This 1300 Square Foot cabin is nested in the tall sycamores, pecan and mimosa trees in the "most historic small town in Texas", Bastrop.
The cabin has complete amenities including all linens, washer and dryer, fully stocked kitchen, bath has huge walk in stone and glass tiled shower, gas fireplace, indoor/outdoor hammock, wrap around deck with table and chairs, gas grill, dining for six or more, comfortable reclining furniture, large bedrooms, gorgeous view of the river from the upper and lower decks.
It's a fantastic retreat where you can choose adventure or pure relaxation. Our favorite things to do are kayaking and fishing. Four local golf courses and beautiful state parks are within a few miles. Peaceful, serene getaway.
*Due to the recent fires in Bastrop, a family who lost their home is living in the cabin until June 10, 2012. We are now accepting all bookings for Summer, Fall and Winter of 2012.

What a relaxing, lovely stay! The house is simple, comfortable, clean, well-kept and tastefully decorated. Our friend arrived about an hour before us, and when we called to ask how it was, he said it was nice. We probed and asked how the inside was, and found he hadn't made it past the porch swing! We spent much of the time on the upstairs deck, but it was nice to have the downstairs patio if you wanted to spread out. We brought food, and they had the basics there: dishes, pots & pans, silverware, coffee, foil, pepper with a grinder and coarse salt. Made chili Friday night, breakfast both mornings, and ate in Bastrop Saturday evening at the Roadhouse. Casual, great burgers and ice cold beer. Took a picnic to Buescher State Park, then made the park road drive to the back entrance of Bastrop State Park. Some lovely scenery, then sobering drive through Bastop State Park. Sad to see so much fire damage, but you can tell the renewal is happening. Loved sitting on the deck, watching the hawks, hearing the frogs, and had a couple of woodpecker sightings. We all decided we could have stayed for several more days. We weren't quite ready to leave on Sunday! Would definitely consider a trip back and will recommend to friends. Thank you for the hospitality!Owner response: Steve and I are always so pleased when our guests enjoy their stay at our wonderful cabin. We look forward to having you for our guests in the future. All the very best to you.

We stayed here over the weekend to get away, and found so much more than we expected. The house is even more beautiful than the pictures! The view over coffee from the deck in the morning can't be beat. There was something here for both of us: I love to cook, and hoped to have time this weekend to do as much culinary exploration as possible. The kitchen was a chef's paradise! My friend found quite a bit of inspiration for his sustainable homes blog, and we even shot a video of all the great energy-efficient features. Just a few more things to love about this home: - The care put into the welcome book really made us feel like your personal guests. Thanks for the recommendation to Roadhouse; we ate there and loved it. - The knotty pine interior and furniture were so cozy and clean. It was very welcoming. - We didn't spend as much time outside as we wanted to, but next time it would be lovely to play ping pong downstairs or set up a game of horseshoes on the massive lawn. Although I'm not proud of it, I even took an online work conference one morning from the deck and found the wifi connection to be as good as I have at home or better. For anyone worried about getting too far away from the world, you can be as close or as far as you need to be. Amazing home, and a wonderful trip. Thanks so much for having us!Owner response: Thank you so much for letting us know what you enjoyed about your stay at our wonderful cabin on the river. We look forward to your return. All the best, Linda & Steve

What a GREAT place to relax, cook, eat, play, etc.! We were so close to everything (downtown, Walmart, Lake Bastop) yet felt that we were in our own little cabin in the woods. It was really hot outside but the a/c and fans kept us cool. The cabin is SO well stocked with every day conveniences that we were in Heaven ha ha! We plan on going back when it is cooler (fall/winter) and maybe having an old fashion holiday. This place can't be beat!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your review of our cabin on the river. It's really very exciting and fulfilling for Steve and I to be able to share our retreat with you. We're so glad you had a wonderful time and look forward to having you come back.

