This was a wonderful cabin tucked away on the owner's property. My girlfriend and I wanted to leave NYC for the weekend, and it was a quick 2 1/2 hr drive away. The cabin was SO CLEAN. Fran does a wonderful job. There is everything you need, kitchen utensils, bath towels, plenty of pillows and blankets. It was great to be in the woods, we saw deer on the property a couple of times. There is a beautiful river that runs behind the cabin and it has two waterfalls that are within walking distance. We went to Hudson a few times during our stay, it is only a 15 min drive away and there is plenty to do--good food at baba louie's, awesome bar/bookstore called the spotty dog, and fun dancing at night at the half moon. We plan to come back in the summer time and bring friends!Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My roommates and I decided to take a quick weekend vacation out of Brooklyn and were so lucky to find Fran and Peter's cabin to stay in. The cabin itself had everything you could possibly need, lots of room for guests to sleep, a really nice porch on the back overlooking the woods and a creek, and overall contributed immensely to our nice trip north. Fran and Peter were very welcoming and I would highly recommend a vacation to stay in their cabins. We all hope to be back sometime in the Spring or Summer to enjoy other activities in the area!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Immaculate and well-appointed, this cabin had lots of charm on the outside but was new and clean on the inside. All the appliances you would expect in a modern home including Satellite TV. Beds were were very comfortable and the layout accommodated four single people easily.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The cabin was immaculate! The landscape was beautiful. We saw deer, played in the creek with our 4 year old, marveled at the waterfall, cooked out on the grill, went for walks with the dog, and swam at the nearby Lake Taghkanic Park. Fran was fantastic -- we knew she was there for us, but she was not at all intrusive. I just can't say enough great things about this place. Thank you!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

We were only able to stay two nights, but we totally enjoyed the cottage. It was clean, comfortable and very cozy. The owners provided everthing we needed... comfortable beds, big fluffy towels, plenty of great movies to watch and lots of peace and quiet. My teenage son really liked the upstairs loft and spiral staircase. I look forward to visiting in the summertime and try our hand at fishing. I'm sure it's lovely that time of year. About the other cottage...it's far enough away that even if someone had been staying there (which there wasn't), it would not have mattered one bit. You really had the feeling of being away from it all, in a secluded, woodland setting. What a wonderful cottage!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Cottage A was a lovely woodsy retreat for us two people and two dogs. All four of us loved traipsing around the nearby streams and waterfalls, hiking trails and the state park (a drivable distance away). The cottage itself was clean and cozy, and the kitchen was fully stocked with cookware and utensils. We slept and ate very well. Fran was very helpful and accommodating, with advice on what to do and where to go. Would absolutely stay here again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This cabin was perfect for a natural and quiet get-away. The setting is ideal, with a waterfall and stream flowing through the heavily wooded property. The cabin is cozy, comfortable and exceptionally clean! Lots of deer come to visit. The owners are friendly and very easy to work with. We look forward to a return visit.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is a great little cottage in the woods, behind a beautiful farmstead. It was IMMACULATELY clean and well appointed with sheets/blankets/towels, etc., as well as a helpful book of tips by the owner about the surrounding area. The location is great as well - about 10mins away from the lake and 20-30 from Hudson, where we visited the Saturday farmer's market. (We also recommend the short drive to Hernondale Farm -- off 82 on Wiltsie Bridge Rd -- for some fantastically fresh, organic, grass-fed local steaks and chicken that we brought back and cooked on the grill.) The one thing about the cabin to be aware of: there are actually 2 cabins right next to each other (less than 100 yards). We were lucky that no one was staying in the 2nd cabin when we were there. If they had been, I don't think it would have had the same lovely, isolated, woodsy feel. Still, all in all, it was a great visit!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: In response to the two cabins next to each other, to date I have not had two different families renting at the same time, I do my best to schedule my guests so this does not happen, and if it does my cabins have their own yard and own driveway and alot of land to still have a relaxing and peaceful vacation.

My husband, six month old baby, our dog and I stayed in the cabin for a Holiday Weekend. Everything was immaculately clean, and very well thought out. We really felt we had everything we needed and more. Our dog l(pug) loved the grounds and just wanted to run around. We saw deer every morning and enjoy nature. Fran was really nice and helpful. Highly recommend and hope to be back soon. Thank you,Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I have to say that the cabin absolutely exceeded my expectations. It was clean, cozy, and very well maintained. Fran and Peter literally had everything you can think of which was great for preparing meals and all (thanks a bunch!). It really was so no nice being in the middle of nowhere, which made for a great little weekend getaway with my boyfriend. I hope we can return back sometime soon!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a great visit in this cottage! Everything was sparkling clean and comfortable. The location of the cottage was perfect for us, close to the Taconic Parkway (but you feel miles away), 25 mins from Great Barrington, and very close to Hudson. Also very close to state parks. The actual property is also beautiful. Lots to do in this beautiful part of the country. There are actually two cottages that are nearby one another, and it would be so fun to rent both for a couple of families (I believe both are for rent). The pictures shown are from both cottages. We stayed in a cabin with one bedroom with a queen size bed and a loft with two singles. There are also sofabeds in the living room. This worked out fine, but be aware there is a spiral staircase going up to the loft which caused me a little trepidation with my two young kids. However, I easily blocked it off and they were really good about calling us to help them up and down. We had a wonderful time and plan on returning in the summer!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone who is looking for a very private, beautiful and extremely comfortable environment! Lots of space for walks. We saw 4 deer on one of those walks! A large enclosed porch spans the whole back of the cottage for extra relaxation (especially with the sound of the flowing river below). Inside is very spacious and clean, Fran and Peter have done a spectacular job making sure everything you could possibly need is right there. The sheets and towels were better than any 5 Star resort! My boyfriend, myself, my 2 adult children, and our dogs, spent a weekend that we will be talking about for a long time! We have already talked about making it an annual event! Is the year up, yet?!?! Fran, thank you for your warm hospitally, and sharing your piece of heaven! The Happy Tenants, Bill, Jane, Renee, Garon and furry friends P.S. We loved the movie (sniffle).Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Fran and Peter were probably the 2 nicest renters out there. The cabin, situated on their HUGE amount of acreage, was immaculately clean and private. If you are afraid of wilderness, this probably is not the place for you. We were looking for a private place to spend our weekend, and were nervous how close the neighbors would be. Forget it- we didn't even see any neighbors the entire time! Fran and Peter were very accommodating and respectful, allowing us complete privacy. I truly enjoyed meeting both of them, and learning a little more about the history of their property!! Very secluded and RELAXING. We cooked dinners and sat outside, enjoying the mountain air. I can't count how many times my boyfriend said, "I could sit here forever, I don't want to move." We even saw some deer out side the screen in porch one morning! The cabin was SO clean. The sheets smelt so nice. 100's of different DVD's are available to borrow, just call Fran or Peter and ask!! Extremely clean shower, towels, dishes, sinks...you name it. I'm recommending this place to every one! I wish we could've stayed longer. I truly cannot wait to return....we already started talking about planning our next trip up!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our family of five enjoyed our four day vacation with our beagle. We all enjoyed hiking and exploring the area. The cottage was clean and well-maintained. The owner is helpful and willing to answer all questions. There are many amenities in the cottage including 3 televisions and dvd players. Extras were provided that I usually have to pack, for example, sheets, towels, soap, paper towels,......... A good trip is the nearby state park where we rented a rowboat. We would recommend this property!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway.
