Beautiful Beachfront Home Away from Home W/ Art Gallery Appeal

Welcome to YOUR home away from home. Apartment 1103 in building #2 is a beautiful, newly renovated, fully furnished, one bedroom one bath apartment that is just the right size for a couple or for a group of up to 4 people. The apartment is on the 11th floor, and has beautiful views of Playa Azul Beach and El Yunque Rainforest.
I am a photographer and artist. When I redesigned the apartment, I wanted to create the feel of a home & art gallery. I also wanted to create a space that was similar to some of the more expensive suites that you might find in nearby resorts like Conquistador or Westin Rio Mar.
Attention to detail is important to me. Therefore, I have included many unique features in the apartment for you to enjoy during your stay. For instance, the floors are made of exquisite Italian ceramic tile, and are reminiscent of the floors in old world Spanish or Italian country homes. I designed the floor of each room different from the next. I have adorned the walls with lots of my own original photographic art work which I periodically change. The photographs are primarily of locations that you might visit during your stay in northeastern Puerto Rico. The curtain rod in the living room and the shower curtain and towel rods in the bathroom are hand cut bamboo from local forests.
The apartment also has all of the usual amenities that you might expect in the Playa Azul Complex, and some extras: plenty of towels and sheets, pull out queen size futon sofa couch which can sleep two additional people, new queen size bed and furniture in the bedroom, 30” flat screen television with cable service and built in DVD player. And for those of you who have a hard time unplugging from the outside world, the apartment also has a high speed WiFi connection.
The apartment is within sight of a cellular tower, so your cell connection should be very strong. Building #2 is also recently renovated, and is very well maintained. The hallways, lobby areas and garbage rooms are kept in exceptional condition. I installed a new clothes washer and dryer combo. Most apartments in this complex require their renters to do their laundry at a local laundromat. So, this unusual feature is convenient for medium and long term renters, and for those of you who travel light and periodically need to wash and dry your clothes.
In short, apartment 1103 has a very warm, personal and inviting atmosphere to it. It is designed to be YOUR home away from home at a reasonable price. Enjoy!

My wife and I had an absolutely wonderful time at Luquillo Beach. Unit 315351 was superb. The views were out of this world. There is nothing like hearing the waves crashing and smelling the salt air around the clock. The unit was clean and spacious. We also loved that there was an in-unit washer and dryer. It definitely helped in managing the powdery white sand. The staff at Playa Azul was amazing and made our stay extremely pleasant. They had recommendations for everything from things to do to awesome local eateries. Every recommendation was spot on. This place is so convenient to Fajardo's adventures and the rainforest of El Yunque. If you are more of a city type, it's only a short drive to San Juan. However, for my wife and I, Playa Azul was so beautiful and relaxing that we spent the majority of our time there and in the surrounding areas. Overall, our experience was awesome! We hope to return again and again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We did a girls trip and had a great time! The apartment was spacious enough for the 4 of us. We cooked often, did laundry, and enjoyed the great great airy breeze. The security was very nice. You definitely need a car to get around as old san juan is about a 40 minute drive. The rain forest is very close and only a few minute drive. My only concern was the rental realty. Booking was a hassle. My calls often went unanswered and getting in touch with someone was very difficult. But, upon arrival, everything went smoothly. I was refunded my deposit as promised. :)Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We had a great time on our honeymoon! It had everything we needed, with the exception of food, hand soap, paper towel... etc., but those are just minor details. We stayed for 11 days so we would have needed those things anyway! The apartment was clean when we got there. The bed was made, the living space clean and the bathroom ready to go! The location is perfect! You are literally 45 minutes away from San Juan, 20 minutes away from Fajardo and near some of the most beautiful beaches on the island (in my opinion). The rainforest is in your backyard, as is the beach! There are tons of places to eat at, especially the kioskos, and your normal stores (CVS, WalMart, etc) are right down the street if you need them. I love this place and can't wait to come back! We hope to make it a yearly trip for us, we love it that much!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Glad you had a great time and am looking forward to your return next year.

Overall, my husband and I enjoyed our stay in Luquillo. We thought the location was great. About 40 minutes from San Juan and the beach was wonderful. A grocery store is across the street and don't miss the kiosks just up the road. Very close to Fajardo and El Yunque. The apartment was comfortable. An older building, but was quiet and we were a very short walking distance to beach. There is only air conditioning in the bedroom, which is typical in Puerto Rico. Most of our time was spent outside, so this was not really an issue for us. Plus, we visited in November, which obviously is not as hot as summer months. The living area was very clean and well decorated. Plus the view from there is great. The bathroom and kitchen look to be original to the building (read: could really use updating). The bathroom sink was rusty and the drain was slow. If you plan on cooking, note that the kitchen is small. Has coffee maker, microwave, and toaster. There are also dishes/glasses/pots/utensils. But you'll need to buy garbage bags, paper towels, napkins, and anything else you would need in a kitchen. There is also a washer/dryer in the kitchen which looked fairly new and definitely came in handy. My overall rating is average because of the need for updates in what I consider key parts of a rental: bathroom and kitchen.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+.
Owner response: I am glad you had a great time, and thanks for the constructive comments. Over the past several years I upgraded the entire apartment except for parts of the bathroom which I plan to do in 2013. Hope to see you again soon!!!!!!

