The house itself is very nice and well equipped. Immaculately clean. The surrounding neighbors are filthy, various rusty cars and equipment are strewn about the adjacent properties. Tiny ocean view and the "garden" views are pretty much a line of avocado trees that slightly veil yet another shabby neighbor. Great restaurant across the street but other than that you have to drive at least 10 minutes to get ANY supplies. Cool beaches across the street as well. In the winter time most of them are unswimable. Expect to pay at least 10-20% more for equipment rental on the north shore. We're having a good time but through tricky photography on the website the house seems twice the size it actually is. The outrigger canoe is only about 6 feet long is by no means a scale representation of the size of the house. The bedroom doors are about 3ft from one another making two couple romance all but impossible. The Parrish collection called several times to get my car rental info and them failed to leave the keys, we had to pick them up on our way, they refused to deliver them to our hotel. We won't be staying again.

Owner response: The North shore of Kauai is known for its natural beauty, great surf, rustic local charm, away-from-it-all location and neighborhood feel. There is no trick photography used on the web site and the professional photographs have been recently updated. We encourage guests to go to the Google map listed under Links and Videos and explore the neighborhood to see the proximity to the neighbors, town and beaches. Note that the Google images where the row of lava rocks are were taken before we added quite a bit of landscaping, which can be seen in our current photographs. We have several neighbors, two of which share our easement driveway off of the main road. Their cars get parked at their houses on the opposite side of the main drive. One of the homes is in the final stages of completion, so there are building materials temporarily stored under the house, which will be removed in the near future. From the lanai, 20 feet in the air, you can see several other homes. Our neighbors are nice, friendly people and we have a great relationship with them. The listing states that there are partial ocean views, which can be seen in the photographs. The perimeter of the yard is full of trees. A line of trees taller than the house runs behind and around one side of the property to the road. On the other edge of the yard is a stretch of palm trees and a hedge that lines much of the shared driveway except for the opening to get into our private area. As mentioned in the description, the home is 1,400 square feet. The outrigger canoe is a decoration and not meant for scale. The listing also indicates that the closest town is Hanalei, 10 minutes away, which has two grocery stores, great restaurants and quaint shops. In the years we have used The Parrish Collection, we have never received anything but wonderful comments about their service and helpfulness during visitor's stays. Most guests go out of their way to let us know directly how supportive The Parrish Collection was during their time on the island.

It is clear that a lot of thought went into designing and decorating this lovely house, which is perfectly situated for a relaxing retreat. The house is about as close as you can get to the Napali coast and excellent beaches, and not too far from very complete shopping at Princeville (as well as Sunshine Helicopters that gave us a wonderful tour of the island). We cooked meals actively while there and found the kitchen very usable, but were also delighted by the very homey and personal luau available across the street at the Mediterranean Gourmet (excellent food). Though we had most of what we needed with us, it seemed everything we might have wanted for beach or picnic was provided for our use. The excellent, and quiet washer and dryer made washing clothes very convenient. By the time we left it felt like home.

My husband and I came here for our honeymoon and had an awesome time. The house was perfect for a secluded getaway, yet still close enough for a quick car ride to get groceries or go out to dinner, or you can walk across the street for great food and even a luau every Tuesday night (must see, great food..... Did I mention walk). Besides the proximity of some of the best sights on the island, the house itself actually makes it hard to leave. On a rainy day it is just nice to sit in the living room for a movie marathon with a great view of palm trees and the ocean outside. Best of both worlds. It's also nice to get some great fruits and veggies from the farmers market and just cook a romantic dinner for two. The kitchen is FULLY stocked with pots pans utensils. Dining out every night can get pricey on the island. The decor of the house is incredible, with huge attention to the smallest details. Short walk to secluded section of beach as well and the house has beach toys, umbrellas, chairs, boogie boards etc. to use. A definate must see home If your thinking about traveling to kauai. This house beats any hotel I've ever stayed in!

We just returned from a memorable week spent in this fabulous home. The location is excellent very quiet and peaceful and just a short stroll from the beach . It was a two minute drive from tunnels beach where we spent our days hiking picnicking , snorkeling with the turtles and absorbing the beautiful views. The experience was made so easy because all of the beach equipment is supplied with the house...a quite an amazing array of gear from beach umbrellas to flippers/ snorkels beach chairs coolers....you name it! The house is wonderful and just as we'll equipped. we look forward to returning. The agency that runs this house 'The Parish collection ' are as good as it gets. Many thanks Robert and Ann

This review is will be short and to the point. My wife and I chose this house due to it's location and seclusion from the tourist side of the island. We were able to do everything that tourists get to do (fire breathing luau, lounge on the beach, helicopter ride) and go back to the hideaway for absolute peace and quiet. You really cannot put a price on the peace and quiet. We lost all interest in our electronics and social media and had laughter filled conversations. We were able to reconnect after the stress of the wedding and really remember why we fell in love and got married in the first place. It was the most wonderful time of or lives. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to live the hawaii lifestyle without the hassle of Hotel living. This house was clean, orderly, and without flaw.

