Perched perfectly on the side of the Blue Ridge, and one hour north of Winston-Salem, awaits your perfect log cabin escape... Blackbeary Lane. Completed in 2010 and named for the local black bears and the abundance of blackberrys on the property, this spacious and luxurious new retreat boasts four comfortable bedrooms and three full baths with 180 degree breath-taking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Piedmont Triad, and Pilot Mountain. Located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, our community boasts two ponds, streams, a covered bridge and waterfall!
From our property, on a clear day, the skyline of Winston-Salem gleams in the sunshine. Pilot Mountain steals the show planted directly in front of the deck, dead center in the horizon. Completed in 2010, our cozy cabin sleeps 12 comfortably.
The covered private deck adds outdoor living space with nearly 1,000 sq. feet of feet-friendly Trex decking with inviting hammock, table and chairs. Spend hours on the deck enjoying our phenomenal 180 degree view of the Piedmont with your morning coffee, the splendor of Fall, or the spectacular night time skyline.
For the person with allergies, all our floors are wormy Red Oak hardwoods, laminate 'barnstyle' hardwoods or tile.. you'll find no carpet... but plenty of rugs in our cedar log cabin. For the gourmet cook, you'll find every utensil, pot and appliance needed, as well as granite countertops! Every comfort has been considered in furnishings, décor and functional design, with a rustic lodge theme.
Deer watching can be a sport off our deck... and the fawns are out with the does all summer long. They wait patiently for the feeder to go off every evening at 7 p.m. Or feed the 2 foot long pet catfish at the pond up the hill. Maybe spend a lazy day fishing off the deck of the second neighborhood pond or hiking up the waterfall beside the pond. Drive a half hour to Fries and plan a day canoeing or tubing the New River.
Whatever way you choose to spend your days at Blackbeary Lane, plan to come home refreshed and renewed... You may discover a new relaxed side of yourself you didn't know existed!
Our escape is perfect for families, groups, and retreats. Check out our video link elsewhere on this listing.

My friends and I went to Blackberry Lane for a girls' weekend getaway. This cabin is spectacular in every way... the view and the home. We enjoyed a crackling fire every night and had a fabulous informal lunch on the deck admiring the view. Thanks, Ashley and Kevin, for a wonderful stay!!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Several "old" high school classmates getting together for the weekend. Cabin was perfect to accomodate all 7 of us. Can accomodate more! Ashley is so helpful in providing info on all things pertaining to the cabin and the area. Your cabin is beautiful and the views are astounding! On Friday we had snow/ice, Saturday was foggy/cloudy and then on Sunday we realized what everyone else mentioned about the views! Simply breathtaking! The reason for the "good" rating would be that a renter has lots to do during your stay. Most items on the list are common sense and being good renters we would expect most people would do them anyway. We had some trouble with the stripping the beds of linens and taking the trash off. While we understand the owners aren't close by and have to rely on others to take care of certain things we also understand that we paid a higher fee for your cleaning lady and these items could be handled by her/him. Thank goodness one of us drove a truck! Let me state that we paid Ashley before the rental agreement was presented to us or we would have known of all the stipulations beforehand,. That being said, we all had a wonderful time and appreciate Ashley and Kevin opening their home for us to stay. May you and your family have many years of happiness on the mountain!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Glad your group had a wonderful time, Karen. I did want to respond to your comment regarding the trash. Actually, if you review your rental contract that you signed before sending any funds, and making your decision to rent, it addresses the trash there. And do apologize you felt inconvenienced to remove the bed sheets. It just helps the cleaning lady when 7 sets of sheets are already ready for her to start, as it takes many hours to do sheets. Actually, all the cabins I know of in our area have the same policy, as I borrowed theirs when writing ours. And I always have to do that at rental homes at the beach every summer. Hope you can come again. We appreciate your stay.

The scenery along the route to Blackbeary Lane, once we left I-81, was exceeded only by the view as we stepped onto the porch and into the house. Wow! It's truly a 180-degree view and just magnificent. We gathered our children, daughters-in-love and 3 grandchildren for a long weekend. The home was clean and well-kept. We wouldn't describe the area as brimming with "things to do/tourist spots." But our goal was to be together as a family. We enjoyed cooking and eating, playing games, and going outside a bit. Pretty cold and windy, but great. The first morning, we woke up in the master BR and thought we heard a grandchild crying ... but it was the wind, howling around the house. Cool! Though chilly, we were able to sit on the porch in the sun: nice! We all agreed we wouldn't want to drive those roads in winter ... very steep. One minor suggestion is the need for space for visitors' food/kitchen stuff. We had to pile it all on the kitchen counters, since the cabinets are fairly full. Maybe one cabinet kept empty? And we agree with other visitors - that coffee table is beautiful, but a hazard! But the home is fabulous and warm. Thank you!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My wife and I stayed at this site for 3 nights. The cabin is beautiful, comfortable, well decorated and spotless. As the listing indicates, it is fairly new. It is well-built and nicely maintained, and it is very obvious that the owners put a lot of thought in its design and layout. The photos listed on the VRBO site accurately represent the present condition of the cabin. The cabin is situated on a mountain with a tremendous southerly view of the piedmont. The view is as good as it gets. If you have the opportunity to stay at this cabin, I guarantee that you will (weather permitting) spent alot of time on the deck enjoying the view. The cabin is located on what looked to be a dead-end road and the nearest cabin is approximately 200 yards or more away. Very private and peaceful. We saw no other people during our stay, but did see deer around the cabin on a daily basis. Also heard a turkey at sunrise gobbling back at crows that were calling. When we weren't at the cabin, we spent time in Mtn. Airy, at the art galleries in Floyd and visiting several of the local vineyards. All of them are located within 25-30 miles of the cabin. Ashley recommended the Harvest Grill at Shelton Vineyards for dinner - it was excellent. Also had a good meal at13 Bones in Mtn. Airy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin and already have plans to return again next year. You will not go wrong renting this place. Thank you Kevin and Ashley for allowing us to rent this special place.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much for your kind words. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to hosting you again next year! Best wishes! Kevin and Ashley

