Staying at the cottage with friends was serene. There is plenty of space for privacy, as well as areas for gathering. The porch is perfect, surrounded by a wonderful garden and ideal view of the bay. The road and surroundings are quiet yet the house is within a comfortable walking distance into town. The interior fireplace is cozy with a wonderful view. The bedrooms, baths and common areas are clean, smartly decorated and practical. The kitchen is enormous - it's the real deal for guests who plan to stay inside for some meals. Favorite outings and events included the breathtaking botanical gardens, homemade ice cream shop (we drove to it, not located in town), the Windjammer boat race with parade, exploring the local artisan shops, sitting on the large rocks at the foot of the cottage sipping wine and talking with my friend. This is truly a special place, the cottage and the area. The cottage owner make us feel very welcome and cared for during our stay. I would highly recommend staying in the large blue cottage on the waterfront during your time in Maine.

Return stay at Big Blue. Delightful weather, friends and food - lobster three times! Relaxing time spent reading, figuring out jigsaw puzzles, exploring area, and eating. Well stocked kitchen, large living rooms, great front porch for viewing water activities, cocktails, and general idling. Trip to Rockland to Farnsworth Museum. Very comfortable home and cottage. Hope to come again.

Weather: A few nice days and a few cool rainy days. Favorite adventures: Whale Watch! We saw many Minke whales, seals, porpoises and even a young white tipped shark! We loved kayaking in the harbor in the evening. We even had a seal pop up and check us out. That was really amazing. Day trips to Bath, Wiscasset, & Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. A few of us dropped quite a few dollars at Abacus in Boothbay Harbor and Showcase Antiques Gallery in Wiscasset. Favorite restaurants: We didn't eat out much. The ice cream at the ice cream factory was yummy. The candy shop was good, too. Other thoughts: Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us. The view is amazing. Very, very, very wonderful sunset 8/13

Weather: Most days bright blue sky and chilly evenings. Daytime high was 75 (it was 102' back home in NC!) Favorite adventures: The lobstah haul with real Maine people. Monhegan Island was a perfect day trip. Drove three hours to Acadia. Beautiful drive on Route 1, Cadillac Mountain & Jordan Pond were spectacular. Took a sunset cruise/sail on 65 foot schooner. Golf was very enjoyable at Boothbay Country Club -- felt more like a mountain course and again the people were really nice. Favorite restaurants: Best lobster roll? Red's Eats, hands down. Fresh fish at fish fry just outside of town near Hannaford's Grocery. Cabbage Island Clambake was incredible -- 2 lobsters, clams, etc.... Other thoughts: Very relaxed atmosphere that all loved from age 10-80. Morning coffeee on the porch and gin/games/puzzles by the fire. Lots of great memories. Thank you, Pat. We did love the town of Boothbay Harbor.

Westher: Mostly sunny, one day of rain -- windy tonight. Favorite adventures: Botanical Gardens -- Monhegan -- all fairy house related. Having a chance to explore the vicinity and not feel rushed. Robinson's wharf for lunch, the _____ General Store and drawbridge, hiking Porter's Preserve and East Boothbay and Ocean Point. Favorite Restaurants: Mostly eating here "at home". A fun trip was to the Round Top ice cream store with our grand daughter. The perfect place to be while introducing our two granddaughters to the wonders of Maine. Thanks for allowing us to extend our stay after the rest of the family went to Tanglwood. We had a chance to meet relatives of California friends.....wonderful art gallery on Campbell Street.

Weather: mostly beautiful, some days humid, some days rainy, some evenings cold ---fire time! Favorite adventures: our girls (10 and 6) loved Monhegan Island and the Botanical Gardens fairy houses, kayaking, mini-golf, puffin exhibit in Rockland. I enjoyed the Wyeth Center, sailing out of Linekin Bay, rock skipping contest! We loved sitting in front of the cozy fire reading & doing puzzles. Jeff also loved the road trip to Brooklin to see his dad's boat building workshop. We mostly ate in, but loved the Oyster Farm on River Road and Atlantic Edge. So good to have steamed lobster -- we had it two times! Also loved lunch at the Botanical Gardens. Great old house! Would be interesting to learn its history.

Mostly very sunny, but cool. It was awesome on the foggy days to watch the fog roll across the bay. Favorite adventures: just being here with families of two of our children, five grandchildren, three from Montana. Their favorite adventure was the new "ropes course" in Wiscasset. My favorite was playing my alto horn with the Hollowell Community Band at the July 4th concert on the wharf AND being invited to direct the band in the march I wrote for my cousin who was deployed in Iraq, "March of the 62nd Engineers". Favorite restaurant: Kaler's of course, on the wharf. Terrific ice cream store also on the wharf with scores of flavors including "Elvis Pretzle". Thoughts to share: nothing beats a Maine morning sitting in the kitchen with a steaming cup of coffee looking at the lobster boats making their rounds.....well, maybe a Maine afternoon, sitting on the porch sipping wine.....or maybe the nap in the living room after building a fire in the fireplace. Wonderful experience.

We had a wonderful time at this home. It was so relaxing to put together puzzles and build a fairy house. The home is very large so there is lots of space for the family to spread out. We all enjoyed cooking together in the large homey kitchen which was very well stocked. We sat out on the front porch and watched the stars at night. It was so pretty to just sit in any of the rooms and watch the sail boats go by and hear the lobster boats go out in the morning.

What a wonderful place. My wife and I have been there twice: Once as part of a reunion with old friends, and this summer, our two grown children, their significant others and our two grandchildren joined us for a delightful week.. The house (and the location) were perfect for both. The house is roomy and comfortable. A large kitchen where everybody can gather and cook and kibitz. Two fireplaces for those cool Maine nights. Big ol' front porch for afternoon cocktails and views of the sailboats and ferries on the bay. A large front lawn for playing catch and bocce ball. Large picture windows in the bedrooms allow you to wake up early in the morning with a panoramic view of lobstermen pulling up their traps. Or close the drapes and sleep til noon. Boothbay Harbor is a delightful town Lots of restaurants and bakeries and ice cream parlors and coffee shops. Tour boats leave from the piers for all sorts of scenic voyages and adventures. This summer, we went to a clambake on Cabbage Island. Don't miss it. Last summer we took the boat ride to Monhegan Island, ten miles off the coast -- a beautiful summer artists colony. There are so many things left that we didn't do, we want to go back and stay in that same wonderful house to enjoy more of the attractions and venues that provide for a memorable Maine vacation.

About the owner: We live in Virginia but come to Maine whenever we can.

Why the Owner Chose Boothbay Harbor:
The property has been in the family for years. Full of memories and memorabilia. The house is large and the spaces flexible to accomodate all ages. The downstairs master suite is large enough for a family. And one family put a crib in the walk-in closet and made it the nursery. The master suite is also very comfortable for older guests with mobility issues.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
On the ocean. Perennial garden for cutting flowers. Front porch with a swing. Five acres of meadow and woods behind the house. Great birding and walking trail.
