Tahoma house description
One of the larger Tahoma houses for rent on VRBO (sleeps 16+), a great value (only $250/night) and one of the very newest as well, completely remodeled in 2010!
Our vacation home offers lovely views of the lake from the downstairs bedrooms, main living spaces, and our huge wrap-around deck. The house is quite large (2400 sq. ft.) and doesn't just sleep 16 (or 18, with the pull-out couch) but actually accommodates that many *comfortably,* thanks to a luxury kitchen with island, large living area, 2.5 baths, and ample (six cars, easily) off-street parking. We remodeled in 2010 using top-quality materials, all new appliances and fixtures, and brand new beds, but preserved details such as the monumental fieldstone fireplace and our family stained glass.
The layout of the house is as follows:
1st floor: Two bedrooms each with two pairs of bunk beds and a double bed (so each is able to sleep six, nice for a single family or a bunch of tired skiers!), one full bath, a separate half bath, washer and dryer, wood storage (which we keep well supplied!), additional large closets and a spacious entryway, so plenty of room for boots, coats, and carriages.
2nd floor: Two more bedrooms, each with a double-size bed. Full bathroom. Lots of additional closets containing generous supplies. Fully outfitted gourmet kitchen with a large island, separate dining area, and a living space with very comfortable seating for a dozen, plus a big-screen TV with VCR, DVD, and cable. The living space leads to a huge wrap-around deck with marvelous views of mountains and lake.
All rooms have closets, so no shortage of storage.
Outside: From the front door, a covered entryway leading to a path to the stairs to the off-street parking. From the back door a small gravel path leading to a small quiet patio overlooking the lake. Lots of trees all around and only a couple of other houses in sight.
We offer high speed internet and get great mobile phone reception so no need to be out of touch...unless you want to be!
A short walk up the hill and you'll find yourself in the Desolation Wilderness, a National Forest that goes on forever. This means wonderful hiking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and mountain biking is available without having to get in a car! If you're looking at this posting then we probably don't have to tell you that Tahoma is near some of Tahoe's best skiing--Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows are less than half an hour away, and Homewood, one of the West Shore's best kept secrets, is literally right next door--and outdoor activities in all seasons. Two wonderful state parks are just a bit further down Highway 89 (Sugar Pine Point and DL Bliss), both offering camping, beaches, wildlife, hiking, cross country skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, etc. It's just 15 minutes to Tahoe City, with all it offers, too, and there are several really excellent shops and restaurants even nearer than that.
Note: We do not normally provide linens, but if you are coming from far away and cannot bring your own please let us know as we may be able to make an exception. We can accommodate pets with advance notice. Any other issues? We want to make sure your stay is comfortable, so please let us know!

- There's so much to do in Tahoe all year round. My family's favorites are Homewood for skiing that's super convenient (Squaw Valley and other world-class resorts are less than 1/2 an hour away for the more demanding skiers); Sugar Pine Point and D.L. Bliss state parks; cross-country skiing and sledding all around the neighborhood; and numerous wonderful beaches and hikes....moreless

I really enjoyed staying at the house. The top floor really feels like you are surrounded by trees and lake view. The dining table and kitchen are great. and the fireplace is great but don't forget to get your own wood. (no wood at the place). The two bedrooms upstairs are very nice. The downstairs feels a bit more underground and it is fine for sleeping. If you were to be a lot of people I think the room would be too crowded unless you have a bunch of kids. The bunk beds are very close to each others, (the bottom bed and the top bed) and you need to hop to the top bed. That would be my only complain.

Owner response: Thank you for your review, and again, apologies for not having the wood store marked more clearly. We always keep that stocked--no point in having that big a fireplace without a lot of wood at hand!--but must not have noted it clearly in the instruction booklet. I'll be sure to update it soon. Thanks again.

