My husband and I visited Bar Harbor to celebrate our anniversary. The home was beautiful, more than we needed, but had all of the things we needed, and afforded us privacy and convenience. The home is close to everything, It was clean, quiet, comfortable and reasonably priced. Wad, the property manger, was attentive and helpful to accomodate us and make sure we had everything we needed. The are is beautiful- from star gazing from the deck, to hiking and driving Acadia National Park, whale watching, the charming town of Bar Harbor- great restaurants, food and beer! WE had a great time and are so happy we chose Great Haven Properties for our stay.

My husband and I visited to celebrate our anniversary- the home was more than we actually needed, room wise, but it is a beautiful home, clean and roomy and all the amenities we needed and more. Wade was so helpful in offering tips on where to visit, and making sure our stay was above satisfactory, We were very close to everything. And the scenery - viewing the stars from the deck to the water, and the Acadia National Park- breathtaking! Would highly recommend this place for a visit and stay. We had a great time!

I have a young family (two boys 2 and 3 1/2) - we had talked about Disney but right before hitting the button on purchasing airline tickets we realized it was probably too soon and that maybe we should think about something more local. We hadn't been to Bar Harbor. . .but could that make us happy after cancelling the Disney trip? After much online searching, I found Great Haven townhouses. . .the layout and heated pool was what drew me in. After confirming dates with my husband, my parents (who were traveling with us), and Wade, we booked. And then I did what I usually do. . .began to fret. . .would there be enough to do? Would we all be comfortable? Would the kids sleep in a strange place. All that worry for nothing. . . the place was amazing. My husband and father discussed freqently how much the loved the place. So close to everything, so comfortable, and we weren't on top of one another. It was one of the best vacations I have ever taken. The boys had amazing experiences. Who needs disney when you have Acadia. . .oceans, rocks to climb, tidal pools to explore. It was the perfect blend of the great outdoors (traveling around Bar Harbor and Acadia) and the comforts of home a great Haven. . .TV, internet, amenities, and the heated pool was a daily activity. The description of the location/faciltiy was right on. It is so close to Acadia - that was so great. And downtown was just a short drive away - but also right on the free bus line. It was certainly well cleaned/maintained. My comments/feedback about what could be improved included some minor things: safety plugs for outlets being available, tea kettle, and some newer cookware were all given to Wade (Property manager who was extremely responsive to questions/needs while we were there). He welcomed and appreciated the feedback and indicated he would be implementing the suggestions. All in all it was very comfortable and perfect for our family.

Owner response: Dear Anne and Family, I'm so very happy that you all enjoyed your visit to Great Haven, Acadia National Park and Downeast Maine. Your very kind comments are appreciated more than you know. I've made my shopping list of items we had discussed on the phone to make the unit safer (electrical outlet plugs), convenient (tea kettle), and valuable (new cook ware for the upcoming season). Though I absolutely LOVE DISNEY, I have to say, this part of Maine has a certain draw that is unlike anything else. We look forward to being able to assist you with future visits. Best regards in hospitality, Wade

I'll start by saying that my 11 year old daughter had such a good time that she walked through the house and said good bye to each room before we left and my 14 year old son who didn't want to come because he thought he would be bored asked if we could stay a couple of extra days. As this was my family's first trip to Acadia/ Bar Harbor my wife and I researched places for weeks on end. Great Haven was a great find and well worth the search. We are already planing on coming back next summer. The unit itself was clean, comfortable and well stocked with everything you need for the week. The location is perfect for both Acadia (2 minutes away) and Bar Harbor (5-7 minutes away)and is a 30 second walk to the free bus service that goes everywhere you want or need to go. The owners had a binder with tons of extremely helpful information on where to eat and what to do. Service was also top notch across the board. On our last day as we were packing up Wade the manager approached me by name and asked how everything was and if we enjoyed ourselves. Two days after we returned, Wade called me to tell me that I left my camera battery charger and that he was going to send it to me. First of all, I didn't even know it was missing, second I have never had a manager ever call ME to let me know I forgot something and then offer to pay to send it back to me! Everything was beyond our expectations. Thanks guys, you do great work!

