed, and is peaceful. I would definitely recommend staying here and as I said this is our 2nd time staying here in 2 years and we will definitely stay again. We did not see any bears but did have a turkey that kept responding to my sons turkey call. Roger also told us he plans to enlarge the deck, improve the game room, and update the main floor bathroom this year. Will be even better next time we visit. Thanks Roger!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We really enjoyed our week in the smokies and our stay at Beartrax. Roger was great, very easy to make coordinations with as well as friendly and helpful. Our family of 7 stayed for a full week during our kids spring break, we also had grandparents come up for a couple days. The chalet was very cozy and quiet as well as close to Gatlinburg, less than 5 minutes to downtown gatlinburg, 5-8 minutes to ober gatlinburg, and less than 10 minutes to entrance to the smokies mtn park. Our kids had a blast playing pool and using the jacuzzi. We used the charcoal grill twice and Roger provides wood for the fireplace that we used once while there. Also a nice view on the deck. Thanks for letting us stay at your chalet, the kids already want to come back next year.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing.

I first want to apologize for this taking me so long to write. Our family stayed at Bear Trax in Dec 2010. We were there for Christmas. It was absolutely amazing. Locals say it was the first time it had snowed on Christams Day in over 20 years. The cabin was beautiful and absolutey breath taking veiws. We would consider this property hands down if we ever decided to take another trip that time of the year. We couldn't have asked for an easy person to deal with than Roger. My hat goes off to you and again I am very sorry it took me so long to post.Recommended for: Families with teenagers.
