Leavenworth, Washington is a tourist hotspot attracting visitors from around the world. It is a Bavarian-themed village and just by walking out the front door, you will encounter flower-strewn horse-drawn carriages, charming shops tended by shopkeepers in traditional Bavarian costumes (dirndl skirts and lederhosen), and a magnificent view of the Cascade Mountains on every side. The Front Street Park and Gazebo right across the street features entertainment such as chamber music, dancing, and even a Master Yodeler!
The local summer theatre is in full swing with offerings at several venues, including some outdoor theatres. The Sound of Music is playing outdoors at the Ski Hill Amphitheatre on August 3, 6, 11, 13, 17, 20, 25, 28, and 29, 2010. Crazy for You is showing on August 5, 7, 10, 14, 19, 21, 24, and 27th at Hatchery Park. The Festhalle is within a block of the Alpen Dorf and currently is showing How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying on August 4, 7, 12, 14, 18, 21, 26, and 28th. Coming in December is Amahl and the Night Visitors. The Holidays in Leavenworth are spectacular with Tree Lighting Ceremonies and unique gift shopping possibilities. Horse-drawn sleigh rides are available as well!