Owner response: Hi Melissa and Josh, Thanks very much for the lovely comments. We're so happy you enjoyed your visit to Great Haven and look forward to assisting you again in the future. The camera battery/charger and sun glasses will be in the mail right after the Labor Day holiday. Hope you have a wonderful remainder of the summer and enjoy the fall. We and another couple just stayed in a TWO bedroom unit at Great Haven, called 'Bubble Pond'. It looks very much like the one pictured. The unit was huge, spotless, well-equipped and very comfortable. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat. One could actually walk to the Acadia National Park visitors center. The Chart House restaurant right across the street was a great place for dinner. We should have had lunch there, because the views are spectacular. Frenchman's Bay was right out the living room window, and we walked out one morning to see the sun rise over the water. The property manager, Wade Hill, was a pleasure to work with. We can't say enough about our experience at Great Haven.

After reading all the excellent reviews and weeks of research on places to stay for our family vacation, we chose Great Haven. I was a little concerned that none of the reviews were current, we wouldn't be staying in the unit pictured on this site and that my request to see photos of our unit went unanswered. However, Donna convinced me that all the units were very nice so I booked. A couple of weeks before our vacation Donna sent a packet of very useful information about the area - nice! The unit was not as it appeared on this site. The main floor furniture was old, uncomfortable and looked like it was picked up at a garage sale. Furnishings were sparse, nothing on the walls, and the huge but very old TV only had one channel. Blinds on the patio door didn't work. The bedrooms were better and looked like they had been updated, but the carpet was dirty. The kitchen was nice but the pots and pans were in bad shape. The bathrooms were adequate, decent towels. The furniture on the outdoor balcony was nice. We arrived very late at night the first day and it wasn't until the next morning walking around the unit that we realized the floors were absolutely filthy! My son's white socks were black and when I ran a paper towel over the wood floors in several areas it turned up black! This was about the same time we realized the TV only had one channel and there was no laundry detergent, dishwasher soap or paper towels (we had already picked up our supplies and didn't buy these because they were supposed to be provided). I called Donna and left a message. She didn't respond until a second angry message over a day later. She apologized and said that realtors had been in the unit after it was cleaned and made it dirty. I doubt that a few realtors walking around made the floors that dirty. It looked like it hadn't been washed all summer. She arranged to have the missing items brought over and the floors washed that evening. The cleaners arrived during our dinner and we had to leave. The floors were better after a mopping, but what they needed to do is get down on their hands and knees and do a thorough job. Donna didn't respond to my request to have the TV fixed, but after an hour of looking through manuals my son was able to fix it. The pros: Great location (although our unit was next to a commercial laundry business), very spacious, nice pool, on bus line, wi-fi. Bottom line - unit 7 shouldn't be rented without a thorough cleaning and updating.

This townhouse was represented correctly in the pictures and in the write up. It is a very nice property and it was clean. The location is only a couple miles outside of downtown Bar Harbor and is right on the Explorer shuttle route. Actually it was perfect for us-four adults that enjoyed walking to the general store and the post office a half block away. It deserves the highest rating.

Owner response: Thank you Kathy for your review! We are only a couple of miles from downtown Bar Harbor, and less than a half a mile to the main entrance to Acadia National Park. We think our location deserves the highest rating as well! Please consider us again if you need another Bar Harbor Vacation!

