Accommodations:  House, 1 Bedroom + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-4)

Keywords:  Traditional House, Villa

In Oia, Santorini, Greece, we have renovated traditional cave houses with a majestic view to the caldera. At night the constellation of Corona Borealis can be seen at its zenith right above us, so we decided to name the houses after the constellation. Living here, the magnificent view to the caldera from the large balconies and the sunlight create a beautiful scene during the day, while at night the night sky enables dreaming to its maximum.

The location is in the center of the village of Oia (15 km from Santorini airport and 20km from the port), following 54 steps down towards the small port of Armeni.

The villa is composed of two levels and this is the cave house of the lower level, Nusakan. Its facilities include one fully functional kitchen with cooking utensils provided, a fridge and two stove tops, one king size bed that sleeps two persons and one convertible bed that sleeps two persons more in an open plan arrangement. There is one bathroom with shower and a big private balcony for recreation. The house is a cave in a rock and can accommodate up to 4 persons.

If your party is bigger than that or you would like to inquire about the cave house of the lower level, please ask or visit our web page for more information.

Nearby beaches are the port of Armeni, following the steps outside the house down for a 10 minute walk, the beach of Baxedes, a five minute drive from the village and the port of Ammoudi, following the steps from the castle of Oia down to a total of 15 minute walk from the house. There are also frequent buses to the capital Fira from the bus terminal of the village. Typical activities include sailing to the volcano and the caldera, hiking the paths across the caldera, snorkeling and diving.

Best place in all of Santorini

Guest: c1azucena (Saint Petersburg, Florida)
Date of Stay: 08/25/11 Review Submitted: 12/16/11

While on a six month traveling sabbatical, my husband and I decided to stay in Coronae for a one month honey moon after getting married a few weeks prior. Till this day, when asked what was our favorite place of our 6 month travels, without a doubt we both say Oia. What made our stay in Oia, Santorini so special and incredible wasn't just the island but where we decided to stay and the people we stayed with. Theo, Billi and Maria are wonderful people who made our stay more special than we could've ever imagined. Coronae is nestled on the cliffs overlooking the Caldera in such a way that it makes you feel like it's just you, the sea and sky. Theo did an impecable job renovating the suites. Both the description and the pictures are very accurate regarding location and appearance. The suite was clean and maintained in excellant condition. The one advisory I would like to make are the infamous stairs. There's quite a few of them and they are steep and slippery in certain sections so one must be careful when going up and down (especially if you're clumsy like me). It took a little bit of getting used to but made for an excellant work out and warm up before our morning runs. Regarding activities, there's tons to do. Theo gave us a personal tour of all the restaurants and shops in Oia; which ones to go to, which ones to stay away from. There are so many great little shops, cafes and restaurants you could try something different every day. The island has a great hike trail with the most amazing views as well. Renting a 4wheel was also a lot of fun and another great way of seeing the beautiful island. They also have great vineyards. We went to a wine tasting at Domain Sigalas and had to return the following day for a bottle of wine. I can't say enough about our stay here. Overall this place and the people were magnificent. If you are looking for a personal touch and a private, home-like feel away from tourist traps, this is definitely the place to go. I would recommend it and go back there in a heart beat. We were so glad we bypassed the resorty places with the impersonal staff that don't really care about the guests as people but just as another $ passing by their revolving door. Theo, Billi and Maria are exquisite and will make you feel at home the minute you step into Coronae. It is a majestic place and the pearl of all of Santorini.

Superb Experience!!

Hands down the nicest place we stayed in during our trip to Greece! We are so lucky to have found this little piece of paradise. My wife and I were on our honeymoon and couldn't have asked for a more romantic setting. Theo and Bilyana were gracious hosts finding the perfect balance between giving us the privacy we wanted and being there when we needed them. Some truly unforgettable moments were spent out on the patio under the stars while Theo played the guitar. I would highly recommend this vacation rental for anyone who is looking for a beautiful view of the caldera, away from the hustle and bustle of Fira but still close enough to walk to the bakery in the morning. Right from the beginning, when we were greeted at the taxi stand, Theo's hospitality stood out above the rest as he carried all of our bags down the stairs for us. The listing depicts the suites perfectly and they look just like the pictures. The size of the suite and the amenities provided for the price paid are well worth it and Coronae Borealis is actually a great deal compared to similar guest houses on the island. Theo and Bilyana do a great job maintaining the property and you can tell they take great pride in their home. They know the island well and were able to give us recommendations and explanations when need be. If you are considering staying in Oia, don't pass this one by!! Enjoy your stay :)

Magnificent View in beautiful cave house

Guest: Maria (Houston, Texas)
Date of Stay: 05/23/11 Review Submitted: 06/05/11

A friend and I stayed at Coronae Borealis (Alphecca House) at the end of May 2011. Our stay and overall experience in Santorini was wonderful. The cave house looks exactly like it is depicted in the photos. The view was truly maginificent! We were glad we chose to stay in Oia. The town is much more quaint then Fira, with many cafes, restaurants and stores just a few steps away. We ate many of our meals on our patio overlooking the breathtaking caldera, and spent the evenings enjoying conversation and Santorini wine under the stars. We also made a new friend (Mussa the cat) as there are many friendly dogs and cats in the area.We also enjoyed meeting Theo and Bilyana who were very gracious hosts. We hope to return one day in the not too distant future!

Owner response:Dear Maria, Thank you very much for your comments. We wish that we will improve our house even further for a more enjoyable and convenient stay. We are very grateful that you have been our guest. All the best Theo and Bilyana

Paradise

This review is long overdue. My fiance and I stayed at Coronae Borealis in September 2010. We dream about our experience frequently. Our hosts were divine - young vibrant peaceful souls that gave us any and all information to make our experience that much more superb. The cave dwelling was exquisite with magical details throughout. Each morning we had breakfast on the fantastic patio and were overwhelmed with the beauty we were blessed to witness. We will be back very very soon!!!

What a beautiful place. I was coming up from the port of Armeni to Oia and it was impossible not to stop and visit the house. They were still renovating inside but the beauty was really amazing. I am a model in profession and I took great pictures from the front patio. A big thank you to the owner for his hospitality!

I visited the house during the renovation. The owner was very polite and let me take photos from the front patio which was amazingly beautiful. I've seen all the areas of the house as they were reconstructed and I was amazed how they blended in with the natural environment. A very beautiful place ideal for couples or friends
