Our eight day stay could not have been better! The location is very private, quiet, and the home is furnished perfectly. The surrounding area is like a village with plenty of places to eat out, buy groceries and prepare your own meals, whatever your pleasure. The nearby caretaker is easily accessible if there is a need, such as when a thunder storm temporarily knocked out the wi-fi, which he restored quickly. He also met us there on arrival as well as checked us out when leaving. My greatest fear about my rave on this place is that it will not be available next time I plan to return, but it would be unfair to do other than express our absolute pleasure in staying at Lochview.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Thank you for the very kind review, Jim. I hope you and Mary Anne come again and bring your boat next time!! So glad you enjoyed your stay and the Fairlee area - we agree it's a very special place. I'd be happy to offer a discount on your next visit so please keep in touch. Thank you! Dashiell

My wife and I were in Vermont for our daughter's wedding and stayed at Lochview during the week. The property is exactly as described. It is clean, spacious, attractively decorated, and very relaxing! The location is remote enough to be very private, but close enough to any activity you care to pursue including the Fairlee Drive in Movie Theater. We thoroughly enjoyed the spacious and well laid out kitchen, and hosted a dinner for the wedding party the second night with room to spare. Despite the unusually high temperatures and humidity that week, we were very comfortable in the house. With its energy-efficient features and cool evening breezes, we did not even have to use the AC. Dashiell our host is extremely organized and gracious, and Hink-the-handyman is very helpful. We did not require his services during the week, but knew that he was available in minutes if needed. My wife is already looking forward to a return visit in the future.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Bob and Darlene, It was a pleasure having you - and so glad you could take advantage of all the kitchen amenities to host a party for your daughters wedding. The open plan style of the house is great for entertaining - and it sounds like you made the most of everything. I'm so happy you enjoyed your stay. Please come back and see us soon. We offer a discount to returning guests as a 'thank you' for your patronage. Cheers, Dashiell

This place is incredible. A beautiful home in the most serene, beautiful setting. The owner and caretaker could not have been more accommodating to our every need. Fairlee is charming and the area around here is the most picturesque in the state. We will be back. A perfect spot for a relaxing, romantic break. The photos do not do justice to this place. You have to see it. Just bring your toothbrush.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Hi Aimee. Thank you for the kind review, it was great to have you and your husband here to celebrate your wedding anniversary over the 4th of July. The house has a spectacular view of the annual fireworks display - I'm glad you could experience that and also appreciate how relaxing and peaceful a spot Lochview is. Please come back and see us soon in Fairlee. There's lots more to explore. Write when you know your plans - will be happy to offer a discount for your next visit. Best, Dashiell

We’ve just spent 6 days at Lochview, and we can only fully endorse the previous four 5 star reviews. In fact Lochview deserves 6 stars. The venue and the house are stunning – especially in the Fall. I don’t think we’ve ever stayed in a better equipped and clean property. The house is spacious, tastefully decorated and furnished with every modern convenience you could need for your stay. The kitchen dining area is terrific with absolutely everything you’d want to host a dinner party if you felt that way inclined. Given its location it also boasts a very reliable and fast internet connection, with a landline to receive calls and make local and free-phone calls. The bedrooms and bathrooms are delightful,l and came with crisp fresh bed linen and a generous supply of towels. – and plenty of hot water! As others have said, the views are stunning, as is the property’s surrounding woodland. Waking up to the balcony view of the lake as the sun broke through the early morning mist, was a joy. The property is ideally placed for visiting all the best Vermont and New Hampshire sites. The town of Fairlee is less than 10 minutes drive away, with plenty of places to eat, gas stations, a grocery store, a bank etc. Driving in Vermont is stress free with very little traffic and good roads, so you can quickly reach all the favourite visitor spots. Dashiell the owner was incredibly quick in responding to any emails and offered a host of useful advice about things to do and see in Vermont. Likewise Hink her caretaker who lives locally, was also very helpful and friendly. When we arrived home our deposit had already been returned to our bank account – and that must be a first! Normally we wouldn’t comment on another visitor’s review as everyone has different standards and expectations. However there’s always a time to make an exception. Judging by our experience and that of the four other guest reviews we can only conclude from Carrie’s 1 star review that she was either very unlucky or possibly stayed in the wrong house. Lochview can be recommended with total confidence.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Harry and Linda, Your review surpasses any owners expectations - what can I say? Thank you so very much for everything mentioned and the photos you sent. Autumn is the most special time in Vermont - you picked a great time to come (early October) when the days are warm and the nights cool, the views open up as the leaves fall and the colours on the hillside are just spectacular. I hope we see you again on your next American adventure. And tell all your British friends about your trip - we do accept pound sterling and welcome visitors from abroad. Take care, Dashiell

