The Hawkweed is a special place

My husband an I have stayed at the Hawkweed for two years in a row, we love it! The owners are nice and easy to deal with. The cottage is just the right size for a summer getaway, it is simple and clean - not overly filled with unnecessary things. The location is great, with a nice State Park (great place to swim) and just a down the road, and Rockland is very close. The yard and porch are great for morning coffee or reading a book in the sun with a beautiful view. Bring your kayaks - you can go right from the back yard and explore the cove. It is a special little place!
Owner response:The Hawkweed Cottage seems to provide guests with just what they need. Being at waters edge is so therapeutic and in any weather it is just beautiful. Vacations should be easy and fuss free. Sandy feet, wet paws, no problem! Come back time and again and enjoy.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, sightseeing, pet owners.
Nice location (secluded and overlooking a quiet harbor) and near things to do

We stayed at Hawkweed in August of 2010. The location is nice -secluded and quiet. Close to Rockland and Camden so there's lots to do away from the property. The owner was easy to deal with. Honestly, we (parents and a 12 year old) were a little disappointed when we first got there. We actually thought of going home. The house is smaller than expected and unfinished in areas (insulation hanging out etc.). It reminded me more of a hunting lodge than a vacation home. The deck is the best part of the house. You can sit on the deck and watch the lobster boats come and go -that was nice. The description lists a large yard but it was smaller than we expected. There are roughly 20? steps leading down to a grassy /muddy / rocky shore (typical for the area). You could launch your kayak from here but it would be a haul getting it back up. Doable but not what you might expect. However, there is a beautiful park (one of the nicest I've seen) a short drive away. That was really special -quintessential Maine. There is a small general store about 15 minutes (driving) down the road. We enjoyed parts of our stay for the most part but will not repeat Hawkweed.
Owner response:We are sorry to hear that our guest was not entirely satisfied. In 8 years we have not had any unfavorable reviews. More than half our guests are repeats. Each year we try to make improvements and upgrades to the cottage in order to provide value; we are not the Samoset! We wish this traveler better luck somewhere else next year.

If you're looking for a comfortable place that feels like home, this is it! The back deck was the livingroom for us. It's very quiet and private. We went kayaking from the back yard. The cottage was exceptionally clean and the owners were great to deal with. We would definately rent Hawkweed again.

We stayed for several days with our two young children. This was a perfect location for us as there was a yard for them to play in and a large deck. Also privacy for mom & dad since there's 3 bedrooms. Husband went kayaking from back yard. Our oldest (4 1/2) cried when we left - she wants to move to the little cottage in Maine!