The tropical bamboo hideaway made my honeymoon more than I could of asked for!! Everything was at our fingertips! A walk across the street got you to a great place to eat or a nice place to lay in the sand with your toes in the warm water. Everything was so close while feeling we were the only ones on the island. The binder the owners leave is FULL of anything and everything to do. We went on a helicopter ride, went paddle boarding, surfing, zip lining, snorkeling, all the way to a relaxing glass of wine on the beach while watching the sunset. And the house, oh the house! AMAZING!! Spacious rooms, comfortable beds, wrap around deck, kitchen full of anything and everything you may need, an outdoor grill, elevator, and even the decor is done just so perfectly!! The tropical bamboo hideaway made our honeymoon more than I could of ever dreamed! It made some amazing memories for us already and many more anniversary memories to come. Thank you for everything! It truly meant to world to us staying at a place the felt so warm, cozy, and safe! Thank you!

Wow! What a beautiful place to call home this week. We are celebrating my 30th birthday and the Tropical Bamboo Hideaway was a truly magical place. Snorkeling at Tunnels, hiking Waimea Canyon, hiking up Mt. Waialeale and BBQ-ing fresh fish from Hanalei Fish Market made for a perfect trip.

What a beautiful home. It was exactly as promised in the listing and even the great website couldn’t do it justice. The views were awesome, the multiple sliding doors and windows made the inside feel like outside. All the amenities were perfect, I didn't know there were so many movies made in Kauai, and the little things like soft sheets, fluffy towels, paper goods, zip lock bags for snacks and even a couple of AA batteries for my camera (saved a trip into town thanks:)). The decor looked like it was out of a designer magazine, and the elevator made the move in and out much easier. The beach across the street was a really nice spot, yet we were minutes to the end of the road beach and saw some of the most beautiful sunsets. The Luau on Tuesday at the Mediterranean Gourmet was really a delight, and seemed to be very authentic (not like the tourist magazine version we went to on Maui). Any of the restaurants in Hanalei would be a good choice, but the Sushi at the Dolphin was to die for. I guess as you can tell by my review, I would strongly recommend this tropical oasis.

The house has been a beautiful delight! We have appreciated the many decorative details throughout, making it really an expression of personal artistic taste. There was significant rain throughout our visit; having a wonderful place to stay – where being indoors was a delight itself – made each day nice – rain or shine! Thank you for the opportunity of enjoying your home.

Our stay at the Bamboo House was amazing...a one of a kind experience! Whether sitting up in the trees with the sun shining and breeze blowing or cuddled inside with the rain falling and the geckos chirping, we loved every minute. There are lots of great hiking trails and beaches all nearby...and great restaurants just a short drive a way. After a long day of hiking or swimming, it was so great to come back to the bamboo house and be welcomed by the luxuries of home...upscale bedding and linens, fabulous spa products, all new kitchen appliances...and even an amazing movie library...all really nice touches. We'll definitely be back soon!

The Tropical Bamboo Hideaway served as a heavenly reunion site for my Swiss friend of forty-four years and me. In 1976, we were trip co-leaders with the Experiment in Int'l. Living. In the years that followed, we built a friendship that has kept us connected. The first adventure that we planned was a trip to the Hawaiian Islands in the summer of 1979, when we both had a teachers' break. Neither of us had ever been there, so we decided to camp for one week on each of the four main islands. We had such wonderful memories of our adventures during that month long ago that we decided that a reunion in Hawaii was long overdue! Now that we fall into the category of "senior citizens", we graduated from camping to the lap of luxury at the TBH! From the first moment when we set foot inside the home, high above the ground, we were awestruck over the bamboo construction and the ways in which the owners have tastefully-decorated each room, with artifacts included to connect one with Hawaii's lifestyle. I particularly enjoyed the wrap-around deck, along with all of the glass slider doors giving easy access to the out-of-doors, where I enjoyed a variety of new bird calls, as well as the breaking of the waves on the beach, both day and night. We continued to marvel at the complete supply of "creature comforts" that the owners had supplied for guests throughout their home, as well as the outdoor locker, provided with an abundance of sports and outdoor equipment for our use. In summary, I would return to TBH in a heartbeat. Its location at the remote North Shore of Kauai gave me the feeling of a peaceful, healing, stress-free setting, yet where one can get to conveniences when desired....a perfect combination in my mind!

