The bunkhouse was everything we hoped it to be...charming, clean, well appointed and quiet with great hosts. We stayed for a week with our dog and had a wonderful time. The bunkhouse even had a vegetable garden that we could pick from. The location is very convenient...close to the center of town as well as to our favorite prepared foods spot, JAM, in Sharon, CT. Our hosts were incredibly welcoming and generous. We'll definitely be back!

Owner response: We were excited about adding the Bunkhouse garden this year and so happy it was so well received! We are hoping to add some fruit to the gardens next year and there are always pickles!
My stay was fabulous!
My stay was fabulous!
I stayed at the Bunkhouse for a girls' weekend at the tail end of the leaf peeping season. We arrived in the dark of night and were immediately enchanted with the bunkhouse. To awake the next a.m. to find the horses out the window only heightened the thrill. Margaret is a charming hostess. We are a trio of Midwestern city women, so the mystique of the Berkshires combined with that of life on a horse ranch was quite a one-two punch. Millerton was an unexpected delight (one of the top 10 hippest small towns), so we had a good choice of food when we wanted to eat out and Margaret stocks a kitchen full of the necessary equipment, which served us well when we ate in. All-in-all, a great weekend retreat.

About the owner: I am a third generation horsewoman and still take in horses for training on a limited basis. I offer workshops, clinics, and private lessons to people seeking to understand their horses better and improve their horsemanship skills. We do not offer horseback riding to guests. I am more than happy to make prior arrangements to spend time with those interested in learning more about horses and the work I do to help people and horses reach a better understanding. We keep a vegetable garden and spend lots of time in our kitchen at harvest time. Our dogs, Pete, a Rat Terrier, and Bessie, an Aussie Shepard, are fast becoming great ranch hands. My husband and I reside on the property year round. We try and get away seasonally for short vacations.
Why the Owner Chose Millerton:
The bunkhouse was originally my father's residence. It was converted into an apartment in 2005 and was rented to full time tenants until the spring of 2010 when we decided to turn it into a guest house for my students and a vacation rental. We've taken special care to turn it into a relaxing, private, and spacious experience. The bunkhouse is just what we would want when we get away. Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway, a group outing, or a place to bring the family, The Bunkhouse is a welcome vacation experience.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The bunkhouse is located at the heart of the ranch which gives you the unique sense of being at the hub of activities while affording privacy. The views from each window are different ranging from horses grazing in pastures, rolling hills and farmland, distant mountains, and the property's gardens and woodland. A walk around the fence lines offers spectacular views of the area farms and woodlands Hike, bike, or cross country ski on the Harlem Valley Rail Trail located less than a mile from the ranch. The trail can take you right into the heart of Millerton or Amenia. The Bunkhouse is only 3.5 miles from the towns of Amenia and Millerton, NY, and Sharon, CT
