The house is big and beautiful, located in a nice, quiet area. The kitchen is great and has everything you need to cook. The yard is lovely and very relaxing, overlooking the lake and the mountains, with a wooden table...and a hammock! We also enjoyed the BBQ and the fireplace. Squad was very nice, friendly, patient and helpful with everything. Thanks!! :-)Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My friends and I enjoyed the house and surrounding area. Well equipped kitchen with great sunlight, big wood burning fireplace in the comfy living room and great deck with views of the lake and perfect sunset. The pics are accurate of the house and the owner was a delight to work with. This is our THIRD time visiting this property and we just love coming back each year! The owner is truly wonderful to deal with and will make sure that everything is just perfect for your arrival. The home sits atop a picturesque country property, overlooking the water and the mountains. It is spacious, comfortable, and designed with just the right balance of country charm and modern convenience. We especially love the fireplace and the new Baby Grand piano. We can't wait to return again next year!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our business requires travel to various parts of the country for extended periods and we prefer to find VRBO's that provide us the feeling of being at home. This particular home and owner were such a pleasant fit that we have already stayed here twice in the last few months with another visit schedule in the near future. The home was easily located and nicely prepared for our arrival. Some of the most enjoyable aspects we're he peacefulness of location, the views from numerous windows out into the surrounding woods and down upon the pond, the large fireplace surrounded by large leather couches along with a plentiful supply of firewood, a nice size, updated and easy to use, well appointed kitchen and very comfortable beds Being located out in the country can at times be a concern for us when it comes to groceries or trying to get around but this home is central to many of the areas of interest and I found it easy and enjoyable traveling the back roads. Last but not least the owner was very helpful, pleasant and outgoing in her efforts to ensure our stay from start to finish was very relaxing and pleasant. We are currently in the process of scheduling our next business trip to the area and are looking forward to spending time in this home away from home again. I have not stayed in this home during the fall but I can only image how beautiful the woods must look from inside the home or the large decks surrounding the house.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We have visited the house twice now. Two adults and our dogs and cats, who we have always travelled with. Squad's house is very welcoming and a wonderful mix of old fashioned country with modern updates. Like for example the bathroom sinks and shower are outrageous, beautiful modern fixtures but the main living room feels like walking into the cabin from On Golden Pond. (to me anyway) Nice big tv, fast wireless internet, quiet private location for the house, huge fireplace, great deck, so many nice features to the house. Baby grand piano! It is exactly what we enjoy to get out of the city for a week or so and it has fully delivered on both of our visits. We don't have kids but there is a kids room full of stuff that I would have loved when I was a kid. The local area is quiet and remote in a way that we love. Also Kent, CT is right there and has all the basic stuff most people would want. We eat a lot of produce and there is an amazing farmers market nearby called McEnroe Organic Farm which is a nice drive and has amazing fresh produce in the right months, we have gone in the fall both times. Squad has been extremely gracious and more than fair in all her dealings, couldn't recommend the house more highly. This house is so quiet and peaceful -- I love how it sits back and above the road and really enjoyed the peace and quiet afforded by the trees/leaves and the mountain/lake views from the deck. So relaxing. So perfect. And having Kent nearby, as well as great hiking in Macedonia Brook State Park and the rail trail all made the weekend hugely enjoyable! Kent is a cute little town -- a perfect place to get coffee, breakfast, groceries, etc. Macedonia Brook State Park is really close by too, and the hiking and views were phenomenal. And finally, the Harlem Valley Rail Trail was also nearby, and we were able to roller blade in a beautiful, tree-lined setting. An unbelievably relaxing weekend filled with really fun, accessible outdoor activities.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway.

