We have stayed at many private rentals, we even own a couple of rental properties of our own. I wasn't thinking of renting a trailer, but we wanted a home near Big Bend. Boy, oh boy was I pleasantly surprised! Don't pass this one up folks! This gem is 10 minutes from the Park gate, it's clean, it has internet, it's quiet, it's big, and there is a bunch of cool stuff to look at without so much clutter you feel cramped! It may not seem like a big deal to some of you but I loved having really nice toilet paper and tissues, plenty of towels and a spotless refrigerator...a great place is in the details! Will we return? Yup! Would we recommend the place to friends? Yup! I had to gloat a bit when we met a family who stayed in Alpine, nice place no doubt, but 10 minutes from our door to the door of the park?! yippeeeRecommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway.

My family (husband, wife, 3 kids) stayed at Rancho Mula Oso in November 2012. We found the home to be very clean and comfortable. We werein the area to visit Big Bend and we also enjoyed walking around the property as this environment was completely new to us. The home also has numerous books and artifacts from the area that the whole family found interesting. My kids really appreciated the wi-fi so they could keep up with social media when we were at the house as cell coverage in the area is spotty at best. We also had the opportunity to meet the property managers Janet and Daryl who were extremely nice people. They even offered restaurant recommendations and off the beaten path exploration ideas in Big Bend. If you're a family looking for a place to stay while visiting Big Bend don't even think twice about renting this ranch - you won't be disappointed. One tip - if you arrive after dark or leave and return when it is dark make sure you find some landmarks where to turn off the main road. It took us several times to find the road without using the GPS.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers.

My family (2 adults, 2 young children, 1 dog) stayed at the ranch for two nights in mid Feb, and it was great. The house had everything we needed, was extremely convenient to both the national and state parks, and was located in a nice private spot. We enjoyed taking walks around the property and the close proximity to Terlingua when we wanted to eat out. We would definitely stay here again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners.

We just got back from spending 5 days at "The Ranch". My brother and his family met us there. The Erby's made us feel very welcome. We've stayed at a lot of places in Big Bend. We liked this much better as it felt like home. We could do our laundry and cook our own meals. To us, eating out for 5 days straight kind of gets old. The place was very clean. We enjoyed the land surrounding the house and the privacy. We even hiked up the mountain in the back yard for some excitement. During our stay we mostly hiked in Big Bend, and visited the establishments in Study Butte and Terlingua. We went out to dinner one night and went to the Starlight Theater in Terlingua. The food and atmosphere were both very good. All in all we love to visit Big Bend every few years and we're from St. Louis. If visiting again, we would definitely come back to our ranch in Big Bend.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers.

We had four men in our group going for a week of hiking and outdoor fun in Big Bend National Park. The house was easy to get to and very comfortable. We slept in comfortable beds, had a gas grill, fully stocked kitchen, and large flat screen TV with satellite. When you breakdown the cost per person, this place can't be beat! The owners were easy to work with and the place was clean and ready for our arrival at night. I would recommend this home for anyone wanting to visit the area.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

My husband & I stayed here for 3 nights during a tour of the Big Bend area and really enjoyed the house & scenic property. The home had everything we needed for our stay. Our friends ended up not joining us so we didn't use the other bedrooms. But, the master bed was very comfy (I have a bad back and this bed gave me a good night's sleep!). The master bath was very spacious and had a lovely garden tub that I regret not having a chance to use. Everything was clean & orderly. We also enjoyed looking at the collections of beautiful rocks & arrowheads at the house. Being able to do laundry in the middle of our 10 day trip was a big help! If we had stayed at a hotel instead of a house with a washer & dryer, we would've had to pack twice as many clothes! I would recommend this rental property to anyone who wants a comfortable place to stay in Terlingua...it's a short drive to town and in a beautiful, quiet area with lots of "photo opps"! Make sure you get a chance to sit on "the porch" at the Terlingua Trading Company while you're in town. If you can't sit long enough to enjoy a beverage and visit with the locals, you're not really on vacation ;). I'd also recommend at least one day trip to Big Bend National Park while you're in town - just know that if you want to see ALL the good spots/views in the park, you'll need to plan for at least 3 days (more if you want to go on any hikes). While in town, we ate at La Kiva and at Starlight Theatre - both are worth a visit. La Kiva is a very unique spot - you'll want to take pictures. Starlight has great food worth waiting for if it's busy when you go. If you need groceries while you are there, the Cottonwood General Store recently opened up and they have a little bit of everything. We were able to find everything we needed while we were there. My husband nicknamed it the "Swiss Army Store" ;).Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
