Lovely house, well cared for & maintained. Owners very easy to work with. We stayed in Aug 2012 for 5 days and had a blast at the house & in Serene Lakes. Lots of fun things to do locally and the neighborhood lake was so easy to access- no car needed (you can bike or walk to it). There were even Sat night movies outdoors by the lake.

2nd Chritmas Weekend we three families spent, feel like home. Landlord has everything prepared in house, what we need to bring are cloth, food and ski equipments. I would give 10 stars if there were. Thanks Shira & Bill.

Owner response: We're happy that your family enjoyed our home, once again, over Christmas weekend. Our one regret is that the snow level was so low this year but it sounds like you found fun things to do in spite of it. Looking forward to hearing from you again. Sincerely, Shira & Bill

Thank you for a wonderful vacation! The cabin was very cozy and clean, kitchen well equipped, kids enjoyed sleeping in the loft and playing with all the games they've found there. The owners were very attentive. Location was great for our skiing - we're hoping to come again!

Owner response: We're delighted that you and your family enjoyed our vacation home. It's great to know that kids are enjoying the loft. We call it our "rainbow room" and created it with our grandchildren in mind. Come back! Warm regards, Shira & Bill

We stayed at the house in 12/11. It is a great place. The only thing I would fault it on is the crappy TV. You can pick up a nice 42" flat screen for under $500..

Owner response: Thanks for your feedback. We are glad that you liked our home despite your dissatisfaction with our three T.V.s. We agree that, although they are fuctional, they are not "state of the art"! We hope that the cable service we provide through Dish Network compensated somewhat with "on demand movies" and that you were able to enjoy other aspects of our home and the surrounding Serene Lakes and Tahoe/Donner area during your stay. Sincerely, Shira & Bill

The house is stunning and fully stocked with everything that you would need. The owners were easy to contact and gave extensive information on the house, area and services. We are planning on booking this house again for a week next Summer.

Our family spent three nights in Serene Lakes at this wonderful house....very well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, great deck, and quiet, quiet, quiet. We all had brought books to read, but if we hadn't, there was a fabulous selection to choose from as well as magazines (New Yorkers, Sunsets, etc.). It's just a couple of blocks from the lake, and the whole area is very peaceful to walk in. The owners allowed us to bring our dog, and she had a great time, too! There are beautiful hikes in the area which we enjoyed...there were still patches of snow on the ground and in the surrounding peaks in July! It would have been helpful to have a map of the Serene Lakes area as some of the streets wind around, and it can get a bit confusing (one of them came to a dead end, then picked up again across a field, eg). We had brought California Hiking with us which proved helpful in picking hikes in the area...there are several for those who are wondering. A lovely alpine lake is a short hike after a long, rough drive down Pahatsi Road... To sum up: a lovely, restorative weekend in a lovely, well-equipped house! We hope to come back soon!

Owner response: We were happy to share our vacation home with you and glad you enjoyed your stay. We appreciate your feedback. Your suggestion to have a map of the area available is a good one and we will provide one for future guests. Please come back! Warm regards, Shira & Bill

We had a great family vacation at this beautiful and spacious cabin. We stayed for 3 nights in July and had plenty to do on the lake and in the area. The cabin is cozy, very comfortable, well equipped and well maintained. Serene Lakes are absolutely beautiful and the neighborhood is very friendly. We are looking forward to coming back here in the winter.

After 1 weekend in this lovely cabin with 10 people, i'm a HUGE fan! Shira and Bill keep this cabin more like a fully stocked and organized home, than any cabin i have been in. With nearly 12 feet of super soft snow when we arrived, we (4 kids and 6 adults) had a great time without ever having to drive once. After a couple hours of hard work, we made a track and sledding run all the way around the cabin, nice. The cabin has tons of room to be comfortable when hanging out, eating, cooking and sleeping. The kids loved spending time up in the loft with all the toys and games. We will be back hopefully again this year. Thank you!!!!

Owner response: We are so glad that you enjoyed our vacation home and the abundant snow. Looking forward to seeing the snow tracks and sledding run you created! It's great to hear that you, your family and friends were happy and comfortable. Hope to have you back sometime in the future. Sincerely, Shira & Bill

The many home-made decorations and personal touches at Serene Shores made us feel comfortable right away. All the amenities are available and well labeled, so we were able to find them and figure out how to use them easily (even the espresso machine--bonus!). Best of all, the house held our crowd of 5 adults and 5 kids without feeling cramped (although of course sound carries between the living room and loft, so we had to take that into account at bedtime). The neighborhood is fabulous for snow sports, with the sledding hill a short walk away, cross-country skiing at Royal Gorge (a favorite of ours) also right down the road, and several downhill options nearby (we tried Sugar Bowl this time). Exploring the area by walking, running, or snowshoeing is also nice for anyone who'd rather not exert themselves quite as much or go careening down hills. The weekend we were there, we hadn't had any fresh snow in a while and daytime temps were in the 50s, so spring conditions prevailed in February, but we were thankful to be at the summit where we had the best chance of snow. Similarly, had it been stormy (which we've encountered in the past), it's great not to have to get on the highway to drive from your lodging to your activity of choice. The owners were super responsive, helpful, and provided detailed information. I would rent this house again and recommend it without hesitation.

The cabin is terrific. Very homey and spacious. Convenient to Royal Gorge (a few blocks walk). It was great because we didn't even need to get in our car (always a plus). Would definitely stay there again.

We three families (11 people) had 2 fantastic Christmas nights in this very special house. There was space for all of us, with a little touch for all the different ages: games, Dish TV for the kids, card game for the parents and a very well equipped kitchen for the whole family... The location was excellent - quiet coummunity, easy access from Hwy 80. very close to three major Ski Resort: Soda Springs, Boreal, Sugar Bowl, and easy to get around Lake Tahoe area. It's a perfect vacation retreat for year around. We loved the very special attention from the owner (all possible tips were given and). We had unforgettable Christmas holidays! Thanks Shira & Bill. The loft filled with toys were the kids' favorite! Some of the toys even brought back memories of our own childhood. Everything in the cabin was nice and clean. A great layout for two families. for those with young children that don't do stairs well, bring a travel gate. It'll come in handy. The kitchen was well-stocked with every cooking appliance (even a slow cooker! Yes!). It really is a short walk to the lake, and the beach access near the lodge is really only a 2 minute drive away. Our kids loved the combination grass and sand beach. There are canoes you can use too! Bring life vests though. And best of all the lake was super clean. Donner Lake is only a 15 minute drive away. The West Shore has two age appropriate playgrounds and a lot of grassy areas for kid to run around. It's nice and fenced in and also has a snack shack. You have to pay to get in, but it's only like $2 per person. Under 2 years is free. The neighborhood and neighbors were super nice. The cars that drove through were respectful for the children playing out front. the streets are great for bikes, scooters, rollerblades, etc. We brought our bikes up. If you love trail riding, there are plenty of bike trails stemming from the neighborhood. We would definitely love to come back. Can't wait to see what it looks like in the winter!!

Owner response: The suggestion for a safety gate for the upstairs loft was a good one. We now have one available for use.

The pictures don't do this house justice. A true gem and in a convenient location - close to all of the ski resorts, Reno and Truckee. The three bedrooms are comfortable and there is loft/pull out sofa that accomodated the rest of my group. The house was immaculate and I would go back the next time I am in the Tahoe area.