Nestled privately on a hilltop in a get-away-from-it-all area of the state, the house is more than comfortable and a welcome retreat from most anyone's busy life, where simplicity can reappear in a matter of a day. With inviting leather sofas, lots of seating and dining areas, picture windows and skylights, the home is bright and spacious and beckons one to relax on the spot. The nights are quiet, save for the chatter of ducks and geese and frogs, so a good night's sleep is guaranteed. I found good adventures and this seemingly quiet area offers lots to do, from art shows to high-end galleries, hiking, sales at sophisticated stores in nearby Kent, antique shops, and pretty drives to lovely New England towns that ring the area. If you like to cook, there are farmers' markets nearby, and the kitchen is well-stocked with equipment and spacious enough for several cooks to work together with ease. An outdoor grill makes dinner a snap. The best part of the house is its location high off the road. The large deck offers relaxation on comfy chairs to catch lovely summer breezes, read, snooze, have cocktails at day's end. Conversely, breakfast in the cool mornings on the deck got the day started right. If you want to stay in touch, copies of the New York Times can be found in Kent, and if you want to get away, this is a delightful spot, both remote from the hubbub yet near to active areas. The owner is a delight, helpful and eager to ensure the happiness of your stay. I hope to return in any season of the year.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This was our first VRBO and we could not be happier! Almost missed the house because of summer foliage on the trees but it was everything that had been promised in the listing. It was very clean and ready for guests, like welcoming you home. The owner was very helpful with my questions as we were the parents of the groom so were looking for restaurants or catering for our rehearsal dinner. Renting this home made our wedding weekend relaxing and enjoyable. Two of our three children were part of the wedding and stayed with us. Four adults were able to shower and prepare for this important event without issue. As the owner continues to add improvements we look forward to another visit sometime without a schedule of commitments. Beautiful area, welcoming owner. great stay!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Squad's house is AWESOME. Like...we want to live here now. It's nestled into the bottom of a mountain, but with skylights galore, and just feels SO cozy, ALL the time...! The entire feel of the place is a combo of fancy modern home and rustic cabin, which is perfect for city folk like us who want to get away and be in the middle of nowhere but aren't naturally wilderness-inclined. The fancy bathrooms have been redone recently; there's a gorgeous new deck on which to BBQ (in addition to the larger wooden deck facing a lake and the mountains; and the kitchen is so sunny. We pretty much lived in the cabin-like mega-living room, though, near the fireplace. There's also plenty of stuff nearby, too (hiking, tiny towns in NY & CT, vineyards, restaurants). Highly recommended! We did not want to leave and we'll definitely be back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Just a quick note to thank you very much for allowing us access to your wonderful home! We had a wonderful time over the weekend! From the moment we came up the drive we fell in love this property. The home is very warm and inviting and we felt such ease and peace the moment we walked in. We appreciate how you accomodate your "renters" there wasn't anything that was not right at our fingertips when we needed it! Your personality shines thru in the wonderful pieces of antique furniture that make the home that much more charming. The home was spotless and access to the caretakers was available in the event we were in need of additonal suppies. Maps and brouchures were also provided as an added convenience! Picture do no justice to the magnificant fireplace, beautiful wide plank hard wood floors, views from the outside deck as well as the sitting area in the living room, as well as both high end updated bathrooms!. The quick drive up from the city afforded us ample time to explore all the area had to offer as well as travel into Kent, Ct for a hike up the mountain in Macedonia State Park and later enjoy some delicious chocolate and coffee in a quaint outdoor cafe!! The ease at which the transaction occured was extraordinary. Armanda was available via phone and email and quick to reply to both. I look forward to many trips in the furture! Once again, thank you for your hospitality!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had such a wonderful time at this lovely home last year that when it came time to plan our annual ski weekend again this year, we looked no further than this property. The house has been beautifully updated but has kept its rustic country feel. Kick back in front of the wood-burning fireplace and let your city stress melt away. The property is impeccably maintained and the owner makes everything a breeze. From the chopped firewood down to the fresh folded towels in the bathrooms, you'll have everything you need for your perfect escape! Kent, CT is just a quick drive down the road and is just one of the many beautiful nearby towns. Whether you're coming to ski, hike, bike, wine taste, or shop for antiques, you can't go wrong with this lovely home!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway.

