Located on 10 private acres of meadows and redwood forest a short drive off the highway, the land is vibrant with deer and birds large and small. This is a peaceful place to relax and recharge. Wine tasting is close by at Anderson Valley's oldest family-owned wineries specializing in Pinot Noir, Alsace varietals, and the best sparkling wines produced in the US. A lovely short drive through the redwoods brings you to the bluffs and beaches of the Mendocino Coast. Nearby Hendy Woods State Park has two groves of ancient redwoods and access to the Navarro River as well as miles of trails, some of which are available for bicycles. Generally pleasant climate year round at the Navarro end of Anderson Valley with coastal breezes without much fog.

Arts and crafts studios and shops nearby. A wide variety of organic food is available locally in season, and a weekend Farmer's Market has everything from olive oil to hand blown glass beads, not to mention the freshest fruits and vegetables.

The recently remodeled cabin has a clean, airy, 16' x 28 ' main room, with a queen bed in the loft. The loft windows look out on the redwoods. It's like sleeping in a tree house--but much more comfy! The tiled bathroom is off a hall. A sleeper chair in the main room pulls out into a comfortable twin-sized platform bed. A pleasant place to stay any time of the year. The sunny front deck overlooks a meadow and the back balcony is a shady place to catch the afternoon breezes.

Convenient to SF Bay Area, about 2.5 hours from Golden Gate Bridge.

My husband, my mother, and I stayed here for a long weekend to attend a family wedding, and were delighted by the cabin. The foldout chair-bed was very comfortable, according to Mom (and as evidenced by her almost immediate quiet snoring every evening), and my husband and I really enjoyed having our semi-private hideaway in the loft bed (with its own little bonus window). The space was the perfect size for us, everything was neat and clean when we arrived, and the kitchen was well-equipped for our purposes -- plenty of nice stoneware, and sufficient pots and utensils to make quick, simple meals. The bathroom is also nicely updated, and we had more than enough towels for all three of us. Overall, I'd say that the perfect balance has been struck between rustic beauty (redwood counters, beamed ceilings, gorgeous wood floors, gas heating stove) and creature comforts (good-quality linens and kitchen supplies, comfortable furniture). The photos don't quite do it justice. The lack of cell service (at least for T-Mobile & AT&T -- I believe Verizon works from the meadow nearby) and Internet actually turned out to be a bonus, as we were free to enjoy quiet mornings without interruption or intrusion from the "outside" world. There was even a flock (gaggle? quorum??) of quail that came down the drive, followed by a small group of deer, while we enjoyed our coffee outside on the deck. Plus, in the height of a very hot August, we revelled in wonderfully cool evenings and mornings. This was such a peaceful, charming hideaway, yet we were within a short drive of all the Alexander Valley wineries, some very good restaurants, Internet cafes in Boonville, and any provisions we needed (small market in Philo, a couple more in Boonville). What a find!

I stayed for five days at this cabin to have some quiet time to write. The cabin is lovely. It is bright - with many large windows and doors, warm - with a gas burning fireplace, and is clearly well cared for. It was clean, stocked with high-quality essentials (organic olive oil, spices, green tea), and lovely dishware and linens. The cabin was free of the clutter I often find annoying in rentals, and I loved that there was no television or internet distractions. The cabin is close enough to cafes with wireless in Boonville if needed. The meadow is private and a nice place to sit and enjoy views of redwood forest and a larger meadow above.

I enjoyed a personal time alone -- to re-boot and renew -- at the cabin for 6 days and nights in mid-January. The space is comfortable, nicely appointed, with wonderful light, and very private. Attention is paid to a healthy and clean environment. I chose to sleep on the fold-out chair, which was very comfortable, rather than the loft. I missed having a microwave, I must admit, and wished there was some sort of window curtaining in the bathroom -- straight view down the drive! -- trifling things when the beauty of the surrounding woods, meadow and indoor environment were considered. Perfect for a retreat. The owner was generous with advice on walks, parks, etc., and friendly although we did not meet in person. Cell phone coverage was not available with my carrier on the property, but I got two bars up the private road just 1/4 mile.

This cabin was the perfect getaway on Labor Day Weekend, especially since we wanted to get away from crowds. This cabin has all the necessary ameneties including complete privacy since it's in an isolated location in the redwoods, yet it's still in the vicinity of other homes up and down the road. Plus it's close to the towns of Philo, Booneville, Navarro, Elk, and other towns along the way to Fort Bragg, There's Cabrillo Lighthouse, redwood groves, rivers, beaches, rock shop, restaurants and stores within easy driving distance, as well. Being at the cabin was awesome---being so close to nature, peaceful, quiet and private in the redwood forest. The only "issue" is the ladder to the bed in the loft which was a little challenging in the middle of the night, but the serenity and beauty of the cabin and its surroundings made up for any inconveniences. When we left we were rejuvenated from our experience of staying at such an awe-inspiring place.

                  Owner info

                  Year Purchased: 1974

About the owner: When I found the property in 1974, it was a completely undeveloped 10 acres of lovely grassland and forest. Over the years, the cabin was built and expanded and I lived there full time for many years. After I married we moved to a larger home nearby, where we still live. My former tenant of 19 years was able to buy a place of her own a few years ago. Rather than renting it out full-time, I thought having a vacation rental would allow me to reconnect with this lovely land without infringing on anyone's privacy. I remodeled the place with that in mind and am slowly augmenting the gardens with native plants. My main interests revolve around conservation.
