What I liked the most: the seclusion, the peacefulness of the forest and charve of the cottage, make it a true getaway. The sky opens up at night into a dazzling show of twinkling stars--all this conbined with the fact that we were with the greatest bunch of people in the workd--added up to a fabulous stay ---the only suggestion for a change would be; make no changes!

"thank-you" for opening up your beautiful cabin for our annual sister's weekend away! We loved the beautiful scenery and wildlife abounding in the backyard. Lots of deer grazing entertained us all with our morning coffee. The snowfall made the weekend more beautiful in the trees. We also enjoyed the Brewery & area shopping, too!

Our extended family (3 couples and one child) enjoyed a two-night stay at Caballete Retreat. We had hoped to cross country ski in the area but there was no snow so far this winter. No matter--we watched movies and played games indoors. We built a nice campfire outside and enjoyed the clear sky and waxing moon. During the day, we hiked in nearby Black River State Forest. The Retreat felt cozy, full of books, games and homey decorating touches that made us feel welcome. We'd like to return in another season!

Owner response:We are always so happy that families can come together and enjoy each others company. And the fire pit and moon; to sit around a camprire is such a fun thing to do. There has not been much snow yet this year, but Jackson County has so many hiking areas that are beautiful in winter too. We hope you can return and enjoy again.

Sara&Dan, Thank you for a lovely weekend. Sarah and I don't get to see one another very often so we feel blessed to have found a spot in the "middle" to meet. The new landscaping is terrific! The weather was perfect for fires--great pit. The boys explored the ridge. All around--a great stay. Fresh flowers--great touch.

We have such a hectic life in Chicago. We own a dogwalking business and work 7 days a week, all day and night. We are so used to work that we didn't even fully realize how much our souls needed to come here for peace. We had the most amazing unforgettable honeymoon. The cabin is cozy and romantic. Speaking as a woman, Sara you've really outdone yourself. I was so touched the first night I was here, it was like being home. So much like my mom's house. Thank you again so incredibly much! We can't wait to come back.

Dan & Sara, We enjoyed Caballete & our entire family did also. We have good conversation around the campfire, saw some deer, birds. We canoed on the Black River & had beautiful weather! Happy Birthday Laua! Celebrated my 40th birthday with family. Tiki torches, luminaries in the house, and all were dressed the part. Thank goodness there were no mosquitoes. Canoed on the Black River, and ate lots of wonderful food, and the facilities were perfect. Thats for the birthday that will go down in....."infamy".

My family had a relaxing time at the Cabellete Retreat. It was a cozy spot in a beautiful setting. The kids had fun exploring the house with all its nooks. We all loved the library! The kitchen was fully furnished and had everything needed to make a nice meal. Cabellete has a nice homey feel to it. Sara was wonderful to work with as we were making our reservations. She was very kind and helpful.

We had a great time at your wonderful house! Lots of memories with our 3 year old. Although the stairs were challenging (and scary for mama to watch at times) she navigated them just fine. We loved all the decks and flowers. Also saw deer near the yard. Will have fond memories of thes eclectic cabin!

Thanks for making possible another family gathering that feels like a home away from home. Our 10 year old grandson called this a "wodden mansion". He had a great time exploring in and out, and laying in the hammock. His sister had a great time too. Jordyn, (15 mo)& Mom and dad came out from BRF. 2 daughters came from Missouri. We BBQ'd, had a washers tournament, enjoyed the fire pit complete with smores. Thanks for the flowers and everything else you so graciously provide.

We stayed at the retreat with 5 adults and 4 children for a spring weekend. I couldn't believe the number and variety of birds we saw in the well-stocked feeders: lots of woodpeckers, gross beaks, and even an indigo bunting and oriel! The beds and bedrooms were very comfortable. It would have been nice to have the twin bedroom be private (you need to walk through that room to get to the master bedroom), but as it is, it would be perfect for a child of the parents in the master bedroom. The place was immaculately clean and well-appointed. We found everything we needed for cooking meals, etc. We hiked up to the ridge, and the views were very impressive for Wisconsin. We would like to come back...maybe in the fall (the trees must be beautiful!). Lisa Madison, WI

The hiking is enjoyable too, and many times you will see a variety of wildlife. In some areas, on top of the ridge, you can see a very long way. And fall is a nice time here, with a lot of color.

