We started coming to Costa Rica around six years ago, on a surf trip. We loved it so much, and the surfing was so beautiful (for our entire family), and the people so warm, and the land and sea and sky so blissful, we searched for a house of our own, so we could come back over and over again. We found this house in the sweetest little town/village - Esterillos Oeste - which hasn't been overrun by tourism or development. The town boasts two sweet beachfront bar/restaurants. A great 'gourmet' restaurant. A little surf shop. And small market. The tourism is quite limited to those renting beach houses. And the locals (in the water, and out) are about the friendliest people in the world.
The house sits right on the sand. With palm trees out the front door. We've landscaped the place with lush gardens of ginger and orchids and palmettos. There are four huge bedrooms, some with kings, some with queens, and one with two twin beds. Each one, air conditioned. Downstairs there is a full kitchen and a bar area as well as a sitting room with a day bed. There are three bathrooms in the big house. A dining room inside, and a picnic table dining area on the covered patio (with hanging candle chandelier). Outside, in back is a beautiful pool with separate child wading pool. And a covered rancho with bar and bar-b-q.
One of the nicest parts of the house is the separate bungalow. Just far away and private enough. But still part of the villa. It's own little kitchen, bathroom and one bedroom suite. With sliding glass doors that open onto the pool area.
The whole house is beach friendly. Don't be afraid of tracking sand inside. It's all tile. White and brilliant Azul. We made the house as welcoming and relaxing as we could for our own family and friends. You and yours will love every minute you spend here. There is a local couple - Lydia and Marco - who care for the house. Gardening, cleaning, even cooking if you like. They are as beautiful as the house is.

Just got back from a week at this absolutely beautiful villa. The property mangers Dave and Kate were extremely helpful and knowledgable. The pictures do not do this place justice - you have to see it for yourself! I highly recommend this to anybody who is looking to get away from it all and RELAX.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We had 6, ranging from 11 to 71 staying at the house. Plenty of room inside, nice backyard, we dipped into the pool each day. Every day we heard a rooster next door and scarlet macaws. Turns out several macaws lived in the trees right in front of the house. Beautiful birds. Beach was beautiful - it has a change of 11 feet from high tide to low tide, so we were able to experience a full range of activities on the beach. Hardly anyone there. Walked down to the mermaid statue, where people were surfing. The house stayed cool and comfortable. Just a great way to be at a beach, and the price was right. There are a couple of fine restaurants in Esterillos Oeste - ask Dave to point them out. Also, only about 40 minutes from Manuel Antonio National Park. Handy locatin.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My wife, young daughter, mother and mother-in-law all accompanied me on our amazing trip to Costa Rica, and Casa Del Suenos. This home, and the town it is in, is absolute paradise. We drove ourselves from San Jose airport, and following the directions from Dave and Kate, met them at exactly the expected time. They were very helpful, both before and during our stay here, and even arranged a fishing trip with a local fisherman, which I would highly recommend. The pictures on here of the home do not do it justice, as in reality, it is far more beautiful. The home is well maintained, and perfectly located. The backyard has lots of privacy, and we really enjoyed the pool! With both a shallow end and a deep end separated by a wall, it is perfect for children and families. My daughter is almost 3, and she learned to swim while we were there! This is also an excellent jumping off point for day trips. We were able to easily drive to Manuel Antonio park in less than an hour, spent an afternoon wandering through Jaco beach, drove to the mangroves for a monkey tour. Do the monkey tour, if nothing else, it's awesome! We also went zip lining at an incredible place nearby with 13 runs! The local restaurants were also fantastic. Being such a small town, I was unsure of how they would be, but I was incredibly impressed by the food and service. Las Heliconias has an amazing menu full of some of the freshest food I've had anywhere. Try the chimichangas! El Vago has wonderful pizza, and is a neat little surf side joint. The Mini-Super has virtually everything you will need for your stay, it's like a grocery store and convenience store in one, and the staff is so friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip, and managed very well even without knowing any Spanish.I would absolutely recommend this home to anyone wishing to experience the paradise that is Costa Rica, and we will definitely be returning ourselves! We just spent a week at La Casa del Suenos and it was perfect. The house was plenty large enough for everyone to have their own room and the bungalow was perfect for my husband and I. We loved the "private" beach. There was no one else there for the entire week. We were able to walk to the market and ate at a fun restaurant in the village. A scarlet macaw came and sat in the restaurant and posed for pictures while we were there. There were many of them roosting in the tree outside. It was great to have laundry facilities so we did not have to pack too much. I appreciated NOT having TV while we were there, but there was a Beverly Hillbillies DVD in the player that we enjoyed at night. The kitchen was great and the outside table very nice to have. We bought fish at the place across the highway and other necessities at the market in the village as well as in Jaco,which was very close. We were able to drive to whatever we wanted to do and return every night for dinner and swimming. The beach was perfect and we all enjoyed playing in the waves and boogie boarding every morning. Dave and Kate were very helpful with all of our questions beforehand and when we arrived as well. They arranged massages, manicures and pedicures with Ericka before we arrived and she is wonderful. Dave even gave us a ride into Jaco to pick up our rental car. We got to watch a couple of local soccer games and watch the fishing boats and surfers. The only thing we had to get used to was the sound of the almonds falling on the roof of the bungalow at night! We did have a few "critters" visit us if we forgot to close the door when we came in! This was a perfect place for us to stay for the vacation we were looking for. Private, close to activities and well-equipped. About the owner: Our family just finished spending a year, away from our home and work in New York, at this house in Esterillos Oeste. So we had time to do a lot of nice things to it. Lush planting surrounding the house. A new 'deck' on the pool. Rebuilding the lanai over the bar-b-q and bar. Art all over the place. And then practical things like a new water and washing system. Things that make the house feel more beautiful and work a little better. Meanwhile, the place holds the power of 'pura vida' - 'pure life' - that it inherits from the village it lives in. Oeste is just a little paradise. Touched just enough by civilization to have a couple cool beach bars with wondrous people, a little convenience store that doubles as a video rental store, a surf shack with a great teacher (and friend - Brett), and a terrific local restaurant called Alemendos (run by or friend Karen). This is paradise. Great folks. Great surfing. Great food. Great love. Great life. I can't wait until our kid goes off to college, just so we can move back. Stay now, before the house gets lived in full time again.
