We had a fantastic time here. Definitely had everything we needed to make our vacation a fabulous one. Very clean cabin that I would recommend to my friends & family.

We have had a wonderful visit! We really enjoyed how 'off the grid' this spot is - not your typical 'just done for tourists spot!' The farmers Market at Naalehu (Weds & Sat) was great to pick up local coffee, baked goods, gifts & fruits. There's alot to do! The volcano was beautiful with lots of birdwatching nearby! Today we are off to the green sand & black sand beaches. Thanks for a great space in a great location!

Nice relaxing spot for the south end of the island. Cool, clean & comfortable. Took in Makuna Bay-quite the road in. Also Black Sand Beach , Green Sand Beach, South Point & Volcano Park. Very enjoyable.

5 guys fighting over 1 bed, 1 bath - but the view was to die for! It was a great home away from home! Just the right size & close to great beaches and Valcano Nat. Park.

This cabin is perfect for someone who wants to take a breather from the world, without leaving the world behind. You're far enough up the mountain to feel secluded, and yet still close enough to 'civilization' to avoid even remotely feeling hassled to gather supplies or take a day trip. The mornings I had there (I stayed a full week) the sun was shining, birds were chirping, and I sat in the sounds of nature while I drank my coffee and read my book on the front porch. The nights do get a bit colder, but I felt the owners provided ample bedding to keep me warm, and was completely satisfied with my stay. This cabin is cute, Cute, CUTE! It is what it says it is, a cabin, but in my experience of mountain cabins, this has been one of the most charming. It's clean, maintained, and classy, with that air of Hawaiian comfort. This isn't a place for someone who expects a four star hotel, but it IS for someone who wants a secluded getaway in a cozy mountain cottage of sorts for some time alone, or to spend some time with someone they care about. It was perfect for me, and the location truly is near some very wonderful beaches, one of my favorite being the black sand beach! It's a short hike in, with some incredible plants, animals, culture and scenery. I will definitely come back! Thank you!

The area where this cabin is located is mosquito infested. The cabin has no screens. The master bedroom window, which is wooden, has huge gaps in it running down the middle, allowing easy access for mosquitoes. The front door (also wooden) is also without screens with huge gaps running the length of the door and the bottom. We have never seen so many mosquitoes in one area, and had we stayed we would surely been covered with bites by morning. We received many bites just walking to and from the car to view the cabin. We also heard from local people we met in the area that if cabins in Ocean View are not well sealed, rats often gain entry. We didn't stay to find out. The cabin is in a completely remote area and is not convenient to anything. The driveway is a steep down, dirt and rock road, sure to be a mess on heavy rainy days. The cabin is cute but barely has any furniture. The owner provides two bath towels only, so if something happens to one towel, you are out of luck. Whereas most rental provide a small supply of toilet paper and paper towels to get you started, the owner provides one of each. The owner write in his description that it is cool at night. But it is actually cold and requires long sleeves and pants for comfort. We complained to the owner about the lack of screens and thus our reason for not staying in his cabin. Instead of being understanding and refunding our deposit, he sent us a rude email indicating that we had too high expectations for such a low rent cabin. The deposit was a cleaning fee, and we did not stay there, so the cabin does not need to be cleaned again. We have stayed all over the world with VRBO and always in a low to moderate price range. We have never come across such poor accommodations, or such rudeness by the owners. The owner is new to renting, and I guess doesn't understand that providing minimum amenities is at the very least what one can do to ensure a following....and kindness and understanding certainly could help as well. Hawaiian hospitality was lovely during our 9 day stay on the Big Island and the other rentals we secured showed us that VRBO is usually a great way to travel. The owner of this unit does not live here, and perhaps does not yet understand Hawaiian spirit.

Owner response: It is no secret that this is a remote and rustic cabin. We are sorry that Janet was unhappy. However, she suggested that we allow her to hold the cabin with a non-refundable deposit, in case she decided not to stay. We agreed. So she was not sure our humble home would be to her liking from the very beginning. It isn't for everyone. There are bugs and critters and wild hogs and beautiful birds all over the island. We even had a Jackson Camelian staying in the house with us the last time we were there. We enjoyed his company. We love our cabin, and many others have loved it too. This is the only complaint we have received. The last renter stated he loved it so much he seriously considered making an offer to purchase it. That is the highest compliment we could hope to receive. There are plenty of supplies and linens for the asking. Just contact our property manager, Jackie. Though we don't live on the Island year round, this cabin is where we stay as much as possible. We understand Hawaiian spirit. We have Hawaiian family and friends on the Island. This humble little cabin and the Big Island is our home too. Aloha

Awesome view, cool nights and warm days, the sunrise is something I will always remember. Brillant stars and Venus in the East with clarity I have never seen before. You can feel the majesty of God's work here. The view goes on for miles and way far in the distance you can see the waves breaking on the beach. As occasional rain showers come in you can watch them in the distance and look down into the valley as they pass below I could spend hours watching the yellow Amakihi birds sipping nectar from the red blossoms on the Ohia trees that surround the house. Little if any traffic or man made noise in the background. Yes, this is not the beach but is peace and tranquility in the mountains. I am so impressed that I bought a house here, this part of the world is the unspoiled way the world was years ago. If the house deal that I made would have fallen thru I would have approached the owner of this house and made an offer to buy. The appliances and furnishings are more than acceptable and Jackie or the owner will help you with any support. PS Mosquitos and rats? I didn't see any and there fore must be blind. ES

Comfy cabin, perfect for two, away from the hustle and bustle which is what we were looking for. Great base for heading out on adventures such as Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Southpoint or a couple of world class snorkeling spots like Pu'uhonua O Honaunau which are all within reasonable driving distance.

The stay was warm and friendly. It's not a bad drive to Kona or Hilo, the volcanoes are close. The terrain is raw and beautiful. Totally different than what you would expect. The house is very peaceful and clean. Very cute, simple and in excellent condition - remote, but still close. No tourists here. Perfect size for two people. Topography varies from moonscape to jungle. It's easy to go any place on the island. Bring good hiking shoes. Don't miss the beach in Milolii. Definitely go to Desert Rose for the best food. Check out the Hove subdivision community center. Lots of friendly, informative people there. The property manager, Jackie, is wonderful, helpful, informative and right there when you need her.
