I should have written this review right away, after having such an amazing wedding at The House of Wind and Sea. The pictures and even the video do not do this property the justice that it deserves, truly. To be surrounded by nothing but the sounds of the sea and the wind, and to smell the crisp ocean air is literally priceless. You truly feel like you are in your own private paradise. My husband and I were convinced that Big Sur was the right place for us to get married, and this house was the perfect backdrop for everything that we had envisioned. With a view like that, plus all of the wonderful succulents and flowers in the landscaping, we didn't need a single decoration. It was lovely. We were there four nights, arriving as just the two of us for the first night. It was like a dream. To sit under the stars whilst listening to the ocean while you are sitting in those wonderful copper tubs is, to say the least, magical. It was just amazing to have a place where you could stay with your best friends and have a relaxing wedding experience, and not have to contain your celebrations within someone else's timeframe. The House of Wind and Sea allowed us to have a truly communal experience with our closest family and friends. The two pathways that lead to the amphitheater were perfect for our processionals and the stone walls were incredible for our guest seating for the ceremony. We didn't even rent chairs for the ceremony, we just told everyone to bring their favorite blanket or floor cushion and set up camp on the grass and on the walls. It was perfect and so intimate. The firepit was a perfect ending to the day, with everyone cozied up together playing music and singing together. The property is immaculately clean and well-maintained and Jason was wonderful to work with. Very, very helpful and accommodating. I most definitely would recommend this property (and have!) to family or friends, it's the perfect escape to recharge or to have your perfect, intimate Big Sur wedding. SO grateful for the experience. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This property has it all! Each bedroom is very comfortable and has a spectacular ocean view. The bathrooms are insane. The furnishings & artwork throughout the spacious house are gorgeous. The house is fully stocked & we thoroughly enjoyed cooking together in the large gourmet kitchen. Endless ocean views from every room of the house. I could have sat on the deck all day just enjoying the view! Even though the house is amazing, it is the setting that will blow your mind. There was so much to enjoy right there, that we didn't even leave the property all weekend. The walk down to the rocky beach below was beautiful, the large sauna and outdoor shower is great, and we spent our evenings sitting around the great fire pit roasting marshmallows. Best of all, the copper soaking tubs were heavenly! I can't imagine any better place for a secluded getaway! Anyone who stays here will be thrilled!Did you find this review helpful? We stayed with with 4 friends (3 couples all together) for 4 days. We had a wonderful stay... peaceful... great weather (we lucked out all 4 days). Marshmellows by the fire pit....great steps down to the ocean (nice 260+ steps work-out each way up and down)....great views/sunsets...master bath shower will inspire you to remodel when you get home...great kitchen with room for all to help make the meals...or head off to some of the great nearby restaurants with their own awesome views. Just the perfect getaway...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had our wedding at "the House of Wind and Sea" 6/11/11. We arrived a couple of days early, left a couple of days after. My parents, my 2 sons (9, and 15) accompanied us. We all, collectively loved this spiritual property. This home has a spectacular location, just North of Esalen, with phenomenal Pacific views. It has beautifully appointed open interior spaces, wonderful kitchen, bedrooms etc... The properties' landscape design is gorgeous, and very Zen. The walkway to the rocky beach below is not to be missed. To us, the property (interior and exterior) was reminiscent of Post Ranch Inn. We had the most memorable wedding at this heavenly location, and will forever remember it as such. We will definitely return for future visits. Jason, the property manager was tremendously helpful in facilitating our booking/stay, etc... There is no doubt in our minds that anybody who stays here will have a magical time.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

we just stayed at "Wind and Sea" for a weekend. This place is absolutely stunning both architecturally and its setting. The house with its beautiful soaring ceilings and drop dead full length ocean views is unbelievable. All the bedrooms are very comfortable with amazing artwork throughout the property. All the amenities are off the highest level. we enjoyed the sauna in the woods and copper soaking hot tubs with their ocean views. there is a beautiful winding garden that leads down to a secluded rock beach. The only time we left the property was for a couple of runs other than that we just luxuriated in this magical place.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This home and its setting is a piece of heaven. We had our wedding in September and the owner couldn't have been more accommodating. He helped us with names of a local caterer (Cheri Gladstone) and florist (Kate Healey) and with their expertise and our luck we planned our wedding in 2 weeks. As we drove down to the house and saw the actual setting, I couldn't contain my excitement. The owner walked us through the property and gave us instructions on how to operate everything. The view is spectacular. The grounds are magnificent. The amphitheater provided the perfect location as we walked down the paved stairs to join our guests on the edge of the Pacific. The kitchen was fully outfitted and the house aside from being better than these pictures show, was extremely comfortable and generous in size so that our group could be together or have an opportunity for privacy. The only downfall is that I don't live there.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