The place was very nice and the furnishings very comfortable. I'm the only one who missed having a tv or a vessel for watching a movie. I will certainly consider coming back and thank you for clean sheets and soft comforters. Even though I watch tv I'm more of an enviornmentalist and animal activist than most. I would have loved to have my 4 legged child Rose accompany me. Rose is a well behaved rescue dog; in that I rescused her.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much for your feedback on your stay at our cabin. We made a very conscious choice to not have a TV because we, like you, enjoy the outdoor focus and like being in a peaceful environment. We do have internet access for anyone who wants to bring a laptop to view movies or stay connected. Wish we could have had your rescue dog at the cabin, but some members of our family have severe allergies. We wish you the best and would love to have you return.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful river front cabin. We all enjoyed the stay and everything in the place was perfect. The kids enjoyed fishing, playing ping pong, chess, and uno. We all enjoyed taking turns laying in the hammock by the fireplace. This is an excellent weekend getaway place. The only thing we wished for was more time to spend here. We look forward to a future date where we may be blessed to stay here again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for letting us know how much you enjoyed your stay at our wonderful cabin. We, also, look forward to having you as our guests again in the future. All the very best to you and your family.

We decided to get away at the last minute for the New Years Eve weekend. Lucky for us, the cabin was available. Though a little difficult to find, once there, it was everything it was advestised to be. We had to flip for who got to relax in the hammock...That thing is AMAZING!!! Can't wait to come back in the spring. I'm sure it will be beautiful!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We were so delighted to have you for our guests. Yes, the hammock is amazing. It's a Mayan family hammock. Hope you enjoyed it both indoors and outside. We look forward to your return. The weather and the river are just gorgeous in the springtime.

Words are bankrupt when trying to describe our stay at this beautiful cabin Christmas weekend. Our children and grandchildren from Austin & Houston met us here and loved it. Everyone raved about what a great place it was. I described it to one of my friends as being furnished in such a welcoming and comfortable way. The grandchildren and guys fished non-stop and didn't care that they did not catch anything. Everyone wants to come back in the summer.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Lisa & Mike spent the night at the cabin. Lisa's brother and I arrived a bit earlier than they did on Saturday- first thing we did was call them and told them they should really invite a friend. So, later in the evening a great couple friend of theirs came and stayed for the evening. We came back early this morning to find Mike and Caleb out on the canoe on the river fishing. Mike never catches fish and caught his first fish within the first 5 minutes Saturday afternoon, and several more throughout the stay. We all enjoyed it very much. Christopher and I made them a gourmet dinner Saturday evening, they didn't have to worry about a thing. The cabin really had a WOW factor driving up, even more so when we came back Sunday morning. We can't thank you enough for everything-- it was everything we had hoped for. Everyone fell in love with the cabin and we look forward to visiting again in the near future! .Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: Steve and I bought this incredibly peaceful cabin on the river in July of 2009 as a retreat for our family and friends and want to share it with anyone interested in a fantastic getaway vacation. At some point we may to retire here. Bastrop has a great small town feel with farmers' markets and historic old town on Main Street, some excellent restaurants and lots of parks. We have left the chicken coop standing with a plan to raise a few hens for our own eggs sometime in the near future. Our family invites you to come out for a few days or a week and step out of your busy life and reconnect with yourself, your family and friends. We wish you the best, Linda, Steve, Michel & Michelle, Jessica & Travis, Mikki & Dave and new grandbaby girl expected this fall.
Why the Owner Chose Bastrop:
We chose to buy this amazing cabin so that we would be able to get away and slow down the pace of our lives and remember what is really important in life.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Steve and I and Michel and Michelle often go kayaking down the river. Michel and Michelle are avid fishermen and have a continual competition going. They've caught some very big bass and catfish in the river. We love going to the Farmer's Market on Chestnut on Saturday mornings (open 9-1). Also enjoy the many excellent and down home restaurants in downtown Old Town on Main Street. Steve loves to golf and I love sitting on the wrap around deck drinking coffee in the mornings listening to the birds and watching the sun come up (and go down) on the river.
