We had a long stay (one month) at this property. The location is great - close to supermarkets and restaurants, many walking distance. There were some very good restaurants in Laurel Street and many different cuisine choices. The house had plenty of space, which worked well for us because we were 3 families all together, flying from different parts of the world. There are 3 sitting areas, a pool in the back (which was great for barbecues), and plenty of parking. Eileen was easily reached and would come over right away when something needs to be fixed. It would be nicer though, if there was another toilet and bath. Our family had a great stay and would rent the property again, if we want to stay in the same area.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.

My husband and I and our 3 kids stayed here for a week and enjoyed ourselves very much. This is a very large home, with a basement level that has 2 bedrooms with queen beds in them, a full bathroom, and a daybed in a little corner of a sitting area. Off the basement is a garage with washer-dryer, and a walk through to the pool. Upstairs is the main house with a sitting room, a dining room, a family room, a kitchen, a bedroom with daybed off the kitchen, then a hallway with a master bedroom (queen bed), a full bathroom with lovely tiled oversize shower, and a bedroom with bunk beds and a crib. The back yard has steps down from the kitchen, a pool, chairs and tables, a shed with a hot tub, a charcoal grill, and a fire pit. The pros: - lots of space! - very clean and well organized, with a kitchen stocked with all utensils, plates, etc, and lots of beach towels, linens, towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap, TP, paper towels, cleaning supplies, napkins, etc. - lovely modern kitchen - lovely, well-decorated upstairs portion of the house - some games and puzzles for kids are stocked - big pool and hottub - very close to freeway, walk to Trader Joes and Lucky supermarket - would be a great place to have a fairly large gathering Cons: - basement bathroom is in need of work; the bottom of the bathtub in the basement has been roughly repaired with cement of some kind. We chose not to use this bathtub, just the toilet, in the basement. The ceiling panel in the bathroom in the basement is pulling away somewhat. The bedrooms in the basement are just fine, however. Our kids slept great there. Note: - One parent should plan on sleeping in the basement if you plan to have younger kids sleep down there, as the master is totally out of earshot of the basement. Or bring a monitor. Overall, we had a great experience and would stay again! Eileen was very easy to work with and the house is just great. You won't regret staying here!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Very spacious, well maintained, convenient location. Excellent kitchen and common areas. The pics don't do it full service. Owner was very responsive and kind. There's a fun little park walking distance away which was a nice additional perk. All in all, good experience - would definitely rent there again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We had a great time at the San Carlos Classic! With 10 people in the house we all felt like we had room to spread out and play around. We had lots of cars coming and going and the house was in a very convenient location. The only draw-back is that there are only 2 showers, so we had to time the early morning showers well. But overall the house is beautiful and the amenities are great! I definitely recommend it for large parties or families.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners.

I and 15 college athletes competed at Stanford the first weekend of march. The renter allowed us to check in early Friday and return after competition Sunday to wash up. We used the hot tube, BBQ, and bonfire pit. There was plenty of room including beds and couches. The kitchen was modern and stocked. Plenty of restaurants and grocery stores nearby. All in all it was an excellent experience. Highly recommendedRecommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We stayed for 8 days and the house was wonderful. The kitchen is renovated and has great space and appliances. The large rooms are spacious and have plenty of room for everyone. The location is perfect with walking distance to the park, grocery and restaurants. The bedrooms are a little small, but work well especially for a family. We did not use the pool as it was a bit cool in October, but it is large and would be very nice to use when warm. The house has good access to the highway and also to the local train station. It is an excellent house and we had a very nice stay.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Traveled to the mansion 11/2011, opting to stay here rather than renting a hotel for a business trip. The house has an amazing kitchen, and has a lot of modern touches, all while keeping a lot of the charm from the 30's. The house is extreemly big, has two living rooms and two dining rooms. It was so much nicer than being cooped up in a hotel room. Thank youf or the great experience!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.

