We were actually very disappointed with the cleaniness of the cabin. We rent on VRBO all the time and have never been burned -- so we thought we would try another site -- sorry to say this was not up to our standards. Our main concerns were the cabin was not clean and when charged a cleaning fee feel we should not have to clean when we get there. Cobwebs all over the house, dirty frig, and uncomfortable bedsOwner response: I am really disturbed by this review. This is coming almost 4 months after these folks were guests. If there really was a problem, I do not know why they would not have contacted me immediately upon arrival or at least sometime between their stay and now. We really pride ourselves on our property and we really work hard to offer our guests a wonderful vacation and I make every effort to respond promptly to any question a potential guest may have or a question coming from a guest that is enjoying our property. I WOULD ASK THAT POTENTIAL GUESTS THAT ARE READING THIS REVIEW, PLEASE CONTINUE TO READ ALL OTHER REVIEWS THAT HAVE BEEN POSTED BY PREVIOUS GUESTS.. We will be adding a new dock and a new firepit in the Spring of 2013, and will continue to invest money in this property to keep it first class. My goal is for everyone that has the opportunity to stay at our property to rate it as 5 stars out of a possible 5. I cannot control the fishing or weather, but everything that we can control we do to make this a very memorable experience for all guests.

We had a lovely time at Lyman Lake. The decription of the property was accurate and complete and the information about the surrounding area helpful. A nice place to spend a long quiet, nature filled vacation.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: Glad you had a great time! September and October are awesome times to enjoy the leaves turning colors and some awesome sunsets and sunrises over the Lake!

My wife and I and two daughters (ages 19 and 24) had a very fun and relaxing week at the lake house. The house was well stocked and very clean. Kitchen was well lighted, good counter space. Dining room table was good size for 4 people. Family room was very spacious, plush, and rustic. We all loved the beach and water. Several evenings we had a camp fire in the fire pit and it was awesome as the sunlight vanished and the stars came out. The charcoal grill that was provided was used often. We took several day-trips or partial day-trips during our week, which included Superior,WI, Amnicon State Park, Pattison State Park, and Bayfield, WI/Apostle Islands. What really amazed us about the property was how quiet and dark it was. Most of the time we hardly knew anyone else was around. Todd was very helpful during every part of the experience. It was a great time and we would love to go backRecommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are glad you had a great vacation! It is important to Kathy and I that folks that rent our lake house enjoy themselves and we take it very seriously to try our very best to provide a property above their expecatations! Plenty to do in the surrounding area as you found out or you can just enjoy the privacy of our beach, acreage, and the Lake!

We had a wonderful time at the cabin. We have 2 small children (3 and 4 years) and the beach is indeed awesome! They LOVED it. The property is very pretty and we really appreciated the privacy and peace and quiet. The nearby state parks are really nice, and Duluth is a short drive away. Todd was very helpful in answering questions and providing advice on places to visit while we were there. I would recommend this property to a friend, and we would visit again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.

We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay with our grown children, their spouses and our grandchildren. We were six adults, a 2 yr old and two babies and had plenty of room renting the cabin and the guesthouse. We easily could have all fit in the main cabin but wanted a little extra space with the babies. The cabin was very clean and had a wonderful large family room with windows facing the lake. All are very well maintained, clean, and comfortable and close to each other for going back and forth. The beach is amazing. Beautiful sand and very very gradual elevation. Was perfect for our 2yr old. A row boat and paddle boat were available and the paddle boat got used every day. The lake is very quiet and the beach is very private. We felt like we had the lake to ourselves. Tried a little bit of fishing without much success but our main goal was to hang out on the beach and play - which is exactly what we did. We did get a tip on where to catch some crappies but it was just too hard to tear ourselves away from the beach to give it a try. The sunsets were also amazing. Nothing like watching a beautiful sunset sitting in a paddle boat with a glass of wine - pure heaven. We highly recommend this property for relaxing and enjoying the wonderful Wisconsin outdoors - and plenty of room inside in case the rain decides to show up. Todd is so easy and accomodating and promptly answers all your questions. Everything other than our beach towels was provided making the stay that much more easy. We'll definitely be looking into another stay here in the future.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Glad you all had a great time! Kathy and I work hard to keep the property clean. The guest house works just great to allow for families that want to vacation together and yet gives everyone their own house and privacy and space when needed. The privacy of the Lake is indeed awesome and sunsets and sunrises are second to none. With our busy schedule it is tough for us to enjoy the property as much as we would like, and love to have people like yourselves enjoy it and treat it with care and respect like you did. We hope to have you s guests again! Todd

