Our mountain cabin is the perfect getaway for couples and families. Lovingly cared for and tastefully decorated, our 3-level, 1400 sq. foot cabin has an open floor plan with floor-to-ceiling windows on the main floor and spectacular views of Colorado's highest peaks and beautiful Twin Lakes (the largest glacial lakes in the State). Views are as good from INSIDE the cabin as they are OUTSIDE the cabin!
The main floor has all hardwood floors with an open, fully furnished kitchen and new appliances; large dining table for cozy family meals with a view; living area with a comfy couch, TV, gas stove, and two leather recliners; French doors opening out to the deck; a newly remodeled, spacious bath with tub, shower, and plenty of storage; and a mud room for storing skis, backpacks, and outdoor equipment.
The lower level has stone tile floors with two large bedrooms--one with a queen bed and one with a full bed; a quiet sitting area with TV, French doors opening out to an outdoor patio, and a half-bath/laundry room with washer and dryer. The upper level has hardwood floors, a master bedroom with a queen bed that has views of Mount Elbert (from bed!)and a separate sitting area. The sitting area can be closed off and has a futon for extra sleeping space.
Our cabin is on a half-acre lot with trees, a small fenced yard off of the downstairs patio (perfect for small to medium dogs, with prior approval), and an outdoor campfire circle. Aspen is a scenic 44-mile drive over 12,095-foot Independence Pass, Colorado’s highest paved pass, where you'll find fabulous summer activities, like the Aspen Summer Music Festival and great bars and restaurants. Historic Leadville is 22 miles away with affordable dining, shops, and museums. The tiny town of Twin Lakes, 2 miles west, has a restaurant and cafe. Fabulous hiking, mountain climbing, mountain biking, and cross country skiing are available in all directions. Boating activities on Twin Lakes and fly-fishing on the Arkansas River are only minutes away.

I, literally, search hundreds of listings before picking “THE ONE” that I consider the best for my family and our vacation needs, and this one did not disappoint. To start with, it was centrally located for everything we wanted to do…whitewater rafting, horseback riding, gold mine tours, ride a steam train, Coors Brewery tour, hike mountains, visit ghost towns, pan for gold, and just explore - places like Leadville and Georgetown. It was the best stocked…the owners made us cookies and left us a bottle of wine. The kitchen was top of the line (my wife said I had to buy her the same stove) and had all the spices and condiments, coffee, cream, sugar, foil, paper towels, olive oil, butter, etc. you could need (which saves you a lot). All you supply is the food. Of course, we ate out…Aspen, Buena Vista, Idaho Springs. It was clean and comfortable…took no time to feel at home. The beds and linens, the big bathroom and fluffy towels, the deck and THE VIEWS – their pictures don’t do it justice. AND, it was the BEST PRICE. All I can say is “AWESOME”……and “We’ll be back”!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful vacation home. Stunning views of Twin Lakes and Mount Elbert from the deck. Easy drive to multiple hiking and biking trails. Close to charming Leadville. Perfect location for anyone who loves the mountains. The property is clean with lots of amenities. Stocked kitchen, fluffy towels, even yummy chocolate chip cookiers when you arrive! We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing moutain location. Lots of room for our family of three - but the home would comfortably fit up to eight.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The Treehouse Cabin fits our needs perfectly since it was close to the South Trailhead/East Ridge trail for Mt. Elbert a 14er (14,433' peak). The open floor plan of the main level provided a great social space for us and another couple. The kitchen was compact and efficient and connected to the living space. We had the upper level master bedroom which has an adjacent sitting or sleeping area with a futon. Our friends took one of the two lower level bedrooms. We were all comfortable. The main level's sweeping windows provided great views and light. But our favorite spot was the wraparound deck looking toward either the lakes or Mt. Elbert. A great place to relax, have a cup of coffee or a drink and check out the scenery. The falls colors were spectacular. We enjoyed fresh baked cookies the owners provided upon our arrival. A nice treat! The pantry was stocked with ingredients for a terrific breakfast, namely, Kodiak cakes pancake mix. Another great treat! The cabin was about 10 minutes from the lower parking lot for the Mt. Elbert trail and an additional 20 minutes up a 4WD road to the upper parking lot at the trailhead. The hike up Mt. Elbert was a great experience climbing up 4,100' to the 14,433' summit; an 8.4 miles roundtrip. Check out the website: www.14ers.com. You'll find trail information and trip reports. Check out my report under author: "downhillbri". We would recommend the house to anyone staying in the Twin Lakes area. It will easily accomodate many people in comfort and the price was right. Our hats off to the owners, John & Cindi Stetson!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: We are empty-nesters with two grown children. We have finally realized our dream of owning the perfect cabin nestled in Colorado's most beautiful high-country. Our dog, Sienna, is our constant hiking and cross-country skiing companion. We love the Twin Lakes area year round - spectacular above-timberline hiking in the summer and champagne powder for skiing in the winter! Lake County has more cross-country ski trails than any other county in Colorado, and perfect conditions all winter! We can't stay inside, because there is too much to do outdoors!
Why the Owner Chose Twin Lakes:
We have stayed in vacation rentals all over Colorado and picked Twin Lakes because of its spectacular views and the availability of every type of winter and summer sport. We take advantage of music, art, and fine dining in Vail and Aspen and enjoy the historic charm of Leadville. Our cabin is a two-hour drive from Denver, which allows us to use our cabin frequently on weekends. The cabin feels cozy for just the two of us, but has ample space for our family gatherings. We aren't in a city--we are in the MOUNTAINS, and our cabin feels like a real getaway, far from the crowds, traffic, and chain stores/restaurants that have recently infiltrated other mountain communities.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
We enjoy the best hiking and cross-country skiing Colorado has to offer! We are 45 minutes from Copper Mountain, where we enjoy down-hill skiing in the winter without any traffic. We visit Mount Princeton Hot Springs with its outdoor pools and spa services year-round. We visit Aspen for high-end shopping, fabulous music, gourmet restaurants, and people-watching.
