Look no further for a perfect Honeymoon get-away, whether it's your first or your 50th! New granite counters, bamboo cabinets, newly remodeled bathroom, fresh paint & decor. And, in our cozy unit you'll have a front row seat for viewing of whales, turtles, and boating activities! Prime whale watching is from January through April.
Also perfectly located to watch the surfing spot named "Freight Train"; the name they give to the ocean wave that often sets up and is one of the fastest tunnels of water in the world (it's like a 'freight train' for the surfers)! You can't get closer to the ocean than this unit ideally situated in the very best location in Central Maui. Our condo is set up for a maximum of two non-smokers, please.
Our cozy 1 bedroom/1 bath unit on the second floor is perfect for the couple that wants a quiet retreat, yet central to everything on Maui. There are two elevators and stairway nearby, a security screen door to allow wonderful cross ventilation all night long, King sized bed, large TV's in both bedroom and living room; ceiling fans in the living room, bedroom, and on the lanai; free secured wireless internet. Eat out on the large lanai as you gaze at the great Pacific or walk to what will easily become your favorite Maui restaurant.
We have thought of everything to make your home away from home comfortable and inviting; there are beach chairs, umbrella, coolers, and beach towels for your use and enjoyment. We even have a regular hand held or giant binocular for your use. Because we are on-island owners, we can attend carefully to the needs of our condo and our guests.
Maalaea is famous for the bay the humpback whales use each year to birth and mate, and you'll see it all during the winter and spring months. Thinking of coming in the spring or summer? It's beautiful here! The temperature hovers around 85 degrees with Trade Winds blowing. Why not sign up for a turtle patrol and watch for nesting green and hawksbill turtles as you walk the longest beach walk on Maui. Walk to Sugar Beach or Kealia National Wildlife Pond one direction, or walk to the Harbor (with its many shops and restaurants) or the Ocean Aquarium the other way.

Why the Owner Chose Maalaea
There is no better view of whales and turtles anywhere on the island than in Maalaea, and to find a direct ocean front/ocean view condo seemed like a perfect complement to our other vacation rental in Kihei. Now, guests who want a quieter, low key environment can choose Island Sands and fall asleep to the sound of waves lapping at the shore just a few feet away from the building.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo
The most unique benefit is the proximity to the ocean...and to the rest of the island! Whether you want to go to Lahaina or Kihei, Kahului or Haleakala, you are central to it all in Maalaea. There is a miles-long beach within a block for leisurely walks or powerful exercise opportunities!
The Harbor features snorkeling, dive, fishing and tour boats. There are restaurants and shops. Also, the Harbor is home to the Maui Aquarium.
For over 20 years, this restaurant has received rave reviews... walking distance from our condo!
This beach offers long walks. During the fall/winter season, watch for whales. During the spring/summer season, watch for nesting or hatching turtles!
Elevated Boardwalk allows users to see native birds in the refuge.

We are pleased to be your island hosts and hope we will meet or exceed your expectations for a pleasant place to call home while on vacation. Maui is an exceptional place on earth and when we moved here from Portland Oregon in 2001, it took little time to feel truly blessed. We also intuitively knew that we needed to 'give back' to the community in any way possible. We helped build a coastal pedestrian trail, work with and help protect native seabirds, restore local dune structure, remove rubbish from immediate coastal areas, work with a local park Action Team and helped develop a Park Watch program. In addition, we became active members of the Kihei Community Association and The Rotary Club of Kihei Wailea.
As we worked on our outside projects, passers by would ask to join us so we started a loose grass-roots organization of individuals who want to help make a difference; Hoaloha 'Aina (Friends of the Land). Please feel free to join us any Monday morning from 7:30am-9:30am as we remove invasive species, cut in or maintain beach access trails, plant native species, pick up rubbish, install sand fencing, mulch trails, weed, or any number of other projects along our Kamaole Beaches or Coastal Heritage Trail right across the street from Kamaole Sands Resort. Also known as South Maui Volunteers. look for our bright green vests with that name. If you decide to join us, we have gloves and tools for you to use. We have also teamed up with the Pacific Whale Foundation for their "Volunteers on Vacation" program, and you may collect a special gift at their location in Maalaea as a thank you gift for your volunteer effort during your holiday!

