Chatham house description
Beautiful, large, period colonial house in historic Malden Bridge, NY, in the heart of the Hudson River Valley's horse country and historic Shaker landscape. Located in one of Columbia County's most scenic areas, the house is just down the street from the Old Chatham Sheepherding Company, and the former Shaker Museum. Centrally located near the Berkshires with its great cultural activities including Tanglewood and skiing in winter, this is the heart of the Hudson River Valley.
Set on the Kinderhook Creek, enjoy early morning fly fishing-- the house overlooks gardens and the river, with patios and covered porches on different levels. With wide antique pumpkin pine floors, the home is furnished with comfortable antiques, and is an easy place to relax. The house is on three levels with the lowest floor having access to driveway, the open floor plan room has a wall of glass doors overlooking the creek, and has a large updated kitchen that is well equipped. There are two levels of sleeping rooms above. A children's playroom is at the center of three bedrooms on the top floor. Very large master bedroom and another bedroom on the second floor. Powder room on first floor, bath with shower on 2nd, and shower on 3rd.
The property adjoins the hamlet's post office, the 2nd oldest in NY State, as part of an old mill complex.
Nearby is the gourmet Old Chatham Country Store, a great place for breakfast and lunch all week, and dinner on weekends. Also Jacksons, for a convivial bar scene and dining. Chatham is nearby with a classic old movie house showing first run pictures, and great shopping. Hudson with lots of antique shops and dining choices is within a half hour drive.
This is a year round rental -- a great escape in summer, with apple picking and pumpkin farms and hiking for the autumn, and lots of nearby skiing in winter.

2nd Great wknd here...
2nd Great wknd here...
Just back from our 2nd visit, the first was in the summer, when we walked down to the creek, ate meals on the back porch, caught fireflies etc. This recent ski wknd was lovely, as was the wood burning stove and the proximity to skiing. Went with 2 other families w/kids, room enough for all, it was a great weekend.

Lovely house, great area
Lovely house, great area
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay in Malden Bridge. It's a charming old house with interesting antique furnishings, in a very beautiful part of Columbia County. We enjoyed dining at the Old Chatam Country Store a couple of miles down the road, and exploring the area by car and by bike. Would definitely consider renting it again.