The pictures really don't do the place justice, it's very spacious and luxurious-feeling, while still being super-homey and country-cozy. The location is amazing, surrounded by nature, but a stone's throw from Kent, CT and it's shops. It's close enough to a metro north station that I would consider going with bikes next time and skip the car rental. There were a couple of problems that prevent me from giving five stars, even though I had a wonderful weekend. Firstly, there are mice in the house, which was an unpleasant surprise to find droppings all over the kitchen in the morning. Second, I chose the place partly because it has a jacuzzi bathtub but the water at the house has a strong swampy smell, which made a romantic bath out of the question. Lastly, the owner proved to be slow in responding to emails on more than one occasion, I think she's a very busy woman, but it proved stressful for me. I lost my wallet at the house and I emailed her immediately to ask for her help locating it. It took a week and three emails from me before I got a response that no one had seen it. Also it took over two months to get my deposit back, which I think is too long. Also, there was no DVD player hooked up to the big TV in the living room, which was a disappointment, we watched movies on our laptop. : / Despite these minor things, I enjoyed my stay and would recommend to friends.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband wanted to spend his birthday in a peaceful place, where we could relax and just enjoy some time away from it all. This house was perfect, it is peaceful, quiet and tranquil, yet still close to town and less than 2 hours away from NYC. The home is kept in excellent condition. Our bassette hound loved the place, there is plenty of room for the dogs to run and lounge around. It has a beautiful fireplace, unfortunately the weather was too warm for us to turn it on, but on the bright side, we were able to eat all of our meals on the deck. If you want to get away and relax, then this is definitely the place to go... We hope to go back in the summer to enjoy the many activities around the area. Thanks Armanda for being so helpful through the whole process and accomodating us in such short notice.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are so happy for people to enjoy this home, where it's peaceful and one can recharge one's energies, as well as being near cultural, outdoors, and reacreational activities of all kinds if so desired. We are especially happy to accommodate the 4-legged (or 3-legged - we have a 3-legged dog) family members and hope they enjoy the relaxing atmosphere as well. See you again soon, Natalia!

This house was exactly what I was looking for: quiet, peaceful, cool (NYC is oppressively hot in August), with a fast wireless network. I was able to finish writing my thesis here, and enjoy the small town atmosphere all around you. Also, the homeowner is accommodating and really sweet, so as a first time user of VRBO, dealing with her during our transaction was a breeze. The house is well-maintained, clean, and very pleasant. A lovely welcoming home, perfect for exploring the Litchfield Hills/Housatonic Valley area. For families like ours that love to travel with our dogs, this is a perfect house to visit - and the owner, a dog owner and dog lover, is involved in dog rescue, which makes staying in the house feel even better. Very kid friendly as well, with a good selection of games and toys. Lovely views from the porch, great light in the kitchen and kids playroom, and a terrific fireplace. The Macedonia State park is a few miles away - great hiking trails along a scenic river. And the Harlem River Rail-Bike trail is nearby as well.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

Our daughters work in Manhattan and we were looking for a place where they could easily hop the train and also get to spend time with their dog. The house is very comfortable and Armanda is very easy to work with. We spent our days hiking in the many nearby parks and relaxing with books and movies by the fire at night. The metronorth station is right at the bottom of the hill, as is a little gas station that has homecooked soups and other things for take-out. A drive north to Millerton NY one can find funky galleries and pubs. It was really fun to be able to enjoy the weekend and outdoor workouts and include the dog. We have definitely put this on our list of places to go again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I stayed here to get away from NYC with my dog and had a wonderful time relaxing and enjoying the crisp fall weather in upstate NY/CT. The house is wonderful - outfitted with everything you need to stay connected yet get away from it all. The property is private and the house is really beautiful. Sitting on the deck with a glass of wine was