Mendoscenic Ridge, set in beautiful Anderson Valley, enjoys 24 rolling acres filled with oaks, redwoods, Douglas fir and nothing but the company of deer, swallows and the occasional flock of wild turkey. If desired, one can go for days without hearing the sound of cars, voices or ringing cell phones. However, it is just as easy to break the solitude. Noteworthy vineyards such as Navarro, Golden Eye, Handley, Roederer, Husch, Greenwood Ridge, to name a few, are within a ten-minute driving distance. There is fishing, swimming and kayaking on the Navarro River. The Boonville Hotel, the Ledford House, the Heritage House, the Albion River Inn offer Mendocino style fine dining.
Mendoscenic Ridge offers comfortable farmhouse style accommodations including a wood burning stove and two spacious decks where one can eat al fresco or just enjoy the view during the day and the stars at night. Two bedrooms, each with a queen bed, share an updated bathroom and an updated fully equipped kitchen.
An old oak tree dating back at least a hundred years stands guard in the middle of the main deck from which one can have an unencumbered view of the hills, the small vineyard below and a grove of young olive trees. The wooded peace and tranquility of Mendoscenic Ridge are simply hard to duplicate.

We spent a week at this location. Quiet and remote which was what we were looking for. Yet it was an easy commute to town. We felt the main drawback was that the available bedrooms were small, dark, and dank.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, pet owners.
Owner response: Thank you for remembering to post a review after two years. According to our records, you stayed with us on Dec 25, 2010-Jan 1, 2011. (We had no bookings in Jan 2012.) Unfortunately, that was also one of the worst rainy winters in the area. Sorry that your rooms were not comfortable. A heat pump that has been installed in the living area helps to keep the house dry even on those wet winter days.

I have spent several tremendous weekends and holidays at this Mendocino retreat and have thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a great getaway from life in the San Francisco area and provides a serene place to find yourself, enjoy quality time with family and friends, and explore wilderness trails through the redwoods, vineyards and olive orchard. Although the lodging is updated and modern, the surrounding acreage is essentially natural and undisturbed. I found it to be an ideal spot for serenity, quiet time and cook-outs, as well as providing nearby access to the shore, quaint towns, golf, wine-tasting and fine-dining. It reminded me of a nice blend of New England and California coastal ambiance. I recommend it for families, romantic getaways, hiking, biking and other nature adventures.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, adventure seekers.

My husband and I spent last weekend relaxing and unwinding at this charming retreat. The air was fresh and the sky was clear--we'd never seen that many stars at night before! The house is exactly as it's described in the website. It was spotless and had everything we needed for a comfy stay. The kitchen was well-equipped and the bathroom was super clean. The best part was having our meals under the old oak tree taking in the beautiful scenery. Location-wise, it was perfect. Mountains, hills, forests, lakes--all right there! We also enjoyed wine tastings in some great vineyards nearby--Navarro, Roederer and Handley. If we'd wanted, we also could have gone horseback-riding or hiked on some nature trails nearby, but we were too busy relaxing. The owners were great as they were very friendly and accommodating. They gave us a detailed rundown on the things to do and the places to go in the area. They were very easy to deal with and we always felt comfortable asking them whatever questions we had regarding our stay. All in all, we had a great weekend in a beautiful place. We will definitely be back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

We've stayed at this property a number of times and have enjoyed ourselves each time. The first time was with my wife and 6 month old. . . one of our first trips as a new family for the 4th of July. It was great to hear only the rustling of leaves, chirping of the birds and our baby's laughter as we sat on the deck. We even got to do some wine tasting all together. Another time was with just my wife and I where we enjoyed more wine tasting, hiking, relaxing, a home style meal in town and hanging with locals. Again it was great to hear only the rustling of leaves & chirping of the birds. . . without the baby crying. The final trip was with my wife, 3 year old and 2 year old. A bit more challenging of an experience, but the property allowed us to enjoy some time walking through the tree groves, up and down the rolling hills and explore in the vineyard. All in all, it felt like home for my family.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Why the Owner Chose Philo:
Anderson Valley is both remote and accessible. We can get to it in a couple of hours from the Bay area yet it is an absolute getaway. Once here, one can feel the stress of the city melt away. We are also wine lovers, and this area is known for some of the best pinot noir around. The tasting rooms have a very relaxed atmosphere, and the area has a small town feel.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
At Mendoscenic Ridge, one can easily lose track of time. There are no constant reminders to keep up with what's going on in the world. The only schedule that applies is the one you set for yourself. It is a place for winding down and for renewal.
