I love this house so much I am not sure I want others to know how great it is just in case we can't book it for 2013. The house has been perfectly restored is great for a family gathering. The kitchen is incredibly well stocked and has everything you need to make large family meals and not have to do dishes every five minutes. The rooms are bright and clean. The bedrooms are large and airy. There are books and toys for young children which is nice for those of us who feel like we pack everything but the kitchen sink. The house has a very effective AC system and ceiling fans keep it delightfully cool. The house has a great outdoor shower which I consider a luxury and helps limit tracking sand through the house. There is a huge front porch which we love sitting on and watching the kids ride their bikes up and down the sidewalk. The location of the house is great. The town library is just a few houses down and has a ready supply of used magazines that you can take to the beach for perusing. The library also has regular book sales which keeps the kids occupied and helps with summer reads. Wine shops, cafes, and a hardware store is just a few blocks away. Capes Charles is like Mayberry only diverse and more delightful and sans Andi Griffith. The house is a couple of blocks from the beach but was easily walked by our 5 and 3 year olds. The whining began at just about the library and then you know you are home free. The house management is readily available and cheerful about bringing you a spare set of keys if you lock yourself out. We have stayed at this house repeatedly and when we have been able to book we have tried others only to not feel as comfortable.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

My family of 7 (including Grandma and nanny) stayed here for one week. Highlights include the beautifully decorated indoors, the Cape Charles Library gem two doors down, and the wonderfully serene beach a short walk or fun golf cart ride away. Would suggest a clothesline outside to hang damp towels and bathingsuits in between beach shifts. All in all, a wonderful place to spend a week chillaxing!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks so much for staying, for your nice comments, and your good suggestion! Clothesline has now been replaced, so there's plenty of space to hang wet suits and towels. Especially convenient because it's right by the outdoor shower -- convenient coming and going!

We had a great time at the waterhouse in Cape Charles, VA. The town is a sweet and lazy beach town, the perfect place to hang out with friends, catch up on rest and relax in the sun. The Waterhouse was beautiful! Clean and serene, stocked with anything you need for a relaxing trip. It is beautifully decorated and some comfortable inside with big couches, lots of porch chairs, a large dining area and lots of comfortable beds. We felt like we are staying with very generous friends. The location of the house was perfect, a couple blocks to the beach, near the main commercial part of town but it was quiet and secluded. I would definitely recommend the Waterhouse to anyone interested in staying in Cape Charles.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed here with our 3 children. It was a lovely home and we had a wonderful time. We have been coming to Cape Charles for the past 7 years. We have stayed in many homes and this is definitely our favorite. If it is available for vacation next year during our time off we will rebook.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Owner info

About the owner: We're an extended family (sister, brother, mother and families, 10 of us in all, thus the number of beds) from Virginia who visited Cape Charles and fell in love, totally in love. We've carefully renovated the Waterhouse and love both visiting and hearing about how much folks love Cape Charles/our place when they come check it out. Two of our friends/family who've come to visit over the years have loved the place so much, they bought their own houses.
Why the Owner Chose Cape Charles:
Wow, hard to count the ways. But the big ones... the town it sits in, the beaches and natural setting overall down here at the end of the ESVA, our house's great bones and classic American Four Square look, our great block which is really close to the beach but also close to great non-beach activities (like the tennis courts, playground, town park, fitness center and public library).
