The Cappelli House is a newly renovated and updated vintage home appointed with original mid-century modern furniture and decor. Freshly painted inside and out with refinished fir floors, porcelain and stone tile and new redwood deck. Located 2 blocks off Main Street, this three bedroom two bath home is ideally situated to enjoy all that Murphys has to offer: walk to restaurants, wine tasting, shopping and live music. This little town has been called the 'Carmel of the Foothills' and was named 'One of the top 10 Coolest Small Towns in America' by Frommers. Once the stomping-grounds of the likes of Mark Twain and Brett Harte, today Murphys is a well preserved and welcoming gold rush town with a laid-back atmosphere and modern amenities.
Surrounding areas offer something for everyone. Winter sports fans will enjoy the world-class downhill and cross country skiing at Bear Valley, about an hour drive east on Highway 4 from Murphys. There are several outstanding public golf courses within easy driving distance that will challenge and delight golfing enthusiasts of all skill levels. The Stanislaus National Forest offers year-round recreation opportunities including hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, horseback riding, camping, picnicking, rock climbing, low speed boating, whitewater rafting and kayaking, stream and lake fishing, skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and more, on over 250,000 acres of spectacular alpine terrain.
Calaveras Big Trees State Park features two magnificent groves of giant sequoia, as well as over six thousand acres of pine forest, campgrounds, picnic areas, and miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. Calaveras County is also blessed with some spectacular caves and caverns, all of which are open to the public and offer a variety of tour options, including Mercer Caverns, Moaning Cavern and California Cavern.
Nearby Lake New Melones provides boating, water and jet skiing opportunities. The more adventurous can try whitewater rafting on the Class IV North Fork Stanislaus River, or flatwater kayaking or canoeing on one of the many beautiful alpine lakes in the Stanislaus National Forest.
For you cyclists, there's no better way to enjoy a day in Murphys than on a bike.

We were in Murphys to attend a wedding. We were five adults and an infant. The house is charming, clean and oh so comfortable. Two bedrooms and a full bath at one of the house with an additional bedroom and 3/4 bath at the other end. The third bedroom has a small walk in closet that fits the pack-n-play perfectly. Our little one had his own little spot to crash in! The house is a delightful 1960's ranch with updates that play into the period. The large deck and yard in the back make a perfect spot to chill out and relax. The patio in the front is an intimate place to have a morning cup of coffee of a glass of wine in the evening. Because of our schedule we only cooked a couple of meals at the house. However, the basics are all in place to meet the needs of a simple menu. The attention to detail in this house will welcome you in and reluctantly let you go. But go, you must as it is just a block to Main Street where the heart of Murphys beats; great restaurants, coffee shops, wine tasting and retailers will keep you busy and oh so content. This house fit our needs perfectly. Our special thanks to Belinda and Cherie for all their care and attention.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Belinda, I wanted to take a moment to let you know just how much we enjoyed our stay at the Cappelli House in Murphy’s. What a beautifully updated home. The home’s layout is great and it’s 3 gorgeously decorated rooms coupled with the nicely equipped and stocked kitchen, large dining room and table and expansive back deck accommodated the 6 of us perfectly. I’m an ultra-frequent business traveler, and as such, I feel that the three most important things to a good night’s rest while away from home are the mattress, pillows and linens. Your place scored a perfect 10 on all three. It’s the little things which are often overlooked with most rentals… simply not the case with the Cappelli Hose. What an awesome little slice of perfection. The flat screen TV in the front room made watching ‘Union Rags’ win the Belmont Stakes this June both fun and comfortable. Great choices with the furnishing too… just perfect. My guests were impressed as was I with the newly remodeled bathrooms. Avant-Garde is how I’d describe the two beautiful bathrooms. As you suggested, we took the short walk into town each morning to take in breakfast and each evening for cocktails at the Murphy’s Hotel… being just 2 blocks from Murphy’s historic downtown center, the Cappelli home makes enjoying the festive and lively town easy. And we took the short drive to Ironstone Winery and the caverns. A good time was indeed had by all. I’ve sent a similar letter today along with the $50 check we discussed to cover the additional schedule of costs for bringing my black Labrador. Bella goes just about everywhere with me and she enjoyed the large lawn in the back. Thanks again for everything Belinda. Regards, BobbyRecommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, families with teenagers.

We are Murphys residents, but our home is a little too cozy when it is time to entertain out-of-town guests. So, we began our search for a vacation rental that would be close to town and comfortable for a group of six. Immediately the Cappelli house offered to us everything we were seeking... proximity to town, outdoor and indoor entertaining spaces, and all-around great comfort. We really appreciated the high-end cookware as we enjoyed many home cooked meals. The home has a wonderful retro vibe to it, and the grounds are lovely and private. A shout out to the cleaning staff... we could not have been happier. We'll be back. Thank you owners.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.

We have stayed at so many vrbo homes. We were so impresessed with the attention to detail, fine remodling and painting work, as well as how very clean your home is. We enjoyed cooking brunch and eating in the dinning room while listening to classical music from the entertainment systems. Appetizers and wine were perfect, on the deck, after a beautiful day at the Concourse D'Elegance at Ironstone . Beds and linens were super comfortable. I highly recommend a stay!Recommended for: Sightseeing.

I felt right at home, away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. There is comfort and cleanliness throughout this home.It is a block away from the main street tucked away in a quite corner of Murphy's town. I really enjoyed cooking dinner, sitting on their patio and enjoying myself a meal, while the sunset in the distance, with a bottle of wine from the local vineyards. Peaceful and quietness was exactly what I was looking for and I found it at the Cappelli's house. Plus, they are so hospitable and directions written, were very clear. I am thinking of visiting Murphy's again soon and I know exactly where I will be staying. :)Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.

Very comfortable, absolutely adorable cottage with excellent outdoor and indoor space. Beautiful and interesting retro decor. Close enough to walk to town if willing to. Murphys is a fun place. We will definitely stay at this same place when we return if it is available. We stayed in a house rather than a hotel because we were attending a family reunion and my grand dog was going to be with us. Pet friendly hotels are not that available in Murphys. The yard and house were perfect for my grand dog. Loved it.Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.

About the owner: Marco and I met in Napa in the wine industry in the late 90's. We moved to the Sierras a few years ago and Marco started making wine for Indian Rock in Murphys. We instantly fell in love with this charming town. Our daughter, Ginetta, arrived in 2010 and has been lighting up our lives ever since!

Marco and I love the history of the Gold Country, enjoy the great wines being produced here and the closeness of a small town community.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