What a super spot for sounds of the surf and snorkeling! This condo was perfect for us. Watching and listening to the surf from the balcony was so enjoyable. The louvered windows made it feel like we were outside all of the time. The breezes were so lovely. Sometimes you go somewhere and you look around and say, "I wish we had stayed there, instead of here." While enjoying a walk on the beach early on, I realized that Plaza Azul is the best location and that this condo is just right for us. We picked Luquillo because it was rated "the best beach to snorkel off of", and it did prove to be quite good in a couple of spots, the best of which is by the white bouy not far off the shore at the left end of the beach, looking out. There is a giant reef that surrounds the main Luquillo Beach, and the spot is on the east end of that reef. We also loved watching the boogie boarders off of Playa Azul and the surfers on the beach to the east. We had an excellent meal every evening....so many restaurants and kioskos to choose from. The pool was great, and we snorkeled off a catamaran out of Fajardo. We visited the rainforest twice - too cool. We would return to this condo with the gorgeous photography anytime!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We loved the view of the beautiful ocean (11th floor is perfect!) and especially the oftentimes "roaring" sound of the waves! The property was very clean, staff very friendly. The owner and property manager were great! The kiosco named La Parelli is the BEST! Also the Brass Cactus and Little Tree Frog (or a name something like that) all within walking distance, are excellent choices for dining out. The bed is very comfortable, although the futon couch in living area is very hard. Never saw a bug the entire 10 night stay (anywhere actually) and never closed the windows and sliding door. We drove to the West coast of the island (Rincon) and although it is touted as having the best beaches in PR, we liked it right there in Luquillo just as much. While I choose not to share some of our disappointing experiences regarding the location and PR in general, overall we loved it and want to return to this same condo! On our last day there, we looked at a few other units in the other buildings, none of which were nearly as nice as this one. This particular building best of the three as well.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My kids and I enjoyed this beautiful location on Playa Azul. The condo is clean and has a view that warms the heart. The beach is not busy and it has all the beauty and tranquility that one hopes for when traveling to the island of Puerto Rico. The management company was accomodating and friendly. The moment we arrived at the condo we were invited to join a party that was occurring. Playa Azul has just enough wave action to make boogie boarding a blast, yet when you walk to the next bay there is a quiet, calm sandy beach to laze on. The other direction contains waves good enough for surfing, which we attempted with a wonderful instructor, Brian Ramos. We enjoyed some good local food and conversation at the Balnearios Kioscos a short distance from the condo. We hiked to La Mina Falls in El Yunque Rainforest, and kayaked Laguna Grande, the bioluminescent bay. We look forward to returning to this piece of heaven again soon. Gracias.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

The condo is very pretty, has an ocean view and while not actually "on" the water, it is quite close and you hear the waves all night. It is nicely decorated. The building seems to be very secure -- there is a guard downstairs and the residents appear to be mostly either retired people or other vacationers. It is convenient to all of the beaches in the Luquillo area. We did not swim at Playa Azul because we have a small child and read that there is a riptide there (we did see a number of young people -- in their 20s and 30s -- swimming there, so people do use the beach, just not recommended for little kids or weak swimmers we understand). However you are 5 minutes away from Playa Luquillo which is perfect for families with small children. The real estate office and the owner of the condo were easy to deal with. Also close to Fajardo (15-20 minute drive) which has another beach, a marina with boats for hire, and some nice restaurants. All in all a very nice, easy experience. We planned this vacation at the last minute and all went smoothly with the condo.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: There are three amazing beaches within walking distance from the apartment: Luquillo Beach, Playa Azul Beach, La Pared Beach. The most famous of these beaches is Luquillo Beach. The beach is very long, and very wide and the water is always very calm like a lake. It is the ideal beach to enjoy for persons who like calm water. There are also many places to eat along this beach. Playa Azul Beach is directly in front of the apartment. During high seas, the majority of the beach is rough and can be dangerous in certain locations. There are some areas on this beach that are always calm. In general, this is a great beach for body and board riders and for those who like to ride the waves. La Pared Beach (translated: "The Wall Beach") is a short walk from the apartment into the town of Luquillo. It is a great beach for everyone. It is has the best waves for surfers and is also great for families to enjoy. During high seas, some sections of the beach are calm and some sections are rough. One of my favorite beaches is called Seven Seas Balneario. It is always very calm and has the most picturesque views on the island. It looks like some of the beaches you find in Fiji and in the South Pacific. It is located about 20 minutes by car on the road to El Faro Lighthouse. I recommend that you take the long walk down the beach toward the lighthouse. The best views are located half way down the beach at the first little peninsula.