Our family spent a week at this wonderful home. The photos do not do this property justice. The views are magnificent from every deck of this home. The inside of this home is immaculate and offers every ammenity you could desire. There is a central stereo system that allows you to listen to music throughout the house. This was a real treat as we sipped wine and watched the deer in the yard!!!! The Town of Fairlee is a short drive away and offers shopping for all of your needs. It is the quinessential Vermont town. My husband went to buy a paper one evening and the clerk told him if he finished vaccuming he could get a discount!!!! Morey Lake is just beautiful. I am a distance swimmer and have been in a variety of open waters. This is a very clean lake with limited boat traffic. Just lovely for families. If you are a biking enthusiast...RT 5 & 10 offer miles of very nice roads. I have biked over all of New England and this is a gorgeous bike route. Some hills but nothing too difficult. The owner Dashiell and the caretaker Hink are wonderful and more than helpful in answering questions/ planning your trip. I have stayed in many properties on vrbo...this is Vermonts finest!!!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Wow - what to say? Thank you Marianne so much for such a great review. I do think Lake Morey is exceptional in many ways. The water is very clean and safe as it has limits to motorized boats - a 100 yard exclusion zone around the edge of the lake and no jet skis mean people can swim, kayak, scull safely, without having to worry about motor boats getting too close. The camps on the lake also have preserved much of the area around the lake to pretty much like it has been since the 1950s. We are indeed so lucky to have this to enjoy and so pleased to have people come to stay who appreciate how special the area is. Thank you and Al for being great guests - and especially Al who fixed the blind in the downstairs bedroom. Who could ask for nicer renters? Hope to see you both next year.

This is slightly belated review, to describe the wonderful experience we had at Lochview. My husband and I - academics from Montreal - spent 10 days there during the July heat wave, enjoying the breeze from the lake and having a wonderful escape from the city. The house is in an ideal spot - just far enough from everything to enjoy undisturbed peace and quiet, and the occasional visit from the resident deer but within walking distance to the lake and a short drive away from Hanover, NH. and many Vermont sites - great restaurants too! On your arrival you are given a list of restaurants and activities, along with the owner's personal recommendations - very helpful! We've traveled widely in Europe and North America but the view of Morey Lake from the property is up there with the best! The house itself is extremely well equipped, clean, comfortable and decorated with great care and taste - the pictures do not do full justice to it - and both the owner and the caretaker go out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as possible. We would absolutely recommend the house to anyone who likes a quiet, beautiful spot, respects nature, and enjoys the slower pace of a Vermont resort town.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you Judith. So pleased you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again next year!

The house is lovely, as is the location. Bring your own sheets, towels, and pillows unless you like yard sale bedding. I would check the beds for bugs - the mattresses also look yard sale and I received a whopping physician-worthy spider bite the first night. Drains were clogged and dishwasher is not worth using. While there is absolutely no organization to the kitchen wares, be sure you put everything back in its original chaos or you will quickly be labeled a thief. There is a very welcoming caretaker but dealing with the owner left a sour taste in this vacationers mouth.Owner response: Carrie & Jim loved the house so much they asked to come back at Thanksgiving. However, I was not happy with the condition of the house at check out, with some minor damage in the kitchen, a few missing items, a large discoloured spot on the lawn from where a tent had been pitched, or the additional guests in the camper van they invited to come for a week or more without asking permission or offering compensation. Needless to say, I declined their request to return. Renters like these noone needs! Let the reader decide........The dishwasher which had been working prior to their arrival appeared to have broken during their stay but was never flagged to myself or the caretaker - even at checkout- so it is hard to imagine how I was supposed to repair when I was never made aware of the problem. Once brought to my attention by the next renters, the repairs were made within a few days. As far as the linens and towels go, they're all an assortment from TJ Maxx, Macy's and JC Penneys and seem to suit everyone's needs without comment. Items missing from the kitchen which I queried after checkout, was never an accusation of stealing. Finally, apologies for the spider bite, but out of my control when people open up doors and windows at their pleasure. Surely anyone who knows Vermont, knows it isn't exactly going to be bug free in summer, is it? A lovely couple with perhaps different tastes and expectations, I hope they find a more suitable rental somewhere else next year.

My husband and I got home from Lochview yesterday and already we are missing it terribly . We had a week to enjoy all Vermont has to offer but the best nights were the ones we spent in the house staring out the window from the dining table enjoying the wonderful view and absolute peace. Actually the best mornings were spent that way as well. Dashiell (the owner) was beyond helpful! Everything she recommended (Simon Pearce, the Drive-in, Farmer's Markets, Whippi Dip, etc.) were all wonderful! We were welcomed by Hink. He was super helpful, sweet, and just wonderful! He was the first and our favorite person we met in Vermont. Oh yeah, upon arrival Dashiell had arranged for a local loaf of cinnamon, raisin, walnut bread to be there. I am still craving more :-) Anyway, that was probably a very long-winded way of saying that this place is absolutely wonderful! At the end of our stay, the owner asked if there was anything that could or should be improved and I can say wholeheartedly, not one thing! We can not wait to go back next year (and the year after that, and the year after that).Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

My husband, daughter, son-in-law and 6 month old granddaughter just spent a week at "Lochview" and had one of the most relaxing vacations we've ever had. The house is cozy and clean with all the comforts of home. The kitchen was very well equiped and great to cook in. We were able to bring our dogs, who enjoyed being able to be outside on the property at their leisure. The owner was very helpful with a list of local activities and restaurants that we all enjoyed. There is actually quite a bit to do in the area with two lakes that are near by. Lake Morey is quite close w/a very nice beach area. We will definitly try to get back to "Lochview" for another vacation and would like to try going in the Fall as the view would be beautiful. Winter would also be fun if there was snow. We would highly recommend this house as a relaxing vacation spot and the owner is very accommodating and easy to deal with.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
