This custom 4 bedroom, 2 bath custom home is one of a kind. Built on nearly a 3/4 acre backlot, the split level California style floor plan feels open and large while keeping a cozy charm. Private views allow you to look out onto endless forrest land and the La Plata Mountains. Being at the end of a cul-de-sac, it’s a great, safe place for kids and private relaxation for folks trying to get away from it all. The property features stone walkways, fruit bearing and indigenous trees, and perfect spots for sledding in the winter. On the lower level there is a 5th room currently set up as an office.
Renovated 2009: Kohler, Grohe & Restoration Hardware Fixtures, Granite Counters, Natural Limestone Backsplashes, Kitchen Cabinets, pulls, Refrigerator/Stove/Washer & Dryer, Bathrooms received Travertine, New Kohler Toilets & Bathtubs, Hardwood Floors in majority of Main Living Areas, New 42' LCD TV, BlueRay/DVD player, and much more.
Come and see what you've been missing!
Activities: Spring and Summer are a delight, you can take a ride through the Animas valley on a glider plane, go trout fishing on one of the many lakes and streams, get wet and wild on a raft trip through the Smelter Rapids on the Animas River, venture 30 minutes west of town and explore the Ancient Cliff Dwelling Indian Ruins at Mesa Verde National Park, rent a mountain bike at Pedal the Peaks and choose from hundreds of trails, spend the day hiking the Rockies or catch the D&SNG Railroad!
Fall is the perfect time to visit the Four Corners to watch the colors change, winter for skiing, snowboarding, sledding, snowmobiling, and summer has the rest! If you've never been you are missing out!
The place to play: Durango is ultimately the place to play! In the winter you can enjoy a scenic ride on an old steam engine narrow gauge train (used in the filming of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid), hit the slopes at Durango Mountain Resort (purgatory), try night skiing at Hesprus ski area, take in the beauty from a different perspective...from a dog sled or snowmobile or simply step out the back door and sled on mountainside that the home is built on.

My entire family loved the Dream House. It was confortable, clean, spacious, well appointed and truly lovely and right in the Rocky Mountains. We enjoyed every minute there. -AshleyDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 6/8

Ever since this house became available as a vacation rental our family has been staying here — more than 6 times so far. The house was great when we first stayed some 3 years ago and was EVEN BETTER when we stayed a few months ago in July! The home is continually being upgrading, this house has only gotten better over time. The house has a brand new Refrigerator, Flat Top Stove, Washer & Dryer, Dishwasher, and there's even LCD flat screen TV's in two of the rooms!. The Wi-Fi signal works great from anywhere in the house including outside on the patio with a cold beverage! I will continue visiting this great mountain retreat with my friends and family as often as I can! :-) Needless to say I am extremely satisfied.Did you find this review helpful? My sister set up this rental house up for our family reunion in Durango over the summer. We had a group of 8 people staying at the house, the rest of our family was local. The home was great because it was just outside of downtown (like 5-6 minutes), which was an ideal location for us because we wanted to have some privacy, quiet and the view, but also didn't want to be way out in the middle of nowhere with a 30 minute drive to do anything. The house looked like it was recently renovated, it had some nice touches, and most everything we wanted and needed was supplied for us at the house. We'll probably be back for our next reunion and would recommend it to others. Overall we had a pleasant experience with this house and the people who take care of it.Did you find this review helpful? Every year we take a vacation together as a group, this year there were 12 of us (6 adults and 6 kiddo's) and we decided to visit Durango. This was our first trip to Durango and our family decided to take the drive in from Texas. We ended up spending 2 weeks in Durango with Justin's vacation home as our base of operations. We ended up visiting Mesa Verde, riding the train, driving the San Juan Skyway and a host of other outdoor activities. We were informed before we booked the house by the owner that he had just renovated the home, we didn't know what to expect because the photos had not been updated yet. When we arrived Karen (his property manager) took great care of us and showed us through the house, and WOW were we surprised! You could see that they spent considerable time thinking out the renovations and put a lot of love into it. Needless to say, we spent most days away exploring the area and evenings on the deck enjoying the view playing games. We typically change locations every year, but I can see us coming back again soon... perhaps next year! :-)Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We usually stay in Aspen or Vail every year for our family ski trip, but this year we chose Durango. None of us had ever been to Durango; however, we had all heard great things. We were not disappointed at all. Durango is a little larger than Aspen and Vail and had a lot more to offer our family. The Dream home was comfortable and we all enjoyed the wood fireplace after a long day of Skiing. Durango Mountain Resort is a massive ski area with runs for every level skier. We skied (and the young ones boarded) for an entire week and never got bored with the Resort! We were able to build a snowman and even sled from the back of the vacation house. We're happy we tried something new, I think Durango will be the new Gannett Family winter tradition. ~Roger Gannett and Family~Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

The photos do not show the true problems with the house. The couches, beds, refrigerator, oven, toaster and coffee maker were so disgusting we did not even want to touch them. All five of us itched all night long in bed. The back balcony porch looked and felt like it was going to fall down. For the fully stocked pantry that was listed in our agreement (it is no longer listed on the website) we had only old, opened, half filled bottles of condiments. The bedroom windows had no curtains that could be closed for privacy, with neighbors that were close by. There was no wireless internet as listed. It is not rural as listed, it is in a large residential subdivision. We requested the owner if we could leave after two nights even though we had paid for three (since we just could not relax there). He said we could, and that he would refund us for the 3rd night. When we got back home he refused to refund our money even though he said he would before we left. We are still fighting in arbitration through our credit card for the refund. Our experience in a nutshell is that it seemed as though the owner had just moved out of the house and left everything he didn't want behind; compared to the 10+ condos/cabins/houses that we have rented in the past which were professional, such as you would expect from a hotel/motel.Did you find this review helpful?
