PERFECTION AND MORE!

Wonderful place and felt like 'home' within minutes. Charlotte is very gracious and welcoming. Location is perfect to get around on foot to everything Amsterdam has to offer. Easy to grab tram to Central Station to get out of town on day trips also if you want. Cottage is cozy (smaller) but SO well laid out and set up. Beautiful setting and highly recommended. Will stay there each and every time in Amsterdam. Can't imagine a hotel stay now! Grocery store around the corner and lots of restaurants within a couple blocks.

Great little home says family with a 2 year old

This little house is great. It was and had everything stated in the ad. I appreciated how quiet it was and that there was a little garden for my daughter to wander around in. And I could watch her from the windows. Charlotte was a great host and very helpful. I would strongly suggest this place if you're like us - not the type to go out at night much (besides dinner).

Looking back at our 2 weeks in the 'dam, my wife said it all "It was our best big city vacation yet". Words of advice - 1.ask Charlotte for her museum card - saves money and time in the lineups. 2.Use the Albert Hein grocery around the corner - good food, plus beer and wine. 3.Try Mike's bikes for a country bike tour - join Petra's group, she's a hoot. 4.Buy a 24 hour pass on the canal tours - you can then enjoy all 5 canal tours on the one ticket. The candlelight tour was great - another perspective of 'dam, and unlimited wine. 5.There's an ATM just down from the grocery. 6.Train station ticket machines don't take credit/debit cards from US/Canada. If the ticket office is closed, you're in a pickle. Always buy return tickets - we learned, but had family to bail us out. 7.Showering in the garden house takes a little getting used to - the toilet shares the same space as the shower. Just be nimble like jack. We'll be back!!!

Wonderful Stay in Amsterdam

I spent a very happy month in this charming apartment. This was in no small part due to the kindness and helpfulness of Charlotte, the owner. Thank you, Charlotte. It was a wonderfully peaceful, private retreat after a hectic day of activities. It is not luxurious but it is comfortable and authentic. There is everything in the apartment that you could need during the course of your stay. Just be aware that the most comfortable bed is reached via a ladder. There are many TV channels in English - more than you usually get! The wifi reception was excellent. It is very well located for access to all the places you might want to see - many of them accessible on foot or by the trams which are quite close by.

Beautiful garden cottage

Lovely garden cottage in fabulous location. Upper bed requires a nimble climb, but the garden views are worth it. Exquisite views, quiet retreat, steps from transportation, perfect for refreshing solitude after museum visits. Had privilege of FOUR generations of ladies having tea in the garden! A bit like having one's own 17th century Amsterdam canal house: Yes, the canal Prinsengracht is right outside the front door. Definitely will return should we revisit Amsterdam, which we hope to do! Charlotte is a talented, professional industrial designer...be sure and ask her about the marvelous steel world clock she invented.

The perfect place!! Beautiful, private and close to everything!

My husband and I stayed here this winter. We could not have asked for a more perfect place. It is close to everything but not so close that you get street noise. The owner is very kind, accommodating, and helpful but not in least bit intrusive. There are 2 grocery stores around the corner (one organic!) and plenty of restaurants around. We have 0 complaints. It couldn't have been better.

Precious little guest house

What a wonderful place to stay! Cute little Garden House, felt like our little home away from home. Conveniently located on a main Canal, close to everthing!! But, tucked away from the noise. Great little grocery store just around the corner with a good variety of food options for our little kitchen, and a secure ATM. The Owner Charlotte was just wonderful and very helpful in our times of need. This is a great place recommended by a friend. I will tell everyone about it and would love to come back for another visit in the spring/summer when the Garden is in full bloom. - Thank you Charlotte for all your help during our stay.

Single room flat

Guest: El (Oxford UK)
Date of Stay: 08/12/10 Review Submitted: 08/23/10

We weren't able to stay in the garden flat because it was already booked but Charlotte put us into the single room basement flat with one bed and one airbed. It's a wonderful location and the flat was perfect for 2 sisters to share. There is a cafe, organic shop and supermarket within 3 minutes walk and the flat was clean and well equipped. Charlotte couldn't have been nicer and it was very hard to leave and return to work. Highly recommended but watch that mosquito, which is still around.

The garden house is at the back of the property and it is a great place to come back to after a day of sightseeing. It is very close to the downtown you can walk to many of the parks, museums and restaraunts. The apartment is clean and well maintained and being in the garden we found a great place to relax. The owner Charlotte was very helpful and had lots of guides and maps in the apartment to borrow. She was very friendly and took an interest in what we did each day.

We stayed here from April 28 - May 4, 2008 and were in love with it! Charlotte was a wonderful hostess who left us to our own devices. The location was perfect and such a lovely retreat in the heart of Amsterdam. The mosquitoes (or one, we are convinced) did their best to keep us up, but that's the trade off for such a lovely garden! We would highly recommend it (we have) and hope to be back someday!

I stayed here with two friends from April 24-26, 2008. We all thought Charlotte's garden home was one of the highlights of our four-country trip. It was a pleasant place to come home to each night, had a beautiful garden, and was conveniently located. Thank you Charlotte. If any one of us is able to visit AMS again, your garden house will be our first choice!

This place was perfect. It's right in the middle of everything, yet tucked away in the back gardens that you would never even know existed otherwise. All the other comments are right on: a great place to stay while in Amsterdam. I'll be back!

We spent 4 delightful nights at the Garden House in October. Steve was running the Amsterdam marathon and we wanted a place easy to access and where we could feel at home. It was perfect: very charming, independent and romantic, with everything we needed and more. With the cable TV, we were even able to watch the Rugby World Cup final! The surroundings were to dream of and Charlotte very kind and helpful. We will certainly come back to the Garden House for our next visit.

We spent three weeks traveling around Europe in Sept./Oct. and this place was great! We were so happy to end a long flight with a quiet private place and an incredibly comfortable bed! Charlotte was very accommodating and helpful. We spent the first four night of our vacation here and the last two night before we went home. The location couldn't be better! We walked everywhere! The canals were beautiful and walking around (anytime of day, even late at night) we felt very safe and comfortable. We woudl definitely stay here again and can't wait to visit in the future. The only thing that was uncomfortable were the mesquitos lol. It was raining the first few days we were there and the screen on the upstairs window was not on all the way so the mesquitos feasted on us! If you stay here be sure the screen is closed all the way or else you'll get eaten up! And be prepared for european bathrooms...they are small and funky. But regardless this place was great! Quiet, cozy and romantic.

We stayed here Dec/Jan 2006 for 5 days. The apartment is beautiful and comfortable, and very convenient for sightseeing. Walking around at night was a pleasure. My only complaint is that the bathroom was very cold and damp. But otherwise, we had a wonderful stay.

Stayed here for 4 nights in mid March. A great place to stay to get the true Amsterdam experience. Way better than staying in a hotel. The place was immaculate and had everything we needed. I definitely plan on going back in the future.

My mother, sister and I stayed spent 4 cosy nights in the garden house in November 2006. It was a delightful little cottage, really well set out for 2 or 3 adults. The property owner, Charlotte, was very kind, helpul and agreeable. Very good value for money and the location was really great - close enough to the city to access by tram (walk 5 minutes to the tram stop) and also close enough to walk to the major museums. A delightful address, and the night-time walks were beautiful.
