Reservation error and logging
Reservation error and logging
We had booked Toad Hall for a week's stay and were greatly looking forward to our family vacation on the property and in the Sooke area. However, when we arrived, we learned that there was a booking error and Toad Hall was not available to us, rather we were booked in Eagle's Nest. Eagle's Nest is a studio accomodation and was not suitable for our family with two teenage sons for week's stay. Although the owner did offer us a 20% off our entire stay or a nice seafood dinner, we sought out other accomodations and only stayed one night. While this error was very disappointing and cost us one day of vacation time, it was resolved to my satisfaction. We received a full refund and were not charged for the accomodation or cleaning fee for the one night that we stayed on the property. However, I do want to note for future guests that the photographs and and property write up are currently incorrect. The write up speaks of the cotage being surrounded by a mature forest and the pictures indicate same. When we arrived, we were shocked to notice the the forest immediately adjacent to the cottage had been logged and instead of standing forest there was cleared land, piled logs, and equipment. Not the scenery we were hoping for when we looked forward to enjoying the deck. This contributed to our decision to not make Eagle's Nest work for our family. My recommendation is the management either revise their photographs and write up of the forest, or notify guests prior to their arrival of the logging.

What a Find!
What a Find!
This estate has been lovingly renovated. The cottage is set in a wonderful garden and its furnishings are charming and comfortable. It even has a washer/dryer. The kitchen has everything you would need in your stay. There is a BBQ and great outside eating area. The estate also has another cottage with a one bedroom apartment and a studio apartment. The views of the water from these two are fabulous. They, too, have been lovingly restored and are beautifully furnished. We loved walking on the grounds and sitting in the garden. We have been recommending this place to our friends and would definitely stay there again.

We were not prepared for this!
We were not prepared for this!
I was first taken by the ad and the description of an "Oceanfront Garden Cottage on 7 Acre Estate." However my family and I were not prepared for how wonderful this property is. The cottage is amazing, well laid out and the perfect size for our needs. Our family compared the gardens to Alice in Wonderland. It is lush, private and a surprise gate, bench or path at every turn. There is a path that leads to a private cove through a forrest of twisted cedars and the ground is overgrown with ferns and moss. The 300+ photos we took (every one is postcard quality) made it worth the price. This will definitely rank up with one of our favorite places that we have ever stayed. We came for a wedding and had no real plans to ever visit Sooke again...we are already making plans to return next summer just to stay here. I would have absolutely no trouble recommending this property to anyone who wants a wonderful escape from it all. The only complaint we had is that we wished we would have stayed an extra week!

Manager response: Thank you so much for your wonderful review of our “Alice in Wonderland” garden. It warms my heart to know that our guests enjoy our place as much as we do. It was always my vision to turn these gardens into a magical place, and strangely enough everyone seems to view them differently. Garden of Eden and fairytale gardens are two descriptions I’ve often heard. I tend to think of them as mystical Irish gardens where one might come across a gnome or a forest fairy at any moment. Part of my plan is to build a dream treehouse, complete with all the conveniences of home, so as you can see, my vision continues to expand. My poor husband worries that I might turn this place into a miniature Butchard Gardens. I have no such ambitions...yet.
