It is quite the drive to this location from Fresno given the change in elevation, but well worth the white knuckles on the steering wheel. And, somehow, by the end of our stay, we got used to all the hairpin turns and steep side drop-offs on the roads in and around this area. The outside of the house is fairly nondescript as shown in the photos, but the inside was quite nice with a view of the Sierras south that is simply stunning and breathtaking. I think that was the biggest pleasant surprise from the listing ... the view is beautiful and hard to describe. Inside, the house was very clean and well maintained and there were several nice amenities including a hot tub, washer and dryer and very nice kitchen area. I can't think of anything we might have wanted for. Would have appreciated having doors for privacy and noise control on the second and third bedrooms, but that wouldn't stop us from returning or recommending it to others. And you couldn't ask for a more convenient location for staying close to Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. Great place to return to and relax at the end of the day. Thanks go to Cindy, Dan and Kimberli.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

Wow! This is an amazing place. Far from the maddening crowds. No cellphone, no cable TV, no internet. But, everything else you need is here. Close enough to Sequoia and Kings Canyon for day hikes. If you want to get away from it all, this is your place. Wonderful accomodations. Amazing views. Hot tub was great. Our dog loved exploring the area too.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

Great place-very private, clean, with incredible views. Hot tub with standard amenities. Only drawback is the steep windy road to get there. Would definitely recommend. We saw deer, fox and a mountain lion while sititing on front porch.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

We found the location perfect for visiting Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks; far enough from any crowds yet close enough for a short drive back and forth to the parks (one note: be ready for winding roads with numerous switchbacks). We had absolutely anything we needed at the house; and if you're looking for peace, quiet, and tranquility, this is it. The hot tub is a definite plus and the perfect way to end the day.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

Close to Sequoia/Kings Canyon. All the amenities you will need are here. Would definitely stay again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

What a great place to unwind from everyday hectic life. The views are amazing, i would just sit there for hour's watching the clouds float by, the birds play and feed their babies, and the little Squirels try to out smart the birds. The house was very clean and suited our needs just find. Most of our time was spent at the cabin playing games, enjoying the view, hot tub, and relaxing. During the day one of our trips we went to "Cat Haven" which was very enjoyable and a very short drive. We were able to see, lions, tigers, leopard and a bob cat. Little did we know we would spot a wild Bob cat right outside the cabin when we returned. We also saw a fox which i thought was really cool. The next day we drove into Kings Cayon which was also very close. Not only would i recommend this place to a friend, i hope to return and visit next year.Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your kind review and we are glad you had a relaxing visit. The Cat Haven is a wonderful, wildlife sanctuary that we are fortunate to have close by. That you got to see a bobcat and fox on the property is a treat.

Our three-night stay here was really relaxing. We enjoyed the property, especially its proximity to Sequoia/Kings Canyon and the amazing views from the front of the house. We would not hesitate to stay here again and will recommend it to friends & family. It was easy to get there and it's truly close to the Grant Grove area of Kings Canyon NP. (Sequoia sights would be a longer drive - we decided to explore that area on our way home via the Generals Highway.) We can't wait to come back to see more of the parks. The cabin was extremely clean inside and the furnishings, though simple, were quite comfortable. We also loved sitting outside (daytime view = foothills and a glimpse of Sierra peaks; night time view = stars and the far-off lights of Fresno) and found a great place to hang a hammock. It is very private--at least from neighbors. (If you're coming in a group, just be aware that two of the bedrooms don't have doors and none of the three have curtains that fully cover the windows.) We were not able to use all the amenities (hot tub malfunction, gas grill out of propane), which was disappointing. Next time we will check with the owners ahead of time to make sure everything we want to use is ready. They are committed to a positive guest experience and will do all that they can to help guests enjoy their stay.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway.

I stayed here for 4 nights with my husband, three kids (ages 4 - 9), our friend and our dog. We were lucky enough to experience the place both with snow and without. Getting up the snow covered driveway was a little tricky, but well worth the trouble. It was a snow covered paradise. What a beautiful view! We sledded on the back hill and our kids and dog had tons of room to run around. We loved relaxing in the hot tub, roasting marshmallows on the fire pit and enjoyed the coziness of the wood burning stove. I also received the best massage I've ever had from the caretaker Kimberly who lives just down the road. I highly recommend her! This was a wonderful place to relax (as much as you can when you have kids) and get away from it all!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1997
About the owner: About us... Cindy and Dan Duriscoe, the owners of the property, want your stay to be as enjoyable as possible. We are former employees of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks and we want to share our knowledge with you. We purchased the property in 1997 and lived here almost 10 years. We know the land, and we did most of the work on the property ourselves. We are constantly making improvements as time allows, and we welcome suggestions. Do not hesitate to inquire about the parks, the monument, and other attractions in the area. We know that this piece of land offers something special at all seasons (Dan's favorite is actually winter). We have watched the land and sky from here, and the peacefulness of the location is unmatched. Both of us enjoy hiking, backpacking, X-country skiing in the Sierra. Cindy loves horseback riding and snowshoeing on nearby trails.
Why the Owner Chose Pinehurst:
This part of California is known for its mild climate, calm winds and stable air most of the time (which makes for wonderful observations of the night sky through a telescope), fall colors of the black oaks (some seasons are more intense than others), and the elevational gradient that allows quick access to a variety of life zones. We think this location is ideally located for access to the high country and foothills, and gives a taste of both. The peace and quiet, walking among our own manzanita woodlands cannot be experienced elsewhere.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Taking walks on the property and neighboring monument lands. Watching the sunset while enjoying a glass of wine. Observing the night sky or a sunrise from the hot tub. Mountain biking or horseback riding on nearby trails. The community of people is very friendly and helpful when work needs to be done. Wintertime can be very peaceful and majestic walking roads and trails, making wildlife observations, just plain having fun in the snow!
