I highly recommend Northern Lights for inspired architecture blending old and new, with privacy and striking scenery from every window. This is a lovely historic cabin remodel. The upstairs master suite is a beautiful addition, incredibly spacious and well-designed. We watched deer and foxes walk by the french doors from the master bed. Incredibly comfortable master suite furnishings. The downstairs is charming, imaginatively re-modeled for an inspired blend of Eldora mining history with low-key cabin living and knock-out window views through-out. I really love the barn wood kitchen cabinets. The front deck is where we spent most of our time, taking in the valley, views, aspen, pines, weather, sensory overload. I recommend this combined elegant and cozy getaway to anyone seeking walk-out access to the Indian Peaks wilderness, or to be a local in a lovely mountain community, any season.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Great house, plenty of space for our family and extended family to spread out. We had 6 adults and 3 kids at various points in the 4-day weekend and the house was a perfect hub for spring skiing at Eldora (perhaps the last viable weekend this year, as the ski season is dropping off quite rapidly), playing outside, and marveling at the charms of Nederland and Boulder. 77 and sunny made for a nice dinner on the deck. Great beds, plenty of seating, fully-equipped kitchen. We cooked each night. Thanks for a great stay! Theresa (Fort Collins) and family.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

We rented this cabin for the week after Christmas including New Year's. Our family was looking for a comfortable, spacious cabin out in nature with some perks (jet bath, steam shower, master bedroom, dvd, FREE SKI TIX!) and enough separate rooms to provide some privacy for our three families. Our dreams were fulfilled! I have to mention that the owner and manager deserve many gold stars for their generosity and commitment helping us get through a series of unfortunate technical issues during our stay. If you are looking for a cozy cabin in the woods with plenty of room to spread out, you won't be disappointed. Kids can play in the snow outside. Feed the fox that comes to visit... Eldora Resort is 15 minutes away door to door... Try out the restaurants in Nederland too: The German place was great... Bring your good karma and enjoy the easy going yet dedicated service provided by the owner and manager. Thanks Michael and Jack!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We had a fantastic family vacation at Northern Lights. It was the perfect location for small kids as we went hiking and biking right from the front door. Nederland is such a quaint town just a few miles away with great restaurants, river and lake area, and the "Carousel of Happiness". The home is beautiful and has everything you need to make you feel at home. The master suite is amazing with steam shower and sauna. The sun room is a great place to hang out and enjoy the breathtaking views. The large deck allowed our children to play and for us to dine outside. Ask the locals about their bridges and trails and enjoy! The trailheads are closeby leading to many beautiful mountain rivers and lakes.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Northern Lights and had a great time in the quaint little town of Eldora. It was very clean; everything was as advertised. The owner was really easy to work with and full of great energy. We came in early summer, so the wildflowers were gorgeous and there was great hiking right out the door. It's a perfect place to get away and relax - the steam shower is especially nice, and the view from the sun room is wonderful. The town of Nederland was a short drive and had plenty of good places to eat - we liked the Savory Cafe and New Moon Bakery. There was even live music in town, if you're into that. We'll certainly be coming back.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

My family went out with another. 5 kids total between the ages of 3-8. The cabin is so charming with the rustic mountain feel on the main level and the completely new amenities of the upstairs including the master bed and bath! Ski passes worked out so well and the valley is gorgeous and charming. The ownership was very accommodating and friendly even offering a bottle of wine out of their "stash". We were able to see wildlife up close as "Lunna" the wild fox checked in on us a couple of days. The one thing I would suggest is that when Carolee says have a 4X4 to get up the driveway in the winter, she means it. We showed up with snow coming down and ended up with one family at the top of the driveway while the other was carrying their stuff up from the road:)Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

As soon as we opened the door we felt we were on a vacation. The feeling of a cute mountain cabin when you walk in, is soon expanded to the feeling of being at a spa when you walk up stairs to the master bed and bath. The steam shower, oversized jetted tub, sauna and all with radiant floor heat was total spa. The scented salts for the bath and oils for the steam shower were a great addition. The kitchen is well stocked so you don't feel like you are staying at a condo trying to make do with rejected kitchen supplies. Nice touches with flowers, cozy robes and towels made our stay so comfy we did not want to leave! The hiking and scenery from the cabin is amazing. We want to come back during ski season. Our children loved the Tipi.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

This property gives you the best of both worlds, mixing luxury with cozy cabin. We spent a beautiful snowy weekend relaxing next to the wood burning stove, soaking in the jacuzzi tub and reading in the sun room overlooking the stunning valley. This property is perfectly maintained and has everything you need at your fingertips. The town of Nederland is only minutes away that has adorable shops and fantastic food if you want to wonder about, but we could have spent weeks just relaxing in the house. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

Wow, we just needed to get away from the rat race and did we find a great place! It is unique with a portion of building dating back to the Colorado gold mining days and a brand new additon that adds functionality and comfort! A GREAT AMBIANCE! Wildlife abounds, with hiking, mountain biking, fishing and skiing at your finger tip depending on the time of year! I would definitely stay here again. The owners so hospitable and warm people. My family and I truly felt welcome here. The mountain views are just as breathtaking as the home itself. I loved cooking in the kitchen and getting cozy by the fire. The location to the family friendly Eldora ski area is perfect, just a 5-10 minute drive and you are ready to jump on the chairlift. There are plenty of cross county ski and hiking trails just outside the door! Northern Lights us a perfect getaway! My family and I love this home. About the owner: I'm a mechanical engineer by training and trade, and I've been working in the Aerospace industry for the last 25 yrs. designing satelites and scientific instruments for astronomers, climate scientists, and earth remote sensing. I love to ski, climb, run, bike, hike or do just about anything else in the mountains and wildernesses of the world whenever I can. I"ve been lucky enough to travel the world often for work and adventure, and fortunate enough to have my health and good friends to meet some incredible people and experiences along the way. I have a 7 yr. old daughter who is the love of my life and is constantly pushing me towards and reminding me of the priorities and balance I'd like to someday hoepfuly attain and have enough time left to maintain in this wonder we know as life.
Why the Owner Chose Nederland:
Having experienced the wild and natural beauty of the Eldora valley when I was a college student at CU, I always felt a pull to return to the area and wake up to the sound of the nearby river and the views of the mountain every morning. Often, after either a day hike, bike or ski, I would drive through the Eldora valley looking at the mountain homes and imagining what it would feel like to call one of them "home"! Then, by chance, a home that I/we had always been quite fond of came on the market just when I was ready to buy. Within a month I was moving in just as the surrounding Aspen trees were at the peak of their Fall Aspen glow and glory! Heaven on earth!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Perfect silence, gentle wind through the forest, elk slowly meandering through our land, mama fox and her kits playing on the rocks during the early morning hours, black bear on the deck looking for the hummingbird feeder for a sweet snack, the agility, speed and beauty of the hummingbirds flitting furiously during the summer, lulling sound of the river during the spring melt and on through the summer, the night sky kissed with star brilliance everywhere, the rare sighting of our local bobcat calmly and quietly walking along the snow covered ridge, the moose family in the meadow, a chance to observe, appreciate and simply be a part of it all.