Very private ocean front lanai was great for whale and turtle watching as well as the beautiful sunrises and sunsets! We had a great view of a monk seal that visited the little mini beach by the condo. The sunshade helped to keep the heat of the sun out during the morning, and the rest of the day, the breeze kept the unit nice and cool. It was very nice to be comfortable without shutting ourselves in with air conditioning. On windy days, the lanai is nicely protected and a great space to spend time. Very well maintained unit with all the basics we needed for a perfect holiday.
Recommended for:Age 55+.

Stunning Sunrises! We loved how clean and beautifully decorated the space was. Having the use of amenities was such a plus. We were so close to everything, yet away from it all. Lis was delightful and made sure all of needs were met. Pack a lunch, save your money, and snorkel at Makena Beach. Mahlo.

I need to make a comment about snorkeling at Makena Beach for those who may read this and are unaware ... sometimes, like the day you were there, snorkeling is an amazing experience with calm waters. Normally however, Makena State Beach (also known as Big Beach) is known for its slamming-against-the-beach wave action and undertow. Beautiful to watch, but very treacherous and for experts only. Do be careful and ask the lifeguards that are now at the beach several hours a day about the conditions before venturing out. "If in doubt, don't go out" is their mantra and for good reason. Makena has had a reputation for terrible accidents and injuries ... The good news; you are spot on in finding one of the most beautiful beaches on earth! More good news; if Big Beach is too rough to go in the water, there are plenty of great alternatives nearby. Aloha. My husband and I just returned from a wonderful week-long stay at this amazing condo. It quickly became our "home away from home", having all of the comforts we needed or could have wanted. The photos are true to what we had, but they do not show the love and care that has been put into making this "home" the bit of paradise it truly is. The owner (Lis) was available at any time if we had a question or concern and was more than pleased to be of assistance if needed. The condo is very well kept and I didn't feel the need to do any type of cleaning upon entering it for the first time---I have been known to do that sort of thing. It is truly centrally located and we were only minutes from just about anything. Even to travel to the other side of the island took just about 15-20 minutes. Being centrally located, we didn't waste time having to locate beaches, etc. They were right in front of us within minutes. Truly a great location. If you have forgotten anything, chances are Lis has it somewhere in the condo. A quick look will probably produce whatever you are in need of. **Thanks for the lotion, Lis! :) One note to any visitors---Please get a "store card" when you go for groceries. We stopped at the Safeway store and I was taken by the cost of things without a store card. It only takes a minute to stop at the service desk and sign up for one. Saved me A LOT of money on the 2 grocery trips we made. Also, there is a discount/pharmacy type store (Longs)---we were informed that it is now owned by CVS, so if you have a CVS card, use it. We can't thank Lis enough for providing a wonderful environment for us while we were there. Also, having a security door at the main entrance was also wonderful. It provided us with a constant breeze to the unit. Thank you Lis for sharing your little piece of paradise with us and so many others. Those who might visit in the future will definitely be pleased.

From the time we arrived at the condo we felt as if were home. It is beautifully keep and it feels like you think the Island should. It had everything we needed. My husband pick it from all others becouse of your view. We now see that is so much more then just the view. We would love to stay again if we make it back to Maui.

We flew to Maui after spending a week on Oahu. The 1 bedroom condo is clean, comfortable and decorated Island style. Also the grounds are very well maintained. We knew the condo will be well-equipped but it exceeded our expectations. We had all we needed, even everything for a relaxing day on the beach. After a eventful day we enjoyed sitting on the lanai with the binoculars and we saw our first monk seal right outside the condo (unfortunately whale season was already over) Lis is a wonderful host, always ready to help. She provides all the basic info you need (plus suggestion). The location is close to the airport and a good starting point to explore the island.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children.

We loved staying at your beautiful condo. It has everything we needed. Had a wonderful 10 days and saw so many beaches, so much fish, coral, turtles. Loved our stay at this Condo. Lis was so helpful before and during our stay. The condo is in excellent condition with a beautiful lani. Nothing better than sitting on the lani eating breakfast in the morning. Perfect for a couple looking for a quite place after a busy day. The condo is central to everything on the island. So many extras included was much appreciated...beach towels, beach chairs, coolers and so on. Just a fabulous place owned by some really great people.

Thank you for all the hospitality you showed us throughout our stay in your beautiful condo! It has truly been an unforgettable trip, from our Tsunami experience to the amazing whale sightings from the lanai! We had everything we needed--and then some--to feel at home here and really wish we could stay longer.