So many sites; so many listings. Which one should you pick? Let us offer the following to help you out! Strategically situated at the intersection of Rt. 3 (Eden Street) and Crooked Road in the Bar Harbor village of Hulls Cove, this 3 story townhome was everything we could have asked for. Conveniently located just a very short drive from the entrance to Acadia National Park and downtown Bar Harbor. Crooked Road also provides a convenient route to the eastern side of Mount Desert Island (MDI) to reach other breathtaking locations e.g., Bass Harbor and Southwest Harbor. Our unit overlooked the pool and had a view of Frenchman Bay. A quick walk to the corner takes you to a pizza/sub sandwich shop and a bit further to a gas station/general store. Across Rt. 3 is The Chart Room, a great little restaurant serving lunch and dinner (usually a packed house for dinner so make a reservation). We had all the conveniences, in enough space for a baseball team, and in a very comfortable setting. Donna Mitchell provides pre-arrival orientation with a packet of information. Upon arrival, you are greeted with a notebook of very useful and detailed information about the area. Bar Harbor is great to visit, but remember there is much to see and do on MDI. Be sure and attend the gathering of die-hards for the sunrise on Cadillac Mountain; stop by the Jordan Pond House for popovers and jam; and, when the tide is right, walk across the "bar" over to Bar Island. Donna will take care of all the details prior to and, if needed after you arrive. All you have to do is show up and be prepared to have a good time. Needless to say, we'll be back.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Owner response: John & Louise-I think I need to hire you to write descriptions for us! We are located right next to the main entrance to Acadia National Park (see our map) In addition, the Crooked Road is thought of as the Local's Road to the middle of the island and a "shortcut" to the head of the island. Hulls Cove is a quiet village just outside of Bar Harbor, offering relaxation but yet close enough to get where you want to be quite quickly. I would love to help you plan your next vacation to Bar Harbor!

We recently stayed at Great Haven and it was just that...great! Of course Maine was great, the Acadia coastline was beautiful and the lobster delicious but our home away from home made it all just perfect. We had 5 people and it was so spacious and clean. It was a great location and the pool really was great after a long day of hiking, biking, or kayaking :) The high speed internet connection was a nice touch too. We really loved our family vacation at Great Haven and imagine that you will too.

Every summer we vacation in Bar Harbor. All the accomodations we have stayed at in the past always showed great on the website then when we got there had some isue-(Bad smells, Bad mattress, Towells thread bare and tiny, Surroundings and view of vacation rental not quite as described-) until GREAT Haven! What a great place to spend a week or two. Comfy beds, nice linens, unit larger than pictures looked, well maintained and CLEAN. Everything you could think of needing was there in the condo. The location of the condo is PERFECT, you are minutes to the park, minutes to downtown and right at the Island explorer-(which is GREAT if you have teens). The pool was great and was never crowded. Across the street in the morning is beautiful- you can wach the sun come up over the ocean. A simple walk across the street beside of the Chart Room affords you a nice little park bench to watch nature. For ten years we have been renting in Bar Harbor and have never stayed anywhere twice until now. Jaye and Bob please count us IN for next year! We like luxury and felt right at home at Great Haven. Thank you again for the wonderful accomodations!

First let me say that close communiction with the owners was the first plus for renting Great Haven. Jaye and Bob were always available to answer all my questions via email, (and boy did I have lots of questions). The condo was very, very clean and up to date. With beautiful hard wood floors and the bed rooms carpeted looking like new. We were a family of 5 and there was more then enough room. With 2 1/2 bath rooms this was never a problem with two teenage girls. We had a few rainy days and enjoyed playng cards, games, puzzles and reading books that were supplied in the house. There also was a heated pool for nice days that was shared with some very nice neighbors we got to know. And having the ocean just across the street to walk on when it was low tide was fun. We loved the free Island Explorer bus as it picks you up next to the rental all day and brings you back at night. We never had to drive any where (pick up the shuttle schedule so you know where to go and when), it is also posted at the Pizza place where you get the bus. There are many options of dinnig out close to the rental if you didn't want to cook in. The Log Cabin next to the mini golf was one of our favorites with the whole family. The Fish House Grill for that Lobster on the Pier and The Thirsty Whale for a place to just have a beer and a sandwich. Or maybe leave the teenagers with a Pizza from Peppers and have dinner right across the street at The Chart Room as my husband and I did. Another thing we loved about this rental is that Acadia National Park was walking distance to miles and miles of trails , mountain hikes and a sand beach not to be missed. There is also a gas station / store very close to the rental to pick up a paper or a stick of butter. One thing I highley recommend is to take the 2 1/2 hour Oli's Trolli tour the very first or second day to see what is around if this is your first time to the Bar Harbor area. And be sure to pick up the Acadia Weekly, dated for the week you are there. This gives you the times of high and low tide to explore across the street or to go to town and walk across to Bar Island at low tide. It also has a schedule for each day for Acadia. So I can only say this was the most perfect vacation rental we have ever experienced with so much to do and so close to it all. I highley recommend you look no further and stay at Great Haven for your next Vacation to Bar Harbor. We are sure to return again !

