Portola cabin description
'Bear-themed' Grandpa's Cabin sits on our family property which was purchased by our parents over 60 years ago. The main home on the property was constructed from lumber our parent's salvaged from dismantling Walker Mine north of where Lake Davis currently sits.
Our young father also built Grandpa's Cabin from salvaged lumber in the 1950's for his father, 'Grandpa', so that he could live with the family but still have his own private area. The cabin has been moved over the years, and has been remodeled, though we kept the original wood flooring.
If this cabin could only speak, you would be quite entertained by what it could tell you! It was not only our grandfather's home but over the years it has served as a guest house, month-to-month rental, used by one of my brother's to play cards in with his teenage friends, kept our missing dog safe until we noticed his head popping up and down in the window, was home to various family members, and was also home to the LDS missionaries for a time. Grandpa's Cabin's patio includes rock work that Grandpa did while he was living here.
Now Grandpa's Cabin will serve the public as a great get-away and convenient place to begin all your adventures in Plumas County. We also have a wonderful apartment available (#314112). Ask us for details.
Grandpa's Cabin is clean and furnished with pretty much everything you need, including kitchen, satellite flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi, deck, covered parking, fenced yard/patio with gas BBQ and two places to build camp fires. (All the wood you want provided.) WE PROVIDE ALL BEDDING AND TOWELS; BED WILL BE MADE PRIOR TO YOUR ARRIVAL, BUT THERE IS NO MAID SERVICE AVAILABLE DURING YOUR STAY. ON-GROUNDS MANAGER AVAILABLE.

We Were Very Comfortable
We had a great time here. The Grandpa's Cabin was enough room for my husband and I. Great use of space; we were very comfortable. Thank you for heating the place prior to our arrival. The temperature with the heater we thought remained comfortable. We would love to return when we are in the area again. Thank you for sharing your place with us.

Wonderful Space to Relax!
Wonderful Space to Relax!
The cabin had everything I could have wanted and the outdoor space made it seem like we could have brought the whole family! Really a lovely and quiet setting with a river walk to town just about 1/2 a block down the road! The bed was the most comfortable that we encountered on our whole trip! I also very much appreciated the power strips at the side of the bed. With all the things we travel with it was a delight not to have to get down on our hands and knees to find outlets to hook up our cpap machines and charge our other gadgets! So thoughtful! The transaction was delightful and the stay very restful and productive. We will stay again if we get back up there! Thanks again!

Charming and Peaceful
Charming and Peaceful
We were in search of a timeout from a hectic schedule and we found that in Grandpa's Cabin. Though it is on the same property with the main house with an upstairs apartment, we felt secluded and had lots of privacy - in fact, we didn't know anyone else was there.. The cabin has a large side yard with a gas grill and fire pit and a front yard area with a double hammock and a high landscaped hill which keeps down road noise. The owners take comments seriously as they implemented each suggestion made here. Guess we arrived a couple of days after the air conditioner. We loved it, everything you need. Hope to do it again.

We Had a Great Stay
We had a great stay. Really love the cabin. The only thing that would make it better is air conditioning. (Thanks for your review. In light of your comment, and the heat wave we are experiencing up here in the mountains, we are having an air conditioner installed in Grandpa's Cabin on July 2nd. Come again! --- Glenda)

Cozy, Well Appointed Delightful CabinGuest comment entered by owner
Cozy, Well Appointed Delightful Cabin
This is a cozy, well appointed delightful cabin - Old school in the most positive way. Great barbeque & fire pit area, and a pleasant walk to beautiful views of the Feather River. Great location for fishermen and hikers alike; only a short distance to Davis Lake and The Lake Basin Area. Nice little flat screen TV and a great - very comfortable bed. -- We recommend Grandpa's Cabin. Tom and Glenda Oceanside, CA

We Had a Wonderful Time!
We had a wonderful time! Thank you all for everything. Great area, great cabin, great yard! -- The only suggestion we have would be something to listen to music on. Ratio / CD player / ipod deck / TV channel w/ music... -- Thank you guys again! PS - We needed to free up some space in the cooler so we left you a few beers! (Meredith and Tom: Sorry about the lack of music for your stay! After you left I called DISH and the box needed to be reset. Problem resolved; channels restored! -- Thanks for coming! Glenda)

About the owner: I was born in Portola and raised with my brothers and sister on the property where Grandpa's Cabin is located. I have been married to a great guy for nearly 35 years, have two 'perfect' kids, and two very special granddaughters.
Why the Owner Chose Portola:
After my parents passed away my husband and I decided to purchase the family home and remodel the vacation rental that my mom started many years ago.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
While staying at Grandpa's Cabin you have the benefit of close access to Highway 70, easy, very close, access to the popular bike/walking path along the Feather River into town (an easy ride or walk for anyone), a front seat view of the trains passing by on the other side of the river, a very short drive to the Railroad Museum in town, and the benefits of having the Feather River run through the property. Your privacy fence is the only fence between you and the river, so you, the kids and dogs have the benefit of exploring the river with no boundaries. A motel room, bed and breakfast, campsite, or RV park will never measure up to what you can have at Grandpa's Cabin!
