Ever Dream of Really Getting Away – All the way back to the Basics? On a Private Mountain Top? With no traditional power, just like the old days?
The Cabin Ridge on Sugarloaf Mountain located on a mountain meadow near Hendersonville, NC, Lake Lure and Chimney Rock Park, holds the answer for your “times past, off-the-grid” getaway! Enjoy a unique and peaceful setting of rustic privacy and quiet seclusion. Experience the feeling of being alone on a mountain top surrounded by nature’s incredible beauty!
Go back to a time of no phones, no computers, no TVs. Listen to the birds, enjoy the rustic arbors and the gardens filled with herbs and flowers. Sit on the porch drinking in magnificent mountain views and spectacular sunsets. Fill your solar shower bag in the morning for a warm outdoor shower later in the day. In the evening enjoy sitting around a campfire, or just relax with lantern light and serenading night sounds.
The small, simple cabin at the edge of the field stands as a reminder that this sunny spot on the mountain was once the home of generations passed, when the work was hard but life less complicated – when there seemed to be more time to spend with each other - where most of the needs were met by caring for each other and the land called home.
What better place to put your cares aside, take some deep breaths and totally relax.!!
Surrounded by forests at an elevation of approx. 3300’ on 100+ acres, the busy hubbub of cities and roadways seems far away. Enjoy the quiet, explore the woods, hike the trails, daydream on a rock, sit in the shade by the spring, enjoy the onsite gardens, gaze at the moon and stars at night, but most of all, enjoy the amazing peace and solitude of this one-of-a kind mountain top retreat.
If you decide to venture off the mountain we are 25 minutes from the unique shops and restaurants of downtown Hendersonville, and 20 minutes from Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. Asheville, with all its historical and cultural influence, is a 35-45 minute drive. Close by is the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Biltmore House, Pisgah National Forest, and countless other attractions in the WNC mountains. Lots of information about surrounding attractions will be available at The Cabin Ridge.
As you wind up the mountain road lined with native rhododendrons and mountain laurels, you know the destination will be quiet and private. But only as the trees open up into the grassy hillside are you able to appreciate the beauty and tranquility you will experience at The Cabin Ridge on Sugarloaf Mountain.
Through the years this quiet, mountain-top setting has been a place for our family and friends to make beautiful memories. Sharing this unique setting with others makes it even more special! We hope to share it with you!

The Cabin Ridge is something special. My wife and I celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary here and just wanted to try something different. I must say I had extremely high expectations of this place prior to coming, I just had this idea in my head of how this whole experience would be. Everything was flawless. The only reason I even considered not giving this place 5 stars, would be to prevent it from becoming too popular - which would make it difficult to book future vacations...haha. But it's evident Andy puts a lot of work into this place and it would be a shame for it to not be enjoyed by those fortunate enough to find it. The price is in the same range as a typical hotel. You usually stay at a hotel (for shelter) while you go to your destination during the day...this IS the destination (if you want it to be). The view, the nature, the seclusion, the shower, the oil lamps, the peace & quite, the taste of how things once were...every little detail about this place made it an unforgettable memory we will always share (but we'll be back). Thank you Andy!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We were excited, and a bit apprehensive, as we approached The Cabin Ridge. When you find something online you never know if the reality will compare to the glowing descriptions and select photographs you see when booking. We were very happy to find that The Cabin Ridge actually exceeded our expectations! This is a beautiful property. The grounds are large, open, and gorgeous. The cabin is larger than we expected, absolutely immaculate, and contained everything we needed. My 5 year old son had a wonderful time running and exploring, catching salamanders, picking tomatoes and apples, visiting with the cows next door, and learning the art of toasting the perfect marshmallow. Mommy and Daddy were happy to have the "camping experience" with a bathroom and four walls for sleeping. The fresh mountain air and the solitude and peacefulness of the setting were rejuvinating. We came home refreshed and relaxed. Thank you Andy for being a wonderful hostess - and thank you for sharing this treasure with us! We will be back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

I have vactioned here twice now. Once with my adult daughter and once with my husband and 4 sons. Each trip was enjoyable and my daughter (who can't be without a computer or tv) actually enjoyed herself. My sons loved it and my husband was pleasantly surprised. We played games, played outside and spent some wonderful time together. The boys explored along the trails around the property and The shower is awesome!!! My 13 year old son said it was the best shower he had ever taken. When you stay at this place you really understand how captive you are in your everyday life and how free you feel on this mountain. It is close to Chimney Rock and Hendersonville and I would live here if andy would let me :-) 5 stars for this place. Will be going back real soon!!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