From the Guest Book: We have been to Kauai many times, but this is our first time staying on the North Shore and the first time renting a house. We and our teenage boys were enchanted by the Tropical Bamboo Hideaway. The house is beautifully crafted and we love that you filled it with art. It had everything we needed for a perfect stay, from all of the beach gear to the wonderful bath products. We are so glad to have had the TBH as our base to explore the North Shore – from Ke’e to Tunnels to all of the “secret” beaches – the book you provided “The Ultimate Guide to Kauai” was invaluable for finding all of the local treasures. Mahalo!

We loved our house and did not want to go home! It is so beautiful. And had everything we needed. Because it is high on stilts and all bamboo it helps you to feel that you really are in Hawaii. Neighbors close , as they are all around the Island but very quiet, and the lush trees divided the view of some of them. very convenient idea to have packet waiting at car rental. But we did not have our key in it though and had to call but the problem was remedied quickly. i would recommend anyone who is a light sleeper who stays anywhere on the island to have earplugs as the roosters run wild and crow starting at 4 a.m. but my husband slept right through it. The only thing that would make it better is if it was right on the beach but then it would be too costly to stay. We went thru the resort property across the street to go to the beach but in the winter the waves are very high and current strong so it is a short drive to the calmer beach for swimming , not even a mile, so you could walk. . But we could hear the waves which was perfect if you are not all about the beach and want to sit and watch the amazing waves and hear the power of them. The deck is amazing! it wraps the whole house. Fans in every room and large windows and sliding doors in every room to keep you comfy. Beach gear and towels provided. Loved that boogie boards goggles and fins were there. Even sand pails and shovels for children. you thought of everything. We had stayed in Maui in a fancy resort, but enjoyed this much better. Quieter when you want it. Or you could go out and find fun too. We love the smaller quieter island. Couldnt wait to get back to our bamboo house and relax each night. The fruit stands are quite expensive for the fruit being grown on the island. A resident told us to go to Costco and buy it cause it is grown locally there and instead of six dollars for a pineapple you can get two for that price and other fruit at Costco that is grown on the island. There is a Taco Bell, Burger king, McDonalds, Safeway foods, a Macys believe it or not, but the rest of the island is pretty authentic. We loved it and will be back.

From The Tropical Bamboo Hideaway guest book: I love being up in the trees and the pink clouds at sunrise were often so lovely I'd scoot out of bed to get my camera. We did all of the best activties - snorkeling near Tunnels beach, hiking the Na Pali coast trail, visiting local farmer's markets and photographing the most gorgeous scenery imaginable. I will have over 1000 photos after this vacation. The town is full of color and the beaches are fabulous. The Bamboo house is so lovely and interesting. I ponder how it was consturcted. It seems intricate and well designed - it is like artwork to me.Thank you for a great house!

This is a totally unique house in a really lush area on Kauia. Very peaceful setting! Ocean views from the porch, main living area, and second bedroom. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The house is really beautiful and so unique - the whole house is constructed from bamboo, but it has modern bathroom and kitchen amenities. We walked right across the street to the beach (accessed via the resort property), and also took short drives both north and south to many other nearby beaches - most of them were deserted! This is definitely the area of Kauia to visit if you want peace and quiet, but activities are close at hand too - next time we're definitely taking a helicopter tour :). We ate at many of the nicer restaurants when we were there (Mediterranean Grill, which you can walk to, and also Bar Acuda and Postcards in Hanalei), but there are plenty of low-key restaurants in Hanalei too. The kitchen is fully equipped if you wanted to cook.

We enjoyed staying in the Bamboo hideaway, a few short minutes from bustling Hanalei. It was fabulous. The building is modern and very well designed. It had all of the normal amenities, such as full kitchen and updated baths. The entertainment system provided all the media and network access one could want. The owner was very helpful; confirming the reservation, ensuring the place was ready when we arrived, suggesting some fun things to do which were right on, and her take on food is consistent with what we found on the island. We really liked staying there and would do it again!

After staying at the Tropical Bamboo Hideaway, we know the beauty and grace of Kauai. This charming place offers a sweet view of the ocean and waves at a distance in a serene setting. The peace we experienced there was spectacular. Everything you could want or need is provided. There is a short walk to a great beach for a lazy afternoon of watching the sand crabs and waves or a quick drive to great swimming beaches. We loved the romantic feel of the bamboo hideaway too. Nearby restaurants were terrific; like the Bar-Acuda and the Hanalei Dolphin. It was a fabulous stay and we even came back engaged to be married! That is how romantic is was!! We loved our trip and highly recommend this beautiful place with all its Kauai charm. Thank you for the availability of this rental. It was a grand unique experience!

From the Guest Book: This is our third time to Kauai and since we had admired the Tropical Bamboo Hideaway from the road many times, we were very excited about seeing the interior – WOW! – It exceeded our expectations. We cook, so we really appreciated the well-equipped kitchen – even sharp knives! We were tired, so the comfortable beds and bedding were wonderful. We were amazed at all of the windows that don't miss a view!