such a great way to end a long day of hiking and exploring the area. Kent CT is a great town with nice spots for lunch and a really tasty restaurant called Millstone Cafe. Had dinner and brunch there! The house was everything we needed- comfortable, spacious, fully equipped and private. The location gave us the flexibility to travel in both NY or Conn. We enjoyed our day trips to Macedonia Brook State Park, Millbrook Vineyards, Bulls Bridge and Kent Falls. We shopped at McEnroe, Freshtown, Davis IGA and the Amenia Farmers' Market. The DOGS LOVED IT ALL and they were in their true element...not to mention exhausted from hiking!! Jasper, our little hound/terrier finally got to track in the hiking trails...he was truly in heaven! Bacchus, our little Mark Spitz, got to swim a bit in two brooks in the State Parks. The caretaker, Emily, was fantastic and even came to our rescue when we locked the bottom lock on the front door by accident!!! The owner is great and loves dogs so she gets how important it is to travel with the canine members of your family. We will be raving about the house to our friends and will be coming back to this place very soon.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This house and the owner are simply amazing!! The house is a ranch on a private parcel of land up on a hill and surrounded by woods. The owner has made this rental easy by providing a full set of cookware, dishes, glasses, appliances and fantastic comfy down bedding. There is enormous natural light from the several skylights and at night the HUGE fireplace (and well stocked pile of wood) makes it easy to make a fire...even for this novice! We never wanted for anything. If you are a dog owner, this place is for you. Our two dogs felt at home. The owner is a dog lover so she understands the importance of traveling with the entire family. The hills and roads around the house are great for dogs to chill out on and the proximity of the house from the state parks in the area make hiking with the pooches totally fun!! Kent, CT is 10 minutes away and the wineries and vineyards of some of the best Hudson Valley winemakers are within 20 minutes away!! Hike and then sit by the fire with a newly purchased bottle of vino!!! Recommending this to all our family and friends and planning our return as we write this.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

An easy and scenic drive from NYC makes this a great escape. Communicating with Armanda, the homeowner was a pleasure; she was extremely accommodating and I really felt like a welcome and wanted visitor. Armanda’s house is well taken care of and it appears that she is making additional improvements to make it more comfortable than it already is. Since we were only 2 people and a dog, we had a ton of room, but there is plenty of space for two couples or a family (she even has a small playroom for kids). I slept like a baby during my stay. Besides nature’s noises, it was so quiet and peaceful. The comfy mattress was great too. The house has all the amenities you need and has a homey feel. Armanda is an animal lover and dogs are welcome. Our dog had a blast. The area around the house is very scenic and there are several places to hike and enjoy nature. The town of Kent, CT is only a 5-minute drive from Armanda’s. Kent has adorable shops, galleries and restaurants. I will definitely be a return guest at Armanda’s getaway!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stopped here on our travels (2 times- way up to Maine and back) because it was just a perfect fit for us and also to stay in the Hudson Valley. The house is so relaxing and spacious. It has a great kitchen too which is a huge advantage for traveling and we made some nice meals. It's private and surrounded by trees. Glass of wine on the deck after traveling 7 hours is pretty great. My mom and sister met us there too. There's 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths as well which is a luxury. The best part is that it is super dog friendly so we were able to bring our boys and feel comfortable and safe. Walk around outside (leashed of course!) in private. No traffic! No people traipsing up and down halls like in a hotel. On the way home after our second stay we toasted a great vacation at a cute coffee shop in Kent. It's a nice town just a few miles from the cabin. Will be going back no doubt. The owner is very responsive and ultra accommodating. The whole experience was a real treat. Thank You!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: I'm always delighted to share a place where people - and their dogs - can relax, have some quiet and privacy, and enjoy the beautiful countryside and outdoors, and all the fun and activities NE Dutchess County and NW Connecticut have to offer. Glad to have had you and your 4-legged boys, and look forward to the next time!
