A magnificent spot on the Intracoastal Waterway. This property is on the very tip of Goat Island with nearly 360 degree views of Lowcountry Marsh Land. Nothing stands in your way as you sit on the brick patio or in the covered cabana and gaze down the channel. It is a great place to rest or do a little bit of Boat Watching.

The house itself is completely surrounded and shaded by Live Oaks, Palms, and Cedar Trees. This keeps the house a little cooler and makes it hardly visible from the water without sacrificing any of the views. It almost feels as though you are staying in a tree house.

With more to offer than just a 'beachfront' house can, this is a fantastic spot year round and not just in the summer.

This Island Getaway is accessible only by boat which makes for a wonderful vacation experience but may leave you with some questions about the logistics. One guest parking spot will be provided at the Isle of Palms Marina and there are several options for water transportation.

1) Feel free to bring your own

In trying to rent this house again, I just realized I never submitted my review! My husband, our dog and I discovered Goat Island by chance while browsing for a secluded, waterfront get-away on VRBO and we are so lucky to have found this listing! Joe, the owner, was wonderful about answering my many questions before the trip and made things super easy on us by meeting us at the marina, showing us how to drive and dock the boat (we rented his) and showing us around the property. Like some of the other reviewers mentioned, he even showed us how to use the crab traps and how to catch bait with the nets. The house was perfect-- secluded, not too fancy for the surroundings, comfortable and well-equipped. We are coming back to Goat Island soon, but sadly, this house is already booked. Lesson learned-- book early!

From the time you step off of the boat, onto the dock, and peer across the marsh...heaven awaits. Joe made sure we were settled, walked us through the house, and made sure we were ready for a few days of rest and relaxation. The house is rustic, but perfectly comfortable and cozy. The views are unbelievable and the island lends itself to beautiful views, relaxing walks, and a break from the everyday hustle and bustle. We had grand plans of spending more time in Charleston, but could not pull ourselves away from the lure of the island. Excellent experience and we will be back soon!!!

This Goat Island Cottage provided such a marvelous stay last September that I did the only rational thing after leaving: I called back and made reservations for October! The cottage is perfectly located, at the end of Goat Island, with ideal access to the natural side of Goat overlooking Grey Bay. It's set back from the waterway, which means noise from passing boats isn't an issue. The house was spotless both times we visited, and we slept like babies on excellent bedding. It's not luxurious--for luxury, go with the masses to Isle of Palms or Kiawah--but it's very comfortable, well-equipped, warm on cool nights, cool on warm days, and surrounded by nature. Goat Island itself is an anomaly: its natural beauty is preserved, especially on the leeward (Grey Bay) side, yet it's only minutes from the IOP. Getting there is the trick, but that's the beauty of Goat: access is by boat only. On both trips, we brought kayaks and paddled over (after an initial powerboat ride over with groceries and suitcases...more below). From then on, all we needed was kayaks, for fishing, exploring, and trips back to IOP marina complex, which has a fine restaurant, a rooftop burger joint, ice, water, and a small grocery store. We thought we'd return to the marina often, but we didn't; the allure of Goat was so strong that we didn't want to leave. Although Goat Island Cottage is the perfect place for kayakers, there are other ways to enjoy it. The owner offers use of a small powerboat with a slip back on IOP, or one can rent a boat from other sources. Also worth noting is that there's nice-looking rental property next door, so a two-family rental could be ideal (see goatislandgatherings dot com). No review of this rental would be complete without mention of Joe, the owner, and his son Clay. Both are immensely gracious, helpful, and kind hosts. They met us at the dock, helped us with our kayaks, and then took our suitcases and groceries over in Joe's boat. Joe was always available by phone if we had a question. Clay even taught my son how to use a cast net. And when we forgot three fishing rods, Joe drove back and collected them with a smile. Goat Island Cottage is the sort of place you hope remains a secret. Only our gratitude for our new friends Joe and Clay lead me to write, reluctantly, a review which lets the secret out a bit. It's a magic place, close and yet in another world, and will give magic memories to anyone who leaves the fray (and their car) behind.

Thanks so much, we really appreciated the effort you made in making sure we were settled in at Goat Island. The cottage is nice and the setting was a wonderful surprise. The site must be a couple of acres with pathways carved thru a tropical jungle. Being on the tip end of the island, it affored us spectactular views of the creeks, marshes, and waterway that surround us. With the additional cabanna, we could take a lite supper or just cocktails down and watch the sunset. The best part of the trip? We were minutes from the Marina and all Charleston has to offer, yet at the same time can get away from it all and do nothing. We will definitely be back! Goat Island is just a terrific family getaway.

This house is one of the most relaxing places I have ever been. I stay there on a regular basis, and each time I'm impressed by how peaceful it feels. You can peak through the trees at the waterway from inside, or sit out on the point and watch the tide rise and fall. When I'm there I like to fish, catch crabs, and catch up on my reading, but there are lots of other things to do on the Isle of Palms and in Charleston. The owners are always gracious and helpful, and the house is always spotless. If anything, the photos don't do the house justice. As mentioned in the ad, the house is not all the way finished out, but I feel like that makes it more comfortable, because it's not in juxtaposition with the jungle outside.
