Miguel's cabinas de San Miguel are beautiful! If you are in search of complete solitude, peace, rejuvenation on a spectacular beach this is for you. Adventurous spirit is a must as it is definitely off the beaten path, but well worth the trip. Birds, wildlife, simple life, nature in action, surfing, swimming in the estuary at high tide, and practicing your Spanish skills are all part of the adventure. Be sure to visit the butterfly farm, casa de caletas for dinner or lunch, Los Maderos for a quick bite or simple grocery, Maria is a gem. The place is conducive to couples or a small family. Kitchen small, but who really wants to cook on vacation. Breakfast can be delivered right to your door for a minimal price. Architectural detail and grounds really fit into the land, with simple, functional style. We bought a mini inflatable pool for our three year old since we came during hot season, but the. Estuary is around the corner. A definite Eden where the old manner of living in the country is still vibrant.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

A beautiful beach, clean accommodations. However, electric tea kettle didn't work and coffee maker ( French press) was less than adequate. Breakfast was good but we never saw the housekeeper. Too bad there wasn't more of a kitchen and ground floor bathroom, at least a toilet, sink and shower. Grounds are well maintained. Sliding glass door and screen have issues. Should have at least two more lawn chairs. Had a good time, despite the red tide, which was beyond owners' control. Thankfully, we weren't charged for the third night; we left a day early due to red tide. A good restaurant in walking distance.Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Dear Jan, thank you for your comments. We take everything you say to heart. Because we are not in Costa Rica, staff and guests are our eyes and ears. We are renting a house (albeit only a small cottage) and not a hotel room. Thus, the housekeeper comes every 3rd day to clean and change linen. Nevertheless we've asked the housekeeper to swing by every day to check and see if there is anything else needed. We have also brought a new electric kettle. Regarding the facilities, we find the extra outside shower very useful, but as described on the website, this is a cottage with only 2 bedrooms and one bathroom. We are really sorry we could not meet your expectations. You have helped us in understanding how to do a better job and we will implement your suggestions.

This year we spent two weeks in Veramar. Everything was as good as or in several cases better than we remembered. Miguel is the absolute best with immediate response to questions including everything from car rental to where to buy fish and wine. He made sure that his employees did everything to make our stay fantastic. The addition of WIFI was a definite plus for us and while we were excited that he added air conditioning, we did not use it since we like to listen to the waves and the fans were quite adequate. The pictures and the rave reviews of others say it all.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway.

My friends and I enjoyed our stay at the cabin very much. It seems brand new, and has all amenities. Playa San Miguel is a beautiful, wonderful place. Muy tranquilo. We caught many fun waves right out front. This beach is incredible. Dominga was very nice to us, and provided a great breakfast. Don’t be surprised to hear from us next year. Our wives have heard us raving about the place, and are anxious to visit.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

my family and i just spent 11 nights at this place and it was the most wonderful time. our kids are 3 and 4 and loved every minute of it. it was rare to see anyone else on the beach, we saw several turtles, and we loved going to san francisco for groceries. if you're looking for glamor or nightlife you should go somewhere else, but for sheer relaxation this place is unbeatable. Tanga's Restaurant is a 20 minute drive to Playa Coyote for the BEST seafood ever...go there for sure. the Flying Scorpion is quite lovely as well, and only five minutes walk from the cottage. we were also loved Andre and his Pizza Tree restaurant. we can hardly wait to get back...Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, romantic getaway.

My husband, son (14), and I had a fabulous vacation in this beautiful beachfront cottage! We highly recommend it! It truly is situated on a remote beautiful beach with hardly anyone else around. The owner was very helpful with travel details as we had never been to Costa Rica before. Amazingly there is a wonderful restaurant/bar just a few houses down the dirt road, The Flying Scorpion. The food is wonderfully delicious and the company very welcoming. The owner is American so if you are desiring to speak English for a change this is the place. Even has WIFI and tours and activities such as kayak rental, yoga classes, and jungle hikes. Pueblo Nuevo, just a short drive away has an outstanding restaurant too, owned by locals: very enjoyable and delicious. Breakfast is available from the caretaker of the cottage for a minimal fee and is delivered to your door at the time you choose.More delicious food! You can tell this Mom enjoys a break from cooking! The ocean was great for boogie boarding and OK for surfing. We are beginner surfers, with more experience you would enjoy it more. The cottage was just as it appears, other than there are neighbors on either side, but all was peaceful and serene. The cottage is very clean and comfortable, perfect for a couple with kids or a couple alone. Truly a fabulous tropical get-a-way.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The cottages are fantastic...clean, attractive, well cared for. The yard and ocean view are spectacular. There is nothing to interfer with the sound of the surf and access to the beach is easy as pie. This is a great walking and swimming beach. Miguel was most helpful and of all the places we have stayed, we found the pictures, description, and reviews already written to be "right on".Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.

We had an absolutely wonderful and perfect stay at Miguel and Marie's place on the beach at San Miguel. The perfect spot to stay. 50 meters from the beach- right there in front of you. Very stylish and well appointed and very clean homes with lots of windows opening to palm trees, beach and waves. We have traveled up and down the Guanacaste coast over many years and Playa San Miguel and Miguel and Marie's place is the most ideal beach and spot we have come across yet. Off the beaten track, the endless beach to yourself, quiet, peaceful, perfect for swimming, and great surf waves. We ate at the local 'soda' at the local plaza at the entrance to the beach- very good local food, friendly, and good value. Miguel answered all my emails very quickly and was extremely helpful with tips, advice, and local knowledge and extremely generous with the use of a surfboard. Dominga who looks after the places is extremely nice and helpful. We already know that we will be back next year and for as long as they will have us. Our 'go to 'place for relaxation, beach beauty, and hospitality. Thanks Miguel and Marie. Look forward to being in touch next year.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and i have been to CR several times and we would definitely say San Miguel and the cottages are one of our new favorite places. It so quiet and serene, away from crowds. Its just as the pictures show, simple but classy clean and comfortable, and beautifully built and maintained. Miguel answered any questions we had and was wonderfully helpful; above and beyond. The restaurant the Flying Scorpion did have yummy food and as was already noted, you will want to try their homemade ice cream. We were only able to stay for a short time this time but hope to stay again in the very near future! If you want to stay in one of the more untouched and quiet places of CR here in guanancaste, this is the place. dont look for high rise hotels or hoards people you wont find them here, but you will find beauty and peace and get to fall asleep to the waves just outside your window. Cant wait to come back! Thanks Miguel for everything!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway.

Two great cottages on the beach in a very remote area of Costa Rica. Clean bedding, simple design, more than you can imagine. Not to mention, the owner is more than helpful with recommendations of the surrounding area. Make sure to try the fresh seafood on the beach in Puerto Coyote and spend your evenings a The Flying Scorpion that is well within walking distance. Highly recommend.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Out of all the places I went on my 2 week Costa Rica vacation, this was by far the best spot I stayed at. If you want to get away from the crowds and tourism, this is the place to go. The cottages are impecable! Very clean and have an incredible view of Playa San Miguel and the Pacific. The housekeeper will bring you breakfast in the morning and she will feed you like a king for very little! Just a hundred meters down the road is an amazing restaurant "the Flying Scorpion". The food was some of the best food I have had anywhere! Be sure to try his homemade ice cream or if you get the chance, order one of his steaks. They are to die for. Overall, you can't find a more relaxing place with such amazing accommodations. It really is a gem and you won't be disappointed!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