As soon as we arrived we fell in love with this cabin. The views are beautiful and we had a wonderful time doing nothing in particular except wandering around the property. We also enjoyed the proximity to several state parks/forests where we were able to do more hiking and climbing. We spent most of our days here outside before enjoying late afternoon outdoor showers then getting the whole cabin warm and cozy while cooking over the wood stove. I would recommend this cabin to absolutely everyone, your vacation can be as relaxing or as active as you choose to make it here.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: It is so rewarding to share this unique property with others! Whether a couple spending time together in a beautiful & private environment, a family with children experiencing a little history and finding joys in creating their own entertainment in the outdoors, a girls weekend in a place that fosters relaxation time, sharing, laughter, bonding, or folks who want to explore this beautiful area of WNC, The Cabin Ridge is a simpler place and time for making memories!

We have enjoyed our time so much that we have gone back twice already. The pictures do not do the property justice it is amazing. You feel as if you are on top of the world! Andrea met us there and answered all of our questions and showed us how to use everything. She has put so much time and energy into this property and it shows! It was an incredible experience for our kids to see what living is like without electricity....they loved using the pump in the kitchen to do dishes and they thought the outdoor solar shower was incredible as did I!!! We spent time hiking the trail on the property and watching sunset from lookout point. The kids picked apples from the trees and ran around and loved being there. It feels so safe and free being up on the secluded property with an amazing view. The cabin is clean and has enough comforts of home....The second time we took our tent and set that up outside to sleep out under the stars and listen to the owls hooting! We had smores around the fire at night and loved the view of the full moon rising over the top and then still visible over the mountains in the morning. My husband enjoys the awesome grill on the front porch and even built a fire in the kitchen so that I could cook on the old fashioned stove. If he was not in the mood we had the propane burners as well. We will be going back again soon!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Dear Andrea, it was so hard to go back home to Chicago after staying on your property! My wife Michele, along with Justin and Christina loved our "Family Time" spent on the mountain in your adorable cabin. The kids had a blast playing soccer / baseball / frisbee on the property, and filling the solar bags for our Outdoor Showers. That was just too cool. We were able to get in our daily hikes on your hiking paths through the woods that you told us about, and visited with the horses below the cabin. Our nights were filled with beautiful vivid stars that, for a moment you thought you can reach if you stretched out your arms to them. Very Peaceful and Relaxing. Thank you for sharing your place!Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

My girlfriend and I needed a get-a-way. We found the property to be as described and we enjoyed the peacefulness. The wind chimes added very much to the setting. The outside shower was an interesting experience- much warmer than we thought it might be. The trial we walked was nice. We didn't get to see the sun set but we did see the sun rise, and it was nice also. The lack of electricity was good for romantic evenings but we were grateful for the indoor flush toilet! It was cool in the evening but the cabin heated up quickly with the wood stove. We only wish we could have stayed for a few more days. This place is the perfect get-a-way spot for people who want something a little different!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

What a great experience! It was really beautiful and peaceful, and so refreshing to get away from all the traffic, the phones, the noise, the news - talk about a destresser! Having no power was even fun under these circumstances!! And I never thought I could take a shower in 2 1/2 gallons of water warmed by the sun, but that outdoor shower was one of my favorite parts! Thank you for a wonderful and different weekend that we will be talking about for a long time!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Owner info
About the owner: For years The Cabin Ridge has been a place for family gatherings. Whether we gathered for work or play or a special celebration, it has always been a place full of warm memories. This mountain top clearing and adjacent steeply wooded land has been in my family for generations. The cabin and the meadow was the homeplace of my grandparents when they married in the 1920s. Since that time the cabin has been rebuilt on the existing foundation and the grounds have herb and flower gardens instead of crops worked with mules and plows, but somehow the spirit of sharing and the feeling of peacefulness remains. The wood cookstove and the oil lanterns in the cabin make for an ambience all their own. Rhododendrons, Mountain Laurel and lots of wildflowers are just a look out the window, and watching sunsets from the porch is something not to miss. The flow from the spring that has provided water to the cabin all through the years still provides a great place to find salamanders and crawdads, and as the sun sets, the frogs join the katydids for a summer’s night chorus. For years it has been my passion to protect this wonderfully unique setting from development, to maintain a place for folks to step back into simpler times for a brief respite from the day-to-day hurry, and to be able to soak in the scenes, the sounds and the smells of the surrounding nature without distractions. My grandparents taught me that everything is more special when shared. It is my hope to be able to share the joys of this special place with many folks for many years.