The Great haven condo is beautifully maintained; large enough for my crew of 7. It is in an excellent location with the national park just down the road. A lovely pebble beach(that my children enjoyed exploring and getting wet on), a great restaurant, a general store, gas station, pizza/sub shop, post office just feet away. Oh, I don't want to forget the center of town just 3 miles away(with the best ice cream at Jordan's and Jack Daniel's ice cream at Mt. Desert Ice Cream shop). And Geddy's restaurant-great for kids.

We traveled to the Bar Harbor area with our kids, 11 and 13, and grandparents. Having the space to spread out, eat breakfasts and an occasional meal in made the entire trip carefree and relaxing. The free bus also let everyone "do their own thing." Whale watching, hiking, Ranger Programs, the pool, wonderful restaurants, L.L. Bean, the Loop Road, the Lumberjack Show, the Oceanarium and Lobster Hatchery, lots of lobster...We'll be back!

Owner response: As our MI family says, there's so much to do in our area in addition to Acadia National Park that it's wise to choose a "home base" that is both centrally located and easily accessable to transportation options. Great Haven has a stop for the Island Explorer free shuttle service right out front---how easy is that? You'll really appreciate the neighborhood, too, with a pizza shop, waterfront restaurant, small general store with gas, and post office all within a two minute walk from your spacious townhome.

My family of six plus a one and half year old grandson had a great time staying at this property. It was clean, comfortable, every modern amenities, and all the things you'll ever need on a vacation home. It was a home away from home, but much better because it is right next door to the beautiful Acadia National Park. I would stay all summer here if I could.

Owner response: As our guests from Troy point out, Great Haven is very comfortable for multi-generational familes. Pebble beach (kids), heated pool (parents), room to spread out without crowding each other (grands)...or mix and match! And there is definitely something to be said for a place with new appliances that you know how to operate from the start, a full laundry near the bedrooms so no lugging baskets up and down stairs, and that extra half bathroom by the kitchen where you can easily clean up little sandy feet when you get home from a happy/busy day at Acadia National Park. All this and Grampa still can find a comfy chair with his name on it. That's Great Haven!

For our first visit to Mount Desert Island we were a bit confused about where to stay. We are so glad we chose Hulls Cove and the Great Haven Town Homes. Hulls Cove is in the perfect location of going into Acadia to hike and for visiting Bar Harbor to shop, eat and sightsee. We have 5 children (ages 15-5) and the seven of us were very comfortable in Great Haven. The pool is a big plus (our weather didn't agree but we did swim once!). The place was clean and well stocked for our stay. There is a pizza shop just across the parking lot for an inexpensive dinner "at home" without cooking. The rental process was a breeze and the customer service deserves more than the 5 stars. Information was delivered to us to help us plan our trip. The owners even quickly returned a few items that I left in one of the drawers! I'd stay in Great Haven again in a heartbeat!

Owner response: I've said it before and I'll say it again: Great Haven attracts the nicest guests in the world! We know what it's like to plan a vacation in "uncharted waters", so we go the extra to make you feel confident and comfortable with your choice. In the end, the one thing our guests always tell us is that Great Haven totally exceeded their expectations. And you can't ask for better than that, can you?

Recently, my friends anb I just returned from a vacation in Bar Harbor. We all enjoy riding bicycles and were anxious to ride the Carriage Trails in the Acadia Park. Our selection of Great Haven as a rental was a wonderful choice. Not only was the location to the Park very convenient, but also the Bonds were fabulous to work with. The Bonds provided loads of information about surrounding attractions and website links of interest and were always gracious when replying to our inquiries. The rental house met all of our needs from DVD's to laundry with a lobster dinner delivered to our "home"! I highly recommend them and hope to return to Bar Harbor and Great Haven again someday in the future. Virginia Loflin Tennessee

Long Pond looked great from the photos, but we were pleasantly surprised that those photos didn't do the house justice. It was as if we had a home, not just a rental, while we were up in Bar Harbor. The amount of space we had for the price was amazing. It couldn't have been any closer to Acadia and gettting into town was a piece of cake. Of course our kids thought it was the coolest thing to watch the changing of the tide just across the street. I highly recommend Long Pond if you are looking for a nice home to stay in while in Bar Harbor.