We rented the house for our out-of-town family during the week of our wedding and we couldn't have dreamed of anything better! The house is huge and very comfortable. It is even more beautiful and spacious than the photos could capture! There were perfect spaces for everyone to mingle, either inside or in the back yard, and at the same time lots of privacy, if you want some peace and quiet. The owner, Eileen, was very helpful and friendly and we would happily rent the house again in the future.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

With a wedding in Menlo Park and reception in San Carlos your home was the perfect location. The yard was lovely with a heavily laden apple tree and bougainvillea framing the front entry. The home was clean and comfortable with just enough age to make it charming. We were especially impressed with the kitchen which held every convenience including a restaurant sized range. With the pool and hot tub, the back area was great for outdoor entertaining. We were so pleased with the accommodations and would certainly rent your beautiful home again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers

We are from the UK and stayed for a 4 weeks in this house over the summer 2011 and had the most wonderful holiday. The house was perfect for our needs and is in a great neighbourhood. Although we are a family of 4 we had various relatives staying with us at different time and at the most we had 6 adults and 6 children (ranging from 7-14 years) staying, but the house accommodated all of us very comfortably. The bedrooms were all very well done out and the living rooms were spacious and extremely comfortable. We could not fault the kitchen - it was very well equipped and the range cooker, in particular, was fantastic - it was huge and seemed brand new and was a joy to cook with. The location of the house was perfect as we could walk to the shops and many great cafes and restaurants. Also, very easy to drive to all the great tourist spots such as Monterey, San Francisco, Santa Cruz etc. Eileen was great and very attentive to all of our needs without being intrusive at all. All in all a perfect rental house for large families. The kids loved it and want to go back and live there!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My family had the great pleasure of renting and staying at the "pool house" the week of July 20-27. We came from all over the country to celebrate our niece's wedding. The house had so much space and was lovely. Eileen was a wonderful owner who went out of her way to help us find another house to rent-there were 22 of us! We were so lucky to find this house and Eileen. Wonderful trip...great memories..Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We chose the house for a family reunion. It was perfect, lot's of room for everybody, the pool was an added bonus. The house itself has a great location in a nice neighborhood, walking distance to stores, restaurants and a play ground. Close to SFO airport as well. Good value. The owner, Ms Eileen, is very friendly and accommodating. We would definitely recommend this property.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We had this house for the week of our wedding so that we could have some friends and family stay with us. We had a wonderful time and the house was perfect for our needs. We had anywhere from 4 to 14 people sleeping in the house and it didn't feel cramped at all. The pool was perfect to cool off during the summertime heat, though the hot tub was not very hot (couldn't get above 100 deg). The kitchen was well equipped, we had use of laundry facilities in the bottom level, and there were ample towels, sheets, blankets, etc. Eileen was very responsive during our stay and provided us with anything that was missing. The location is perfect for anyone who wants to spend some time on the peninsula -- easy day trips to SF, close to both airports, right in downtown San Carlos and close to Palo Alto / San Mateo / etc. I definitely recommend this place for small to large family/friend gatherings!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

I’ve rented many houses and have never had as good of an experience as I had with Eileen. The home is wonderful and you can’t beat the location. The kitchen is nicer then my own kitchen and has everything you could want. We all loved the back yard/pool area – it’s very private and has sun until the late afternoon. There was more than enough room and my four year old loved to play in the kids room. Eileen went above and beyond and when/if I need to be at Stanford again I will definitely rent it again!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We spent the long weekend celebrating our son's college graduation, and there were 9 of us in the house. There was so much space! Never crowded -- sometimes we could hardly find one another! The remodeled kitchen/family room were very lovely, and the kitchen seemed to have everything one could reasonably want. Beautiful pool area, but unfortunately the weather was a little too cool -- and we were a little too busy -- for that. The house is a bit unusual in that it seems have been built with some additions, which makes some of it feel "newer" and some of it feel "older"! Lots of TV's located around the house for those who wanted to "chill" and a truly excellent location for restaurants (try Stacks just down the road for breakfast) and grocery needs. A few small negatives -- the house smells a bit musty (can be fixed by opening windows when you first get there) and it would be really nice if there were more furniture in the huge family room, but I know Eileen really wanted input, and is constantly addressing these small things as people bring them up to her. There are a number of stairs to get onto the main floor, so caution for anyone with mobility issues. Eileen was really great to work with, and we would certainly recommend the house for a large group!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My family of 9 stayed in the San Carlos house for 3 nights in April 2011 for a wedding. It was a very spacious and clean house that actually looks like a mansion. My family stayed there very comfortably and no one had to sleep in the living room. The kitchen is probably my favorite part - it was huge and beautiful! The owner, Eileen, was very helpful from the beginning to the end. She was very responsive to my emails and flexible with our schedule. Overall, I couldn't be happier I chose this house for my family - they keep saying they want to visit here again!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