This was a wonderful cabin couldn't have asked for a better view or a more beautiful well kept and furnished cabin. I would not recommend this cabin to those with big road bikes as the driveway is very steep. We had to make sure we were to the cabin before dark each night.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Glad you enjoyed the cabin and my favorite view on Earth. You must have meant to say the development roads are steep as our driveway is level. Thank you for your feedback and I'll be sure to let others that make inquiries with motorcycles that it is not a good grade coming in for them. This was helpful info as we don't own motorcycles. We do have some trade-offs to get our stunning view...but if you are driving a vehicle there are no issues. Thanks!

This was the perfect location for a family reunion, with members coming from three states as well as overseas!! It was everything we hoped it would be, and more, The ages ranged from 2 years to 60 plus, and it was comfortable and adaptable for all our needs. We especially enjoyed our coffee on the deck in the morning, watching the sun come up. The views were magnificent. We were also blessed with a full moon during our stay. We cooked in the great kitchen most of the time. As grandparents, we gave the adult kids a couple meals out without lille ones. They enjoyed 13 Bones and East Coast Wings. The well equipped kitchen providedeveryting we needed, including a crock pot and a cook book that we utilized. The grandchildren especially enjoyed the fishing trip to the pond, as everyone caught something!! We did some hiking, exploring the area, antique shopping and just plain enjoying each other's company since we are all scattered. A special treat with the Blue Ridge Music Center and museum in Galax, just down the parkway 15 miles. Free music offered from noon to 4 PM during the summer. There was also a special nature trail there which we all enjoyed. Every inquiry to the homeowners was answered promptly and they provided a wealth of information regarding the surrounding area was very helpful. We feel like we just got a taste of the many things to do in the area. Everyone would like to return to the same place next year!! Thank you for providing a lovely place for us to reconnect.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Ashley. just wanted to send you a quick note to let you know how much we enjoyed our days in the mountains at your place ... it was absolutely wonderful! We loved the view from the deck and the way you've taken such care in decorating and furnishing your "cabin". It was just beautiful and we had a great time. Just wish we would have had more time to luxuriate and just hang out there! We never have enough time when we come to Virginia. We did take the time to wander around the neighborhood and so enjoyed waterfall and the covered bridge... took some pics of those and may try to send them when I get them on the computer. I do hope we'll be able to come back and stay again. ... the fall view from your deck would be breathtaking I'm sure!!!!! Thank you again!!!!! It was a memorable vacation for sure. Have a great day!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: So glad you guys had a great time and you are wlecome again anytime! Thanks for taking the time to let people know how special it is in Fancy Gap! Life is BETTER in the mountains!! =)

My group of 14 bicyclists used Blackberry Lane and 1 neighborhood rental house for a 4 night stay in Fancy Gap as part of a week long trip in the Blue Ridge Mountains. 10 people (2 couples, 1 female, and 5 males) stayed very comfortably in the 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. The indoor common areas (main and lower levels) are ample and nicely appointed. The southern views to the Piedmont are outstanding. We particularly enjoyed evening meals with the entire 14 person team at the dining table and the adjacent outdoor deck. We enjoyed a nice evening at the fire ring telling stories and replaying our cycling adventures.Recommended for: Adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thanks so much for taking time to review our property. We hope we can host your group again one day. We're really glad you had a great time. =)

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Blackbeary Lane in late June. The cabin was as advertised and the owners were very easy to work with. Most of our time was spent on the wonderful covered deck gazing at the spectacular views of the valley below and the distant mountains. The cabin had everything we needed and was very comfortable. We cooked our own meals most of time and enjoyed eating at the dinning table and on the deck. The secluded location gave us a great excuse to play board and card games that we had not played in years. This is a great place to bond with your family. We found a nice walking path in the town of Hillsville. It starts right next to the courthouse. Nice little town too. We also enjoyed the Blue Ridge Parkway and listended to some early American folk music at the music center on the Parkway one afternoon. This is a place we would come back to and would recommend to others.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: Hello and welcome! Lifelong Carolina residents... my husband and I have built our dream cabin nestled next to the Blue Ridge Parkway and long range views, just an hour from our home in North Carolina... We can't wait to share it with you!
Why the Owner Chose Fancy Gap:
We spent several years driving off of the byways and quaint streets of the Blue Ridge Parkway, searching for that PERFECT homesite for our dream cabin. A few years ago, on my 40th birthday, we happened up THE PERFECT LOT, with a 180 degree view of the Piedmont, no neighbors, a 10 to 15 degree temperature drop from our home in Winston-Salem, trees and such a gentle slope that we could have a nice yard. We fell in love with the unique personality of Fancy Gap and the amenities of nearby Galax and the New River. And of course, everyone hundreds of thousands attend the annual Hillsville Flea Market on Memorial and Labor Day weekends... 20 minutes but worlds away from our cabin, located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
* Peacefulness * Solitude * Time to reflect and renew! The deer typically wait on the feeder to throw out their corn at 7 p.m. in the evenings... the hummingbirds fight over their feeder, and the 2 foot catfish love to fight over the chips we feed them nightly in the pond up the hill from our home. Waterfall climbing is a super way to spend the afternoon near the second pond in the neighborhood.