We rented the cabin from August 11 - 15 and we were joined by our 3 married children and there spouses. The cabin slept 8 adults very comfortably, and the kitchen was stocked with all the utensils. The Family room was decorated with beautiful wall mounts and the view of the Lake and all the nature was breathtaking. The cabin has a deck to sit out on and enjoy the view. We grilled every night and had campfires under the stars, Todd supplied plenty of fire wood. We brought yard games and had a blast just enjoying each others company. We went to Superior and Duliuth and they are about 30minutes away.Thank Todd for sharing your cabin with us.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We spent a full week at this property in the summer of 2011. We had three adults and a 2-year-old. WE LOVED IT! The cabin had plenty of space; fully stocked kitchen; the private beach was awesome; there were even toys in the closet and shelves for my 2-year-old. I loved waking up every morning and opening all the curtains to the fabulous view of our private beach/lake. It was so relaxing (which is what we were looking for) Todd was very accommodating to us and made us feel like we could call him any time if we had any questions while staying there! THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Our family of 3 from Alaska met with family from Wisconsin, including grandma, aunt, uncle, 2 cousins, sister/brother in law and 3 boys at the Lyman Lake cabin for 4 days in mid July. Everybody had smiles exploring the cabin, yard, and dock when we 1st arrived. A very pretty property, with a large yard and private beach and dock. The Cabin had a great living room with very high celings, ample kitchen and dining space, and a fairly large loft. A screened in entry area allowed us to stow a bunch of coolers, swimming and fishing gear and other assorted items. The swimming was fantastic for the little kids or the adults entertaining them. Sandy beach surrounded by light aquatic veg to the sides, all gently sloping to about 6 foot deep over 50' out. The yard and dock allowed everybody to watch kids and adults swimming. Although everybody who fished caught a few fish, the lake seemed to me to be a musky lake mostly...at least in mid July. We did not catch panfish/bass with the kids, except for 1 sunny, 1 y. perch, and 1 crappie. that was with lots of trying. I caught a few tiny walleye early in the mornings, but nothing else. We did get a few decent musky, but the 'fish of 10,000 casts' is not the best target species for kids and families. Still...the lake was really pretty, just minorly inhabitated with 20-40 cabins, and small enough to be explored with canoe/kayak or boat with trolling motor. But its big enough to have fun with larger boats and water skiing. All in all we loved our time at the cabin and really the only things we could say is we would like to see the fishing during another month.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Jeff, As I mentioned in earlier conversations, Lyman is a really good Musky Lake (I have caught as many as 5 in 1 hour) and pretty good walleye Lake especially in the Spring and Fall. We would always take the kids into Solon springs (about 7 miles away) where they have a beautiful 15-20 acre lake that is stocked with trout and panfish and is ONLY for kids. Our kids loved fishing there and it happened to have a Dairy Queen next to it, where we would get ice cream after fishing. We hope to have you stay again. I'm going to stay in touch and let you know when I'm heading to Alaska!

We stayed at this cabin for 4 nights over the 4th of July weekend and had such a good time. My husband and I invited my parents and his mom, plus our daughters and nephew (2, 4, and 8) and we were very comfortable. Todd was really helpful and accommodating about everything, and he took the time to answer my many emails in the time leading up to our trip :) The yard and beach were GREAT for the kids and they spent the majority of their time playing in the lake. We also loved having the hose in the yard to "shower" off with before going inside (which made the one bathroom for all of us completely manageable!) My husband was ecstatic to catch his first-ever muskie and also caught enough walleye and sunfish for a huge fish fry for all of us. We also drove to Pattison State Park one morning to see the waterfall which was really fun. I'd definitely recommend this place to others, we had a great experience! Thanks Todd!Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Molly, Glad you guys had a great time and that your husband caught his first musky! I think every guest that has tried for muskies this summer has caught at least one. Pattison Park is very beautiful and I urge everyone to take in both Pattison's waterfalls and Amnicon Falls. We are blessed to have these 2 waterfalls within a 20 minute drive of the Lake house! Hope to have you back!

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1997
About the owner: Kathy and I bought this property in 1997 and have had many years and fantastic memories watching the kids grow up and enjoy the beach, the lake, and nearby hunting and fishing spots. We enjoy the privacy of our property and the quietness of the Lake. We deal with the public all day long and I have never really been able to RELAX on busy lakes that have constant boat and jet ski traffic. On the 4th of July weekend, it is common to see only a handful of boats on the lake and those that are out there are fishing. The beach is wonderful and the gradual slope into the lake is great for young kids. Our kids are growing up and it is hard to coordinate everyone's schedules to allow us much time 'up at the Lake', so we have decided to allow others to enjoy this great property and make their own 'getaway' memories.
Why the Owner Chose Lyman Lake:
If you are looking for the hustle and bustle of some lakes with lots of boat traffic and jet skis buzzing by your dock, you will not enjoy this property. We bought this property because it is a beautiful, quiet, private house and guest house on a nice 400+ acre lake in Northwest Wisconsin where the speed of life moves a whole lot slower than other parts of the world. We have good fishing for walleye and musky on Lyman and many other lakes and streams nearby. Although the lake is peaceful, we do like the fact that we are a short distance from Duluth , Superior, Hayward, Ashland, Lake Superior, and the Apostle Islands. A number of great restaurants are also a short drive away. This is a GREAT spot for a Romantic getaway or for a family getaway. We were blessed to watch our 4 children grow up on this lake and we experienced countless memories. We have decided it is time to allow others to make their own memories.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Lake living is really where it is at! When I am in need of recharging my batteries, all I need to do is head 'up to the Lake' and with a sunset and glass of wine or beer,or a cup of coffee in the morning watching the sunrise , I immediately start recharging the batteries!