We rented this house to accommodate out-of-town relatives attending our daughter's wedding. It was absolutely perfect for us. Even with 10 people and 2 children staying there, there was plenty of space (large living room, family room, and bonus room) so you could always find a spot for a quiet conversation. Kitchen is up-to-the minute and well equipped, and everything was clean and well-maintained. Owner is extremely friendly and very helpful. This property was clean and well maintained. The photos were accurate. The owner was helpful when questioned and accomodating when asked (I asked about an ironing board and she provided one). After our stay, she found an earring and offered to mail it to us (it was not ours). We were in the Palo Alto area for our son's wedding and chose to stay in this house (over the beautiful hotel chosen by the bride and groom) because we wanted to cook some of our own meals rather than eat all meals in restaurants. This house has a beautifully rennovated eat-in kitchen with everything you need for cooking. We walked to Trader Joe's for groceries. The refrigerator already had items, such as butter, mayo, ketchup, sodas, etc. and that was a nice plus. The main bath was also newly rennovated and beautiful. My husband arrived a day before me and with the owner he helped move the tv and furniture back to their original positions after previous renters had rearranged them. Huge vases of flowers had to be moved to the basement garage because they were leaking water. Later that afternoon while he was away, the lawn was mowed. When I arrived the next day, the house and yard looked impressive. We did not use the pool or yard during our stay as we were busy with wedding activities. We did use and appreciate the washer and dryer. If I had to note any negatives, it would be that the downstairs bath needs to be rennovated (but I imagine there are plans to do this) and I would have appreciated shades or curtains in the master bedroom. I highly recommend this house to any group, except those who cannot do stairs. We enjoyed our stay and found the owner very agreeable.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

The house itself is perfect. Great location, beautifully kept, everything almost worked out great. This would be fine for way fewer people than she claims the house can hold, since the owner is clearly unprepared and a novice at running a vacation house. We were told upfront that cleaning was included and after our stay she said there had been no damages done. Despite this, she ended up keeping an unreasonable amount of our deposit, only after we scrambled to get a hold of her and get her to admit it was ludicrous to keep it all. We were getting married and wanted to use the house as a base for our wedding party since our apartment wasn't big enough to store all the flowers and decorations, etc. We were very up front about the amount of people we were going to have sleeping in the house and she was okay with it. When we left the house, after renting it for a week, everything seemed fine, no damages, nothing broken, we had reliable people in charge of getting our things out on time. However, while on our honeymoon and helpless to do anything about it, we noticed that she had cashed the entire deposit. When we returned, we called her to check in. Had something happened in the remaining 12 hours of our rental? She admitted there was no damage, but apparently the electricity went out after we were gone (huh? Why does that mean she gets to keep the entire deposit?). There was some extra laundry to be done because we had used the towels and the blankets (. . .that came with the rental. Ever been to a hotel that charges you for using the towels they provide? Me neither). There was a butt can outside (admittedly, we should have cleaned that up) and we had moved a few of the couches around and forgot to move them back (also, our bad, we should have done that). Finally, she claimed there were some marks in the driveway. Been there since, I never saw any. We talked with her and came up with a compromise, she said she'd leave a check under the mat of her door. There was a check, but she still shorted us significantly from what we had agreed upon. Never returned our calls. So overall, it is a great house. But the owner was very unprofessional. Very disappointing. It really tainted the experience for us.Owner response: As you can see from other reviews, we have had many families come to celebrate momentous occasions at our house - with no problems. There have been occasional accidents, but I never kept a deposit before. I'm honest with people -- willing to provide anything they need, as well as meet with them prior to renting - to ensure our house is a good fit. This couple came to see our house ahead of time. They said their family needed a place to stay for the week of their wedding. In reality, both their bachelor party and their wedding reception took place in our house. It took 3 of us several days to clean up after, including trips to the dumps to dispose of their garbage. I spoke with them 3 times about the damage. I returned each of their calls. They admitted to leaving a big mess, so I'm not sure why they wrote this review two months later - and embellished the story. The electrical power was blown in our kitchen and hot tub. I cashed their deposit check to hire an electrician, which cost $200. They rearranged our furniture and mashed cigarette butts everywhere (NO SMOKING house). They drove across our lawn and did circles in our driveway, leaving tread marks all over our new concrete driveway. I have no idea how many people stayed - we never even discussed it. We've got beds to sleep 11 people + a crib + 3 couches, as stated on our listing. They made more beds on the floors with all of our extra blankets and sheets. They left equipment from their wedding at our house for 2 weeks - which I kindly kept and gave back - along with the rest of their deposit. I asked them what they thought was fair and they told me that my extra time was worth $10/hour. I only kept the $200 that I paid the electrician. I, too, was disappointed.