Management at the facility was very attentive. The apartment was in fantastic condition, just like the pictures. The view from the balcony is stunning. The beach is very nice. Cool sea breeze with warm, clean waters and the softest golden sand your feet will ever touch. The pool is large, clean, with warm water and great spot to hit after hanging out at the beach. The apartment is conveniently located. Supermarket, pharmacy and various restaurants at walking distance ( 5 - 10 min.). Short car drive to nearby attractions i.e. El Yunque National Forest, the town of Fajardo where you can see the bioluminescent bay or take the ferry to one of the nearby Cays and of course the Kioskos, where you can try some of the best food PR has to offer. To sum it up, I would definitely recommend staying at this wonderful apartment. It is comfortable, cozy, affordable and comes with all the amenities. A true pleasure. I can't wait to return!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We spent 5 days in this condo as part of our anniversary trip. Everything about the condo was perfect and just as expected from the description (in fact, although the pictures are beautiful, everything was even better in person). The owner and the building management were responsive and very easy to work with from the first contact, and they accommodated us for a very late arrival. As a self proclaimed clean freak, the condo was very clean and absolutely met my high standards. Everything was in order the bed was incredibly comfortable, we slept great all week. It is tastefully decorated without being overdone or underdone (like many beach rentals) it just felt comfortable. The view from the patio and living room is gorgeous and the ocean breeze through the open windows was all we needed to stay cool all week. I started each day with a coffee and fresh fruit on the patio, looking out over the bright blue ocean. Gorgeous! The owner has thought of everything to make it more comfortable from a body board and beach umbrella to sand pail and shovel and lots of quality linens and towels. This condo is perfect for a couple that gets bored staying at an all inclusive resort. We rented a car and found it easy to get around, We went to Fajardo, where we did a sailing/snorkeling day trip, a kayak trip through the mangroves and biobay and went out for a nice dinner. We walked to the famous kiosks on Rt. 3, it was a long walk via the beach but a nice one which we visited a couple of beaches and walked out in the shallows by the fishing boats along the way. We stayed at a B&B in the rain-forest and hiked in El Yunke National Forest (the rain forest which you can see from the front balcony) and we spent 2 days in Old San Juan before we drove out to Luquillo. All of our outings were very convenient to this condo, I don't think we spent more than 20 - 40 minutes in the car for any trip. We felt very safe in the condo community and at the beach, the security guards were very pleasant and always present. We went out for dinner in the town of Luquillo and tried a couple of local places recommended by the locals we met at the condo. I would highly recommend this condo to any friend or relative and will likely rent this unit again. We did not bring our kids for this trip, but did notice that this condo community is very kid friendly.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Glad to hear you had a fantastic time. The northeast is full of things to do for all ages, and the beaches are the finest and least crowded on the island. Luquillo is a great location from which to explore what I consider to be the best part of island. In the "Map and Owners Profile" section of my VRBO listing I have indicated some of the better places to visit in this area. Many of the pictures in my listing also correspond to these AMAZING locations. I look forward to seeing you soon again!!!

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1996
About the owner: I have indicated on the map below some of the more interesting locations to visit. Some of these locations correspond to the photos that I have posted. I am a professional photographer and I live in the Washington DC metro area. I lived in Puerto Rico as a teenager, and purchased this property as a vacation home away from home. When I purchased the property in 1996, my goal was to create a very inviting space that my family and my clients would enjoy and would want to return to in the future. I recently redesigned the place like a home and and art gallery. I invite you to enjoy the beauty of the space and place. Mi casa es su casa. Click the 'Hybrid' map mode to see in more detail my recommended locations to visit.
Why the Owner Chose Luquillo:
I purchased this property in the Playa Azul Condominium complex because of its strategic location on the northeartern tip of Puerto Rico. It is only 30 - 45 minutes from the international airport, and from the San Juan metro area and everything the city has to offer. Building #2 is very well maintained and the grounds are beautiful. The complex and surrounding areas offer something for everyone. It is a geat place to get away and relax. I have indicated all of my favorite locations on the map for your reference.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
The surrounding beaches are rarely overrun by tourists, which makes it a great place for couples or even families who want a quiet atmosphere. The number, variety and quality of beaches within walking distance and 15 minutes by car is exceptional. El Yunque Rainforest is within eyesight of the condo and offers an unparalled opportunity to explore and enjoy a one-of-a-kind tropical rainforest. In this part of the island, the number of activities available to you is limitless. Some of my favorite activities include surfing at La Pared Beach, short hikes along the beach to and from Luquillo Beach Balneario, El Faro Lighthouse guided tour, sail on Fajardo Bay, long hikes along the beach at Seven Seas Balneario. In my opinion, Seven Seas is the most photogenic and beautiful beach in Puerto Rico. During the week it is usually empty. I also recommend taking a private sail on Fajardo Bay to Palominito and Icacos islands. Please contact me for more details.
