Welcome to Sunny Sands Beach House on Puget Island, the perfect year-round retreat for either a quiet getaway or a gathering of family and friends. We are excited to share the relaxing and spacious beauty of the Lower Columbia River. Located on the river’s main channel, Sunny Sands Beach House features a parade of ocean-going ships, tug boats, and pleasure craft. Stroll the sandy beach, swim, sunbathe, build sand castles, roast hot dogs and marshmallows over a campfire, or just dig your toes into the sand.

Puget Island rests like a lily pad amongst several other smaller, uninhabited islands in the Columbia River, midway between Astoria Oregon and Longview Washington. Its 25+ miles of flat, open country roads and accommodating residents make it a perfect location for bicycling; while its abundance of waterways make kayaking a must. July, August, and September are great for summer boating activities such as water skiing and sailing. If you have the equipment, the boat launch is just down the road. And don’t forget your fishing pole. In season, you can fish for salmon and steelhead from the beach. Golf? Tennis? Both are just across the bridge in nearby Cathlamet Washington ... and on your way, keep an eye out for the osprey in their nest atop the Cathlamet to Puget Island bridge.

Let the children play in the heated pool, while you simply enjoy the majestic panoramic view from the deck. Observe bald eagles, osprey, blue heron, and the official Washington State Bird, the Gold Finch. In the evening, watch the sun go down while listening to the honking of Canadian Geese as they fly back to roost in the inner island.

Every room of this 3350+ square feet home offers comfort and relaxation. Continue to watch the ships as you prepare meals in the spacious kitchen that opens into the family room. Along with your email, check out the awesome view from the second story office. Catch up on your reading beside a gas fireplace in either the living or family rooms. Enjoy the warm décor of every bedroom.

Escape to Puget Island on the Majestic Lower Columbia River

Year Purchased: 2010

Why the Owner Chose Cathlamet

After many years away from the Puget Island home where I grew up, I realized how much I missed the friendly waves from passers-by (whether or not they knew you) and folks with time for spontaneous conversations. I longed to dig my toes into the soft, warm sand that consumed so many hours of my childhood and watch ships from around the world pass by my backyard. The beautiful, peaceful countryside never fails to renew my soul. My parents had this house built in their retirement years not only as their home, but as a gathering place for friends and family. Now, my husband and I want to share this little slice of paradise with others. Sail ho! Minette

The Unique Benefits at this House

Sunny Sands Beach House rests on the south shore of Puget Island, situated at the end of a mile long stretch of sandy beach. The only ferry still in operation on the Columbia River connects Puget Island to Westport Oregon--a great bicycling destination for lunch and a piece of homemade pie at the Berry Patch Restaurant. Birds seen on the island include the Caspian Tern, Bullock's Oriole, Western Kingbird, American Goldfinch, Bald Eagle, Great Blue Heron, and Osprey. Sea lions and seals come upriver for an extended stay during salmon and steelhead runs and are particularly visible around the jetty, an easy stroll downriver from the house. In the fall, the apple tree in the backyard attracts the local Columbian White Tail Deer.
