Conch Key house description

PLEASE WATCH VIDEO!!
This is a very unique rental. It is the most photographed location on Conch Key. Being a historical landmark it is a perfect getaway for honeymooners. Our home is very private. You are not sharing a condo building or apt. Certain times of the year a beautiful sunset can be seen from the balcony adjoining the master bedroom upstairs. The master bedroom has a romantic feel as you enjoy the interior lighting and view. Enjoy the TVs in kitchen, bedrooms, and living room.

You will enjoy sitting under the Sea Grape trees where you will be shaded from the Florida sun while you grill out. The only sounds you will hear come from the beautiful songbirds in the trees. Relax and enjoy the beautiful breeze.

You may also enjoy walking around our quaint and charming island or walk right to the Long Key Channel bridge. Enjoy spectacular views as you walk or bike across the bridge.

Conch Key is well known for its perfect fishing location. Minutes from the dock you are in the Atlantic or the Gulf of Mexico. Excellent fishing awaits you. There is a fish cleaning area located where you dock your boat and water washdown.

During lobster season, if you don't partake in harvesting, you may walk right across the street and purchase fresh lobster from the local lobstermen that live here.

Our location is on the south side of the island for our northern visitors who come to visit in Florida. You will not be hit by the strong northeastern winds that blow through in the winter on the northside of the island.

Once you experience Conch Key you probably will be back again and again.

Although this is not on the water, there is private dockage included across the street.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying in this rental with another couple and we will have memories that last a lifetime! From the unique way the house is designed to the location, it is an awesome rate for this rental. The owners are very friendly and more than welcoming. We were able to see gorgeous sunsets everynight. The hermit crabs were very entertaining to find in the evenings. Lots of outdoor activites to do in the area that we took advantage of such as walking, exploring, biking, kayaking, swimming, and of course eating seafood! The washer and dryer was a nice ammenity to have on the rental site. We would recommend this rental to any couple looking for a different type of rental!!

Listing was good, property was very clean, owner was very helpful in all respects and great with communication throughout. I would absolutely recommend this unique, quirky, awesome, getaway. Bedrooms have separate entries from the main house. That makes this especially perfect for private slumber chambers away from the main action of your group but you do have to ascend a steep ramp or a spiral staircase to get to them. No worries, there is also a comfortable sleeper in the central house to accommodate any group members that are uncomfortable with the bedroom access. The rest of the property is fine to traverse and has some great outdoor sitting areas for enjoying the mornings and evenings. We read "Last Train to Paradise" a book on Keys Ghost Stories while we were there and visited all the key points in both! We also visited Flipper's gravesite, many wonderful restaurants and the Nichols family lobster boats right around the block from the house. Gary Nichols was wonderful and sold us some awesome lobsters right off the back of the boat! The location is perfect for doing all the Keys in a relaxed week and we just happened to be there while the Polar Vortex put the East Coast in single digits. Our worst weather was a few hours of 65 degrees :)

This past January (2012) was the 2nd time we stayed at ConchKey. My husband is 72 and all of our guests and familly that visited were the same age group. We did watch the video before our first stay and found it very helpful, we had no concerns about traversing the property. The area is lovely and we loved the trees and flowers , the hermit crabs were a welcome surprise, our cat loved them but couldn't figure out what they were . We would recommend the property to anyone not wheel chair bound. we had a wonderful stay the owners are wonderful we had great times with them and their friends . Looking forward to our next stay .

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful property in February. We arrived at night and were greeted by a beautifully white-light lit property. It is beautiful and funky and fun. There are two full bedrooms, a kitchen, living room and full bath. The property is made up of two separate buildings which would be GREAT if you have two couples traveling together. Each bedroom is on the upper level and is accessed either by a beautiful spiral staircase or a curving stone ramp which matches the beauty of the rest of this property (built with coral, rock and other treasures). We loved spending time at this beautiful home and were sad that we had so many things we wanted to do on the Keys that we enjoyed it mostly only at night when it was beautifully lit. I just read the review posted before ours. If you look at the photos provided by the owner, they are VERY accurate in showing the property and the bedrooms/bathroom. It is clear that there is full bathroom that is separate from the bedrooms, but that there is a sink and commode available. In addition, the video shows a step by step entrance into the property including the use of the bridge, ramp and spiral staircase. While someone with mobility issues would do well to stay elsewhere, that is VERY clear if you do your research and truly look at all of the information provided in the listing. We loved the Rock House and will definitely be back!! It had super easy access to Route 1 and, yet, was quiet and relaxing!! It was a great place to start the day and then travel to either the Upper or Lower Keys!! THANK YOU for a great stay!!

