  Regarding the units, it was easy for us to assign them to the members of our party. We popped for the Stonegate bill, so we took the master unit. Everyone else seemed to gravitate toward the units most appropriate to their families. If a number of couples travel together to Stonegate, it would be advisable to roll the dice for unit assignment, as some units are more elaborate or have better views than others. This is not greatly important, however, since the kitchen, great room, and pool are the hang out areas and all have fabulous views. Stonegate is on a small mountain peak and gets wonderful breezes. Most of us used no air conditioning due to the excellent ventilation. The one unit under the kitchen does not get the great breezes and air conditioning was used there for sleeping. The Messicks suggested that we might want to use the heating system at night, but we did not find that to be necessary. The ceiling fans and open windows in most of the bedrooms made the rooms delightful for sleeping. The complex is centrally located on the island, making it easy to get just about anywhere. Some St. Thomas Pointers Driving on the left is not hard to get used to. The locals are used to tourists and are polite and helpful when you get stuck trying to pull into traffic. The people of St. Thomas are very charming. Food and fuel are expensive on the island. You will need to plan accordingly. The Messicks have a helpful book in the kitchen that has excellent suggestions for dining and food shopping. If you are looking for a full service grocery, go to Pueblo. We were surprised that this was never mentioned in the Internet chatter on St. Thomas. All of us felt it was clearly the best choice for full service grocery shopping. Beef is very expensive. Seafood, pork, and chicken are better choices here. You can’t drive fast on the island due to the terrain and everything is nearby, so the actual amount of fuel used is pretty minimal. We had excellent meals at Duffy’s Love Shack in Red Hook, Pizza Amore (recommended by the locals) in the Havensight area, and Greengos American Cantina in the Hibiscus Passageway just off the main drag in downtown Charlotte Amalie. We ate at the Northside Bistro for an adult’s night out. It was also very good. Restaurant prices here are also slightly higher than stateside, although not much different from better restaurants in the States.

  The "Divided by Ten" couples group from MN, SD, ND & WY stayed at Stonegate for the first time last week. Upon our arrival we immeditely decided this is the perfect location for our yearly trip to St. Thomas and we've arranged it already for next year! While the video does a good job of showing the property - it is nothing like being there in person. This place is absolutely breathtaking, relaxing and amazing. It's hard to explain in words just how wonderful it is, you just have to experience it first hand. Bob & Michelle are so wonderful to work with and I'm jealous that they own this!! HL and Lorena were so very helpful with questions and overall just very pleasant people. Only 348 days until we go back!!!!! P.S. Our group has stayed in individual villas and a waterfront house - we 100% choose to go back to Stonegate.

  My family stayed at Stonegate over Christmas this year. We had a wonderful time! The place was exactly what we expected. It was nice having someone meet us at the airport and buy a few groceries for us in advance. The owners (Bob and Michelle) were very helpful and gave us alot of info and recommendations, ie grocery store, taxi cab driver etc, which were very handy. The place was gorgeous and had beautiful views! We will go back another time for sure.
