Grandpa's Cabin at the Buzzard's Roost - Plumas County, Ca
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
'Bear-themed' Grandpa's Cabin sits on our family property which was purchased by our parents over 60 years ago. The main home on the property was constructed from lumber our parent's salvaged from dismantling Walker Mine north of where Lake Davis currently sits.
Our young father also built Grandpa's Cabin from salvaged lumber in the 1950's for his father, 'Grandpa', so that he could live with the family but still have his own private area. The cabin has been moved over the years, and has been remodeled, though we kept the original wood flooring.
If this cabin could only speak, you would be quite entertained by what it could tell you! It was not only our grandfather's home but over the years it has served as a guest house, month-to-month rental, used by one of my brother's to play cards in with his teenage friends, kept our missing dog safe until we noticed his head popping up and down in the window, was home to various family members, and was also home to the LDS missionaries for a time. Grandpa's Cabin's patio includes rock work that Grandpa did while he was living here.
Now Grandpa's Cabin will serve the public as a great get-away and convenient place to begin all your adventures in Plumas County. We also have a wonderful apartment available (#314112). Ask us for details.
Grandpa's Cabin is clean and furnished with pretty much everything you need, including kitchen, satellite flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi, deck, covered parking, fenced yard/patio with gas BBQ and two places to build camp fires. (All the wood you want provided.) WE PROVIDE ALL BEDDING AND TOWELS; BED WILL BE MADE PRIOR TO YOUR ARRIVAL, BUT THERE IS NO MAID SERVICE AVAILABLE DURING YOUR STAY. ON-GROUNDS MANAGER AVAILABLE.

Hostess Glenda made our stay so enjoyable. Cabin was cute , warm and cozy. The bed and linens were top notch, equal to some of the 5 star resorts i have been too. We enjoyed the firepit watching the stars at nite. Would reccommend very highly and will be back.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, people with disabilities.
Owner response: Hey, Mike: Thanks for the nice comments! So glad you enjoyed the cabin and we look forward to your next visit!

Thank you. It was a great weekend and an easy, pleasant stay. The cottage is cozy & has everything one could need. It is really clean and comfortable. The outside surroundings w / tables, chairs & hammock is also great... It was great - we'd certainly return if we have a chance. Thanks.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My girlfriend and I had a very nice stay at Grandpa's cabin. Though the space is not very large, it was perfect for the two of us. It was a definite bonus that the cabin has a full kitchen and that there is a grill in the patio area outside. Glenda, the property manager, was also extremely easy to work with and was very accommodating when we were looking for a last minute rental.Recommended for: Pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for visiting my grandfathers cabin. Glad you enjoyed it. And thank you for writing a review so quickly to share with my future customers. Hope you can come again sometime. Glenda

Just as wonderful as the last time. It worked great to bring our daughter, son-in-law & new baby & have them in Buzzards Roost. Everyone had their privacy and together times were great. Loved it!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

As a railroad buff, feature the railroad in your description. It's a plus and it's a great place to view trains coming by. (Dan) We loved the place! it was perfect for our needs to explore the lakes in Plumas National Forest. Dan even caught (& released) a trout from the bank of Frenchmen Lake. Wahoo! The fence around this great courtyard was such a relief for us with our dog. Thanks for the firewood and kindling. You really thought of everything. We'll be back with friends / family! Dan & Dianna P.S. Comfortable inside & great patio furniture outside! Suggestion? -- bicycle rental for trailDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: I was born in Portola and raised with my brothers and sister on the property where Grandpa's Cabin is located. I have been married to a great guy for nearly 32 years, have two 'perfect' kids, a great son-in-law, and two very special granddaughters.
Why the Owner Chose Portola:
After my parents passed away my husband and I decided to purchase the family home and remodel the vacation rental that my mom started many years ago.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
While staying at Grandpa's Cabin you have the benefit of close access to Highway 70, easy, very close, access to the popular bike/walking path along the Feather River into town (an easy ride or walk for anyone), a front seat view of the trains passing by on the other side of the river, a very short drive to the Railroad Museum in town, and the benefits of having the Feather River run through the property. There are no fences between you and the river, so you, the kids and dogs have the benefit of exploring the river with no boundaries. A motel room, bed and breakfast, campsite, or RV park will never measure up to what you can have at Grandpa's Cabin!
