My husband and I just returned from our amazing stay at the Windcrest Villa. We stayed for about 8 nights in the Garden suite. The apartment is lovely, clean and comfy. We enjoyed spending mornings drinking coffee on the terrace and evenings grilling and hanging on the terrace as well. The view is beautiful. The location is perfect, so close to town and near the grocery markets, as well as all the best beaches. Vicky and Deborah, were both extremely organized and helpful in making our stay perfect as possible. I highly recommend the Windcrest for your stay in Cruz Bay, St. John!

There were many pros and a very short list of cons, so the pros def outweigh the cons: Pros (many): The owner and the property manager were very helpful, nice and extremely responsive to e-mails. The place was really cute and clean, and the view from the balcony was amazing. The wireless was pretty decent, and we had no problems connecting most of the time. The parking was easy, and it wasn't too difficult to get up to the place even though there were hills. I still recommend getting a Jeep though because it made getting around town and the beaches much easier. The AC was a plus, but we didn't need to use it very much because there were so many fans in the place and it wasn't very hot when we went there. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the cooking tools that we could need and the place had tons of towels and beach-related things (e.g., chair and cooler) for us to use. There was a community pool, but we ended up not using it because there were beaches everywhere! It was very close to town (about a 7 minute drive) and conveniently located near pretty nice beaches. I don't think you can get here without a car though. Cons (only two): There were millipedes EVERYWHERE! On the first day, they were just in the front of the house, but then somehow (despite our effort to close the doors and windows), they got into the house and DIED EVERYWHERE, in the bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom. We found a live one in our bed one night and my fiance woke up to one crawling on his back! I wasn't able to sleep at night because of the fear that I'd wake up with them on me. They are harmless though, and as far as I know, do not bite or sting, but still, they were gross. Also, our bedding was stained and kind of gross - they need to replace the linens.

Perfect Getaway

My wife and I spent four nights in the Garden Suite of the Windcrest Villa in late July 2011. It was the perfect getaway for us. The Garden Suite is ideal for a couple looking for a place to call home while visiting St. John. We started our day with breakfast on the deck almost every morning looking over Great Cruz Bay (The Westin). We rented a Jeep (which is highly recommended when staying here) and explored all the islands beaches and trails. The unit's location is convenient to both the north shore beaches as well as the south shore beaches in the Virgin Islands National Park. After exploring the island for the day, we returned to the unit in the afternoon to get ready for a night in Cruz Bay. We started each evening with a drink on the deck. We decided to eat dinner in Cruz Bay each night. A five minute drive to Cruz Bay made it simple to get back and forth from town. I'd recommend the Garden Suite for anyone hoping to experience and discover St. John. It's well located, very clean and has the amenities (including a shared pool overlooking Great Cruz Bay) you'll need to enjoy and explore the island. Plus Vicky and her staff did an excellent job ensuring our stay was perfect. When you go, be sure to read through the book St. John Off the Beaten Path provided by in the Garden Suite. It's a tremendous resource for exploring the island's great trails, lesser known (but just as amazing) beaches, and best snorkeling spots. Enjoy!

Very Private with a GREAT location

We recently stayed in the "Garden Suite" and it was absolutely fabulous. Even though this is a duplex, it is very private. There were people in the other suite while we were there, but we never saw or heard them. The pool is great-again, even though it is shared with others, we never saw anyone else in it-just us! The proximity to Cruz Bay and the beaches was perfect-close enough to take advantage of the fun, but it was just far enough away to be very quiet-not to mention the hillside location gives you a view to die for. The suite is a studio, but with the smart layout feels much bigger than the pictures show. The suite was equipped with everything two people could need for a great vacation. Did I mention the view???!!!

We stayed for the first time in March of 04 and can't wait to go back, res. already made for Feb 05. We wanted for nothing,and those nights!!!Oh those Caribbean nights, with breezes coming in over our loft bedroom, waking to a view that took our breath away. Went to lots of beaches, great snorkling-saw a sea turtle! Perfect.

(You should rent a car, however, if staying here). The view is nice, and we enjoyed having breakfast and some dinners on the covered porch. The kitchen is small but very nice. This unit is perfectly designed for a couple. It feels very private. My only complaint is that I got many bug bites at night on my arms and face, and I guess there were no-see-ums that managed to come through the screens. Be sure to take bug repellent. I don't fault the owner on this, as all of the windows have good screens and the unit is very well maintained. I think it is just St. John, and the bugs really love me. My husband did not get bitten to the same extent, so it's probably true that the sweeter your blood, the more they love you! :) We looked at the pool (be aware-- it is not right at the property-- it is across the street) and it had a lot of leaves in it. It's a nice option to have, but with all of the fine beaches on the island we didn't feel the need to use it. You will love the beaches on this island. The snorkeling was the best we've ever experienced. Vickie is a very responsible owner and we had no problems while there. We would recommend this place to one and all. Enjoy!

Too bad about the no-see-ums but you are right about having sweet blood. If you know you have it, bring the bug spray. The view from Windcrest and the amazing beaches of St. John are definitely reasons to return. The pool is a great option and the 2 minute walk across the road used only by fellow owners of the 10 units in the complex is less than in most resorts. No A/C needed in the lost suite - the breezes day and night were heavenly! The resident cat was a nice touch of home. It was such a wonderful place to grill out and eat dinner - you can't beat the view! It's definately a perfectly private place for a couple!

We stayed here for our honeymoon in December 2004, and it was wonderful! Vicky is a terrific host and was very helpful in advice on what to do on St. John. Windcrest itself leaves nothing to be desired. It is very comfortable and serves as a great home away from home. The villa was extremely private and relaxing while only being a convenient 5 minutes from town - which is important in St. John. Staying at Windcrest with a rented Jeep is the ONLY way to enjoy St. John in our opinion! Thank you for a great place to stay on our honeymoon!

Thank you for making our honeymoon unforgettable. The garden suite is the perfect love nest. From the flower draped entrance, to the awesome mahogany bed to the breeze caressed deck- it has it all. What a spot to explore paradise from.

This property is magnificent. Extremely well maintained and appointed. The views to the south are truly spectacular. Windcrest could not be a more wonderful place to come home to after a long day of snorkeling, hiking or just poking around. My absolute favorite part is waking up lazily in the morning, rolling over and looking out the window overlooking Great Cruz Bay.

If only Mitch knew the whole time we were here I carried on a torrid love affair with St John. Who knew heaven could be such devilish, delightful fun. Windcrest is a dream of paradise made of sea air, bougainvilla and bananaquits. Delicious!!! What a tropical masterpiece.