I don't usually write reviews, but I had to for this house. We had a "senior games" volleyball team staying at the house, and Eileen could not have been more accommodating. The house is huge, with three "living rooms." All eight of us had our own sleeping space. The location is great if you want to be near Stanford, SF, half moon bay, and still within about an hour to the east bay or Santa Cruz. The weather was perfect, and I wish we had more time to enjoy the house and the pool. It was clean and the kitchen was stocked with a lot of the everyday things you just hate to have to buy when staying at a rental. I definitely recommend this property.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My family and my sister's family had the most perfect Thanksgiving in memory. There were 12 of us and the house easily slept all of us. At no time did it feel crowded or uncomfortable. The kitchen was incredibly well stocked with all the tools, appliances and tableware needed to create a large family dinner. If cooking is not in the plans, there are several restaurants within walking distance. We especially enjoyed the village atmosphere of San Carlos and the Bianchini Market which stocks fabulous cheeses, European cold cuts and an excellent selection of vegetables. While part of our group ventured out to do the tourist thing in San Francisco, several family members decided just to stay "home", as they found the house so comfortable and relaxing. The linens were first class and the beds were topnotch. We were all sad to leave such a lovely house.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I would heartily recommend this house to anybody looking to stay in the Bay Area, down the peninsula a bit. Its location is awesome--very easy access to SFO and Stanford (basically in between both of them), right off the highway but in a quiet, secluded neighborhood. The house is roomy and well maintainted, fairly priced, and the owners are incredibly nice and communicative. This beats a hotel hands down, and we will definitely plan on a return visit next time we have our mini reunion (we had up to 8 people in the house at any one time and there was PLENTY of room).Did you find this review helpful? This home was not only clean and spacious, but close enough to San Carlos downtown and the 101 that we had no problems getting around. Eileen is very helpful and accommodating, setting up a crib for my infant and even apologizing about not having a blanket for the baby (not a problem since she sleeps in a sleep sack). The large kitchen and family room were so comfortable, we spent almost too much time in the home instead of exploring the Peninsula and San Francisco. Even our friends who live in the area were struck by the spaciousness and value when they came to visit us. We enjoyed the home so much we started looking at real estate in the area! We've stayed in many VRBO homes, but this was by far our best experience. We had two families (4 adults and 6 small children) and it never felt 'crowded' in any way. The rooms are spacious and many. We loved the heritage character of the house combined with modern, efficient, amenities. The beds were very comfortable with good linens. The pool and hot tub were an added bonus. Eileen was really great to work with and was always able to help if we had a need. We'll be back! She even put a special lock and alarm on the door leading to the pool!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners.

The house is huge and it is a classic. The Thermador equipped kitchen inspired a number of wonderful dinners for our family gatherings. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this great, centrally located home in the South Bay area and would heartily recommend it to anyone.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

The description was very accurate. 10 people could have slept in this large house. Plenty of room and You could find a place to be alone,it was so large. The kitchen was very large and everything was new. Great stove, frig, and very clean. Hot tub and the pool were clean. Hot was only used once by Me and was inclosed so it could be very private. It was also close to a Trader Joe's, a great plus if You have to stock up for food and wine. Would recommend this house to everyone. It was a perfect stay.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway.