This house is wonderful! My extended family rented this house for Christmas. There were 8 adults and 5 children and 2 dogs and there was plenty of room. The owner, Anna, is so lovely! She arranged to have the house decorated for Christmas for us and even let us get into the house a day early at the last minute. The house is incredibly well stocked with anything you might need including paper and plastic goods, etc. We are all foodies and the kitchen was also well stocked for all the cooking and baking we did. The view from the house truly is heavenly and the location was perfect for all of us outdoor lovers. Also, the house was immaculate and very nicely decorated. I recommend this house to anyone looking for an affordable vacation getaway to tahoe!!

I definitely know why this home is called Cloud 9! There is a heavenly view of Lake Tahoe from the second floor. The kitchen has upgraded appliances and full of all dishware/cookware you could ask for. It even had nice extras, such as tea and aluminum foil. The sofas are extra comfy and overall a large and inviting home! We were about 15 minutes away from snow play area, where the kids and adults had a blast. The owner was helpful in answering my questions. This was our first stay at a vacation rental. It was such a pleasant experience that we are thinking of making this an annual family trip.

The Best Tahoe House We've Ever Rented!
The Best Tahoe House We've Ever Rented!
Our family has been coming to Lake Tahoe for more than a decade and we've stayed in all types of rental properties, from lakefront luxury to really rustic cabins. Far and away, this is one of the nicest homes we've ever rented and an incredible value at the rate offered; the photos simply do not do it justice. It is very tastefully decorated and has new hardwood floors, big windows, large BRs with comfortable beds and the living area is so spacious. We had a gang of friends and family - all ages and everyone was really happy with the choice we made as it fully exceeded our expectations. It is just perfect for families or large groups. Hanging out in the light-filled 'great room' around the beautiful fireplace and cooking in the deluxe kitchen with an expansive view of the Lake cannot be beat! Staying in the Homewood/Tahoma area is the best; we loved being away from the hotels and crowds of South Lake, with lakefront Sugar Pine State Park nearby and the trails of Desolation Wilderness in short short walking distance right up the road. And still close to the top ski resorts. Even the house itself being set off the road allows for a sense of privacy that is hard to come by. We easily could have stayed another week. The owner was a pleasure to work with and we will definitely be back.

Better Than Expected
Better Than Expected
Trying to accommodate a large group of varying ages coming from different directions for over a week was sure to be a challenge. We had questions about accessability in the snow, paper & kitchen supplies, necessity of internet access, etc. The owner answered all of our questions in a quick, friendly, accommodating manner. This rental experience was better than expected. The house was set up so nicely and the placement of rooms and furniture were obviously thought out and worked so well for us. The house has been newly remodled and everything was so clean and tastefully decorated. We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful cabin, the breathtaking views, and doing business with such a delightful owner. I would highly recommend this particular cabin for its location, views & amenities as well as the ease and enjoyment of working with this particular owner to my friends, family and to you!

Year Purchased: 1973
About the owner: I'm a grandmother living near the Pacific coast in Marin. I and my husband, now deceased, bought this place over thirty years ago, and have been using it for our family vacations ever since. Unfortunately, I don't get up there as often as I used to, so decided to renovate the entire house to make it up-to-date for vacation renters such as yourself. I hope you enjoy your stay!
Why the Owner Chose Tahoma:
When we purchased this house many, many years ago the area was a lot less developed than it is now, and we appreciated the wildness of the surrounding area. Since then much new building has sprung up, but it's been our great luck that most of that building has taken place lower down, near the highway, so our views (which is what convinced us to make the purchase) to this day include hardly any other houses. Also, while the lakefront has been bought up and privatized along a lot of its length, we are near two major state parks, which guarantees that we can always enjoy some of the most beautiful beaches in Tahoe.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
My family has decades of happy memories associated with this place and that, combined with its upgraded comfort following last year's top-to-bottom renovation, keeps us very happy here. Our location near the top of the hill ensures peace and quiet, and, best of all, delivers spectacular views of the lake. Cloud 9 we call it, and with good reason.
