Big Pine at Yosemite Forest Lodge - a Unique Mountain Cabin
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Surrounded by tall pines and just minutes from Yosemite's southern entrance in the residential community of Fish Camp, This traditional yet unique mountain cabin can be your family-friendly home away from home while exploring the natural beauty of Yosemite National Park. The Big Pine cabin is the larger of two cabins at the Yosemite Forest Lodge.
To get here it's just a short drive off of Highway 41, through the forest along a narrow road that was once a railroad right-of-way. When you arrive you'll find your home situated in a gently-sloped clearing surrounded by a majestic grove of gigantic pines.
Outside your home there is an open yard area, extensive decks and a covered front porch so you can enjoy the forest environment comfortably in any weather.
The elevation here is just over 5000 feet; it is nearly always cool and shady in the summer, with comfortable daytime highs that average in the 70's (~20 degrees Celsius) and cool evenings with average lows in the low 50's (~10 degrees Celsius). There is very little or no rain during the summer months. The low humidity means your towels and swimsuits will air-dry quickly.
Spring and early Fall feature striking forest colors and wetter weather. In late Fall, Winter and early Spring the forest takes on a special, more rugged beauty not available during the warmer months. Then you should expect rapidly changing weather conditions and be prepared for snow!

Stayed here for a snowshoe trek to Dewey Point. Easy access to Badger Pass, which was the staging area. Roomy and relaxing interior, and one of the most well-equipped (and sparking clean) kitchens I've encountered. I cook a lot, so that matters. Several prior guests who signed the guestbook mentioned Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays there, which I can imagine doing another time: kitchen easy to work in if you're inclined to cook holiday dinners, big eat-in kitchen, large deck if the weather is good, and in the trees. We had dusting of snow so very cozy. Cabin clean and well-organized with instructions all around. Owner easy to work with. Only drawback was cabin hard to keep warm if in and out a lot.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.

Really nice, large cabin that had everything you could possibly imagine for a family. If you don't have kids - you wouldn't notice (and would still have a great time here). But for us with 2 kids - it was perfect. Having the crib there, the high chair, the baby backpack was great. What we were most shocked by was how the kitchen had everything you needed for cooking. Location was perfect as well. All in all - a great time. We will be back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children.

Our two night stay at the Big Pine Cottage was absolutely wonderful! It was perfect for two couples, yet easily had room for a larger group. The house was spotlessly clean, well stocked with all necessary consummables, and wonderfully convenient to the south entrance of Yosemite National Park. Located on a quiet dead-end street surrounded by tall pines, you felt like you were living in the middle of a forest, despite the nearby neighboring homes. Although it was too chilly for us to spend much time on the expansive outside deck, on both evenings we enjoyed the wood burning fireplace in the living room while making good use of the iPod dock. Arriving jet-lagged from the East Coast, we also appreciated having the Tenaya Lodge nearby on our first night so that we could get an easy dinner. On the second night, we celebrated birthdays by making the short drive to Oakhurst and treating ourselves to Erna's Elderberry House restaurant (reservations are needed). It's the perfect location for a special meal. But, visiting Yosemite Park for the first time was the real goal of our trip, and the Big Pine Cottage was the perfect base from which to do this. In two days we hiked Yosemite Valley, walked through the redwoods in Mariposa Grove, saw the sun set from Glacier Point, and stopped at countless breathtaking overlooks. Should our travels ever take us back to Yosemite, there's no doubt that we'll hope to stay in the Cottage again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

The Yosemite Forest Lodge is simply all that you could ask for in a homestay. Fully equipped laundry, kitchen and beautiful wooden furniture, what more could you ask for? The distance of the lodge to the entrance to Yosemite was also a major plus. Great bang for your buck, highly recommended as a base to explore the Yosemite Valley!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with young children, age 55+.

We absolutely loved the Big Pine Cabin. A small group of our friends set up a trip to Yosemite and this was the perfect fit for what we needed. The house was cozy and spacious and came complete with everything we could possibly need during our stay. But best of all, it is just a few miles to the entrance of Yosemite, so it is very convenient to getting into the valley. It is also right next door to the Tenaya lodge, which is nice for dinner, etc. You can't beat this option in terms of location, price, and comfort.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

Great vacation rental! Owners extremely easy to deal with and book with. Really impressed with how well stocked the house was. Clean and very spacious and was perfect for our vacation. We really enjoyed staying here. We found the location to be perfect with little ones where we could go back to the house during the mid-day so they could rest. I would definately recommend this house and would stay again when we come back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

This is our second stay at David's Yosemite properties. This past winter, we stayed at this lovely place and had a wonderful time. It is a beautiful home in a lovely neighborhood and is centrally located. The house has all the amenities one would need and plenty of space! It is also very comfortable. We had a great time and look forward to a return visit!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.

This home is very comfortable and bigger than it looks/sounds from the listing, perfect for two families with kids. The location is great, only a few miles from the entrance to Yosemite and 40 minutes to the valley floor. If you're looking to rent in this area, it would be hard to find a better spot. Thanks to the owners for a lovely stay!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, age 55+.
