The Happy Clam is a stylish comfortable home with walls of windows, including a two story great room. This makes for wonderful viewing of the water and sky. Inspiring in any kind of weather. The location is ideal:
* sits right on the quiet south jetty with great views from the bay to the ocean - birds and seals are constantly in view as are fishing boats cruising by
* is at the epicenter of fun stuff, all within walking distance - a serene beach, clam beds, biking, pier for crabbing, marina, Rogue Brewery, marine attractions including the fabulous Aquarium, restaurants, shops, glass blowing, bike trails and miles of beach.
* is wonderfully comfortable for a great night's sleep, lounging, and fully equipped for fun activities including games, ping pong, pool table, foosball
* close to fun festivals, 5 min. walk to WINE AND SEAFOOD FESTIVAL and others.
5 BEDROOMS TOTAL with addition of main floor apartment or:
MAIN HOUSE (Sleeps up to 11): The main part of the house is on the second and third level which is also why the views are so good. There we have 3 bedrooms (1-King and 2 Queens) plus a bunk room (very small room with bunk beds) and a loft area with a pull-out couch (full). The bedrooms all have walk-in closets and baths. There are 3 HDTV's and plenty of couches and chairs. The master bedroom has a double walk-in closet, so large we put a twin mattress in one side for an extra sleeping place.
The dining table seats 8 (10 can work) and the kitchen counter seats 3. The kitchen is stocked with dishes, pans, pots, cutlery, spices, flour, sugar.
APARTMENT (Sleeps 2): We have recently remodeled a space on the first level of the home into a cheerful downstairs apartment. It has a bedroom with a queen bed, a bath, a small living room and kitchen plus another HDTV. We do not rent this separately but it can be added to the main house. With this, The Happy Clam can easily open up handle up to 13 people. It's nice to have this space for those that are bit noisier or need more quiet time -- depending on the group.
The Happy Clam is great for smaller families and is also perfect for expanded family get-togethers, retreats, book and other clubs, reunions, birthday or other special days (including surprises) - or just plain getting away from the routine. There is no bad season to hang at the Happy Clam. It's always relaxing and never boring.

The happy clam was clean and bright.... perfect for our family gathering. We used the upstairs and also the cozy downstairs apartment. There is plenty of space in the home for people to gather together or have some alone time too. We all thought the house was actually nicer than it looks in the listing photos. It was a fun and easy walk along the jetty to the beach and we all enjoyed walking over to the brewery for dinner one evening. We hope to stay there again sometime and would recommend it to others.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

When we went around the table at the end of the year and asked everyone what their favorite vacation was this year my wife said, "the Happy Clam in Newport." Amazing, amazing time for granny to be with all the great grandkids and grandchildren. We celebrated my 73rd birthday and my daughters 44th. All our needs and more were provided at the Happy Clam. What a great place for our family summer get together. 5 cousins had a blast collecting rocks & shells, playing foosball and ping pong. The plays we put on were memorable. When my daughter says family she is talking about 4 generations from 4 yrs old to 75 yrs. The Happy Clam was perfect for all of us. The Whale watching trip, Sea Lion Caves and the Aquarium were wonderful. It was great to come "home" to the Happy Clam. Such an interesting, delightful, location.Did you find this review helpful? We had the most amazing vacation ever!!! Now that we have stayed at the Happy Clam, we can't imagine a family vacation anywhere else. The views are phenomenal adn what a great people watching location. Highly recommend the Marine Discovery Tour if you have your meds with you or even if you don't! There are some great silly photo opps at the Aquarium Village, just past the Aquarium. Again, we are very fortunate to have stayed here and hope to come back soon! It must be a good sign when you don't know the date! The Happy Clam was ideal for our family vacation. The grandchildren had a great time crabbing..a first for all of us native Californians. We are thrilled with the Newport kite store and the excellent opportunities to watch them soar. Even the gentle rain last night was a pleasure to feel and hear. About the owner: We've been coming to Newport for many years for vacations and shared a home with many other families near Nye Beach. When we found this home on South Beach we were overjoyed to find such a great house, with wonderful view and in an incredible location.
Why the Owner Chose Newport:
We used to climb down big cliffs to get to the beach. Now we can walk one direction on a flat road along the jetty to the beach or go the other direction to the pier and marinas and aquarium. It's truly a great spot -- always something interesting to look at. The kids love to throw crab pots off the pier or just find treasures on the beach or out in front of the house when the tide is low.
I get a kick out of watching the seals and the birds splashing and diving.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The house has lots of windows and light - so even if it's winter, there's usually good light or at least lots of weather to look at. Some of the best weather in Newport can be in January and February. The master is as large as the living room so it's like having two living spaces. There's a big screen TV in the living room and the master bedroom. We sometimes send the kids up to the master and the adults stay in the living area so it's nice to have that separation of space sometimes. Each bedroom has a walk-in closet so the clothes can be hidden from the bedroom and it's more relaxing that way. Also each of the bedrooms has a bathroom attached.