Owner response: I took all the photo's of Great Haven that you see here and believe me, it was a struggle to try and make things fit into the frame! (Gotta put a wide angle lense on my letter to Santa next year...) With 1800 square feet and a casual living style open floor plan, you're pretty much guaranteed not to be tripping over each other. That could be a vacation all in itself!

We had never used Home Away before but while surfing the web one night, we decided to make some inquiries. Jaye and Bob were very easy and a pleaure to deal with. Everything about settling the contract was straightforward and clear, and they went out of their way to make our travel to, and our stay at the condo a wonderful experience. The condo itself was sparkling clean and more than comfortable. Our family of four stayed at Great Haven July 26-Aug2/08. The condo is located at the doorstep of Acadia Park and the shuttle bus stops right outside for easy commuting to the Park and to Bar Harbour. It couldn't get any easier to explore the area! There is lots to do - hiking, swimming, seaside exploring, shopping in downtown Bar Harbor and every restaurant there was better than the last one! Brewery tours, kayaking (Aquaterra was amazing), window shopping, bicycling...the list goes on - something for everyone. Great Haven is easy to find and offers a vacation that our family found to be both interesting and relaxing as well as affordable. Five stars! Thanks Bob and Jaye for some great memories!

Owner response: Visitors who want to spend their vacation having fun, not taking lots of time getting to it, will really appreciate Great Haven's location on Mount Desert Island. You are only 5 minutes from downtown Bar Harbor and can easily walk to Acadia National Park's Hulls Cove enterance. And there's plently of easily accessed safe storage in the entry level of your condo to park all your "toys" like bikes, kayaks, or canoes, in addition to a heated garage for your vehicle. If you're seasoned travelers like Barb and Jay and you're coming to downeast Maine to get out and play, Great Haven just might be exactly what you're looking for in a vacation home!

Our stay at Great Haven was truely great! From the start of booking our stay the owner was very kind and gave us all the information we needed to start planning our trip to Acadia National Park. When we arrived at Great Haven the townhouse was extremely clean and well cared for. The townhouse is very spacious and allowed my big family to feel as though we were not on top of each other. The Pool right outside our door was clean and warm and looked right over the ocean, at times we had the pool to ourselves as though we were at our very own home. The location is only about 3 miles outside of downtown Bar Harbor and just around the corner from the entrance to Acadia National Park. We were very close to everything we wanted to do, hiking, biking, going to local beaches and shopping. Great Haven is right across the street from the ocean. We spent hours with our kids looking for crabs, starfish and what other ocean life we could find when the tide was out. I would highly recommend Great Haven to anyone that asked, we have many fond memories of our time there and look forward to going back again.

Owner response: As you can see, Great Haven really is a perfectly located vacation home for folks and families who are looking to make the most from their Bar Harbor/Acadia Park experience. Great Haven's location affords you easy access to all the sights and activities yet your homebase is in more of a neighborhood than tourist hub area. We are long time locals who truly enjoy helping our guests plan their visit to our little slice of paradise--or Eden, as Bar Harbor was first called--with insider tips and good humor. Our family of six adults stayed at Great Haven Town Homes June 21-28, 2008. The town home was spacious, clean, and included the necessities. A cove and restaurant were across the highway within walking distance and we were close to Bar Harbor. The management was responsive to an initial request. Because the facility was so perfect, we were able to concentrate on having fun and enjoying Bar Harbor. It was a wonderful family vacation with our adult children.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.

Owner response: One of the wonderful aspects of vacationing at Great Haven is that it "works" for all kinds of visitors; families with young children, those with teens on the go, or as you can see, adult gatherings too. It's a wonderful feeling knowing that we're able to make so many people--with so many different lifestyles--all feel right at home at Great Haven.