What glorious snow---and many sunny days although very cold---made for great snowshoeing. The view from the top of the ridge is astounding! Did you know you have flying squirrels? Flipped on the deck light one night to check thermometer and saw them--only on accident, since they're nocturnal. We just looked the once & tried to leave them alone after that. We have been here in the summer, but winter is a totally different experience. This place has so many good vibes and lots of good times have occurred here. The new electric fireplaces on the lower level help a lot on coziness. Thank you for your kindnesses.

Caballete Retreat was as advertised and so much more. It's comfortable, cozy and inviting;privacy, seclusion and quiet abound. You couldn't ask for a more peaceful spot. It is more than just an ordinary cabin rental; inside one gets the feeling that it is a home. The love and thought that was put into it is evident in every corner. Family photos, souvenirs, ample books to read, tuned piano, fresh cut flowers in the bathroom, and the owners' caricatures on the piano. It's a clean home and the owners recycle. We needed some peace and quiet and that is exactly what we had. Everything was just as we pictured it would be. The queen bed was comfortable and the very hot water felt good on the chilly days and nights. It is in a beautiful location surrounded by lots of decidious trees. Acres of nothing but woods:there were times we thought Winnie the Pooh might come out of the forest followed by Bigfoot. The greatest thing was that there isn't a neighbor for at least 1/4 mile away and farther away after that. There are no sounds of lawn mowers, weedwackers, snowblowers, car alarms, horns or other annoying sounds. It is nature at its best. The house is unusual in design, but unique, which is what we liked; we fell in love with it immediately. There is lots of open space and light in the house. We never felt cramped. The owners thought of everything.The kitchen is full of pots and cooking accessories. We had everything we needed to cook four meals during our week stay. Sensor nighlights throughout gave off just enough light for the early bird or the night owl to see without flipping on lights and waking others. There is DSL internet service and local tv gets 8 stations. Wondering where to eat or what to do while there? There's a binder of info that lists nearby dining options with menus plus things about the area. Just there to relax; no problem. Want to get out? Black River Falls is just a 10 minute drive away. Main Street and the road to it have options for shopping and dining. We loved watching the many bird species come to eat. Every morning when we walked our dog we saw deer crossing the drive.The house is pet friendly for the well behaved dog. And it's smoke free; another plus. Thanks for an enjoyable stay. No hesitation for us: We will be coming back. On a scale of 1 to 10, we rate it a 9.75. The only thing that would make it perfect for us would be better water pressure in the shower, but that is just about it. Su casa es fantastica. Muchas gracias!

We had a great time here. We liked watching the birds. We liked our hike at the Black Lake. Our cabin is very neat and tidy. I thought it was a privilege to stay here! There are very nice comfy beds. Last ninute renters, we really fell in love with this place. It was almost comical how exactly and perfectly everything matched what was promised. This is such a dear, wonderful home. The hands that shaped it and the lives that inhabited it are everywhere evident, as is the warmth, generosity, and intelligence of the previous inhabitants. You two are kind to share this retreat. The house was cute, clean, roomy, and well stocked w/ dishes pans ect.. We had a three night stay and cooked dinner every night and breakfast every morning and never wanted for a untensil or anything. The property( outside) was nice and well kept. It was rainy while we were there and wasn't able to utilize it much. We were provided with excellent customer service.

I would like to start this review, thanking Ms Sara, even know I did not have the time to meet her in person, she is a wonderful person, my friends and I spend the labor day weekend on this one of a kind cabin, and we have a bless, the house it is in perfect condition, the nature surrounding the house is amazing, we usually do this type of trips 2 or 3 times a year and so far this is the best place to relax and enjoy nature. We live in Chicago, IL. sometime when you live in a big city, you have to go out to the country, to relax and recharge yourself with new energy and this is what we did this past weekend, forget about everything, no more traffic, no more rushing, no more stress. We loved the cabin and we definitely will come back. Once again I want to thanks Sara in name of all of my friends for giving us the best labor day weekend ever. thanks.

Enjoyed ourselves immensely. Beautiful flowers, and loved the birds, although developed an antagonistic relationship with the squirrel raider. Saw goldfinches, two sizes of chickadees, Hairy and Downey woodpeckers, rose breasted grosbeaks, feisty nuthatches and of course the humming bird.