We 4 adults would have given this property 5 stars if the description had better prepared us for what we would find (see below). The house is wonderfully funky. We enjoyed the outdoor spaces (though didn't use the second floor balcony because of accessibility). There is good privacy, sun and shade options and pleasing vegetation. It was much more to our taste than staying in a modern condo. The owners are delightful and generously shared their waterfront patio with us. Happy hour at sunset overlooking the water was a real plus. Conch Key was a great location. It was a bit of a drive for groceries, but we were out and about every day anyway, and the ability to easily explore both north and south is great. We liked how small the Key is; virtually no traffic. All that said, we think the description is lacking in a couple of crucial areas. 1) While there are photos that show an uphill walkway to the master bedroom, nothing in the property description mentioned the challenge of this walk (or it being the only way to that bedroom), nor an outdoor spiral stair to the other bedroom or the humped bridge that served as the main walkway through the property. There are also awkward steps, without a railing, into the ground floor of the main house. One of our group has mobility limitations and these features caused significant challenges for him. Fortunately, there is a way around the humped bridge, though that passage is narrow with a very uneven surface. We were lucky that we could manage the terrain; had we known of it, we certainly would have had second thoughts about renting this house. And we can certainly envision less mobile guests who would be unable to manage. There needs to be a warning about this in the property description. 2) The description says there are 2 bathrooms. There is one (very small) bathroom with a shower on the ground floor of the main house. Each bedroom has a sink (with cold water only) and a toilet in the corner of the room. The master bedroom toilet has a small, movable screen that affords some privacy. The guest room has no screen for the toilet. Describing this setup as two bathrooms is misleading and sets visitors up for an unpleasant surprise. 3) We fixed breakfast and cooked dinner every night. We have stayed in a lot of VRBO properties and would not describe this kitchen as "great for guests who like to cook." It was fine in terms of space and appliances but only adequate re utensils and cooking gear. With the right expectations go

Owner response: Thank you for your response. We welcome them. This property is very different in its architecture as it was built with coral rock, by hand in the mid 1960's. That's what makes this location unique, enchanting, and very sought after. We provide a video showing the flow of the entrances and walkways. By including the video we feel it shows the layout and most everyone is able to determine whether this would be somewhat of a challenge if there is a physical limitation. As rental property owwwwwwwwners we take every safety precaution as we want our guests to have a memorable vacation. This is NOT a location to be wary of unless you have a physical limitation. Our kitchen has always been very well equipped, however, things disappear, wear out, etc..but we are constantly restocking and if there are special requests, we deliver. It's a great place to experience what the Keys is all about, the blue water, fishing, diving, sunrise, sunset, wildlife, sailing, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, strolling, biking, relaxing, and just being!

Four of us, two couples, stayed here March 5-March 12. The website does a good job depicting the property and amenities, but it was beyond our expectations. The newly renovated spaces are tastefully done with beautiful decorating. The property is truly a piece of art, unique and fascinating. Everyday we noticed something different and marveled at the creativeness of the man who built it. At night, the entire outside is surrounded with little white lights giving it a magical feel. The separate bedrooms are especially nice, giving couples the chance to be together but still have private space. The neighborhood is friendly but you have your own secluded retreat when here. If you are looking for something different, not your average cookie cutter hotel, this place is for you. We enjoyed a wonderful vacation and would recommend this property to active adults who want to experience something different. There are boat rentals, restaurants and shopping nearby. (The ladies loved all the Beall's Outlets.) The Butterfly Conservatory, Sunset Festival, Hemingway's Home and Red Fish Blue Fish Restaurant were among the things we enjoyed in Key West. Just contact Gerri! She is most pleasant and helpful

My husband and cat and I had a really wonderful time at the Rock House. We spent the whole month of January 2011 and absolutely enjoyed it . The sunsets across the street were beautiful and the owners Ron and Gerri were the best hosts ever. We enjoyed the rooms, the gardens , the lights, and especially the cat cage, really the aviary but I used it for cat babysitting, she loved to roam the property and chase the gekkos and the hermit crabs. We liked it sooo much we are heading back here again next year. The weather was good too for the most part, 80's and only a couple of wet days. We did not expect the owners to be as hospitable as they were, the pictures don't really do the place justice, it is soo much better. We enjoyed all the people we met too, everyone was very friendly, Thanks again Ron and Gerri.

As I sit and try to stay warm, I thought I would write a review of our stay at the "Rock House". This was our honeymoon destination and we were both overwhelmed by the generosity of our hosts. The house is very spacious and was very comfortable. All of the amenities were up to date and very clean. The location of staying on Conch Key, puts you very close to Marathon and not a far drive to Key West. My wife and I both think that the highlight was going across the street each evening and watching the sunset from the boat dock, then coming back to see the house all lit up and outlined in lights. Great place to take pictures as well. The weather was just right, so we took advantage of sitting on top of the porch and had our morning coffee and breakfast. In looking around, we found this property to be fairly priced compared to staying in a hotel or some of the other listings in this area. Our time there went by too fast as we really enjoyed our stay. The "Rock House" made our honeymoon very memorable and we're planning to stay there again in the future. If you are looking for a good places to eat, try Lazy Days in Marathon and The Wreck on Duck Key.

                  Owner info

                  Year Purchased: 2006

About the owner: My husband and I are Florida Natives residing part time on Conch Key and Daytona Beach where we are involved with our two children in a family business. We bought our dream house on Conch Key in 2004 and decided to purchase another property two years later, our rental location.

Why the Owner Chose Conch Key:
We love this island so much that we plan to retire here one day and wanted to have another business interest here.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
We can honestly and factually say that you will not find another location as unique as this one in the Florida Keys. It was constructed by the original owner, a king fisherman, in the mid sixties. There is a bird aviary on the property where he used to house homing pigeons that he raised. He collected cannons, anchors and misc maritime memorabilia. The property as a whole is a work of art including the antique bottles in the walls.
