I knew Bluffton had a charm all its own. It is nestled between the bluffs of Lake Michigan and the shores of Muskegon Lake. During the vaudeville era is was the summer resort area for Buster Keaton and other vaudeville luminaries. Hence, the name “Actors Colony” originated and is used to this day. There is evidence of street car rails on Thompson Street adjacent to Cherry Street. The homes are all different; to say, older, remodeled and with much character. I purchased this property in 1999 and used it for a monthly rental several years. However, at some point, I realized it could be a great weekly vacation property. I had a desire to improve it and develop its potential. I have had fun decorating and creating an environment where people will enjoy themselves and want to return.

This was a last minute vacation and the home was available. It is a very cute house with lots of room and decorated very nicely. I felt right at home. It was close to the beach at Lake Michigan and we walked there several times. It was easy to get to and a perfect location between White Lake and Grand Haven., We loved the fact that there was a fire pit in the back yard and sat outside and enjoyed the cool weather, a bottle of wine and a great fire. Thanks so much for allowing us to stay...I hope to do it again real soon!Owner response: Thanks for this fabulous review! Join us again next season or before. Best wishes - Linda

One has to wonder how they will ever look at a sunset the same. Or watch a storm coming off Lake Michigan. Or, ever hear a Van Morrison song the same. Everything is better here at Cherry House. Everything you need is right here. Everything! The neighbors were kind. The breeze at night was amazing and it's all here in this house. Would be so easy to stay. I wouldn't change a thing. Thank you so much for your kindness and warmth. And thank you for Cherry House. Warmly,Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Linda - thank you ! We are so glad we found this house available on short notice so we could surprise our family. Our kids appreciated the s'mores. Our dogs loved the yard. We enjoyed our margaritas on the deck here and at CJ's on the beach! It was a long way to come for a Lobster Taco Wrap! But, the looks on everyone's faces when we arrived unplanned - priceless. We may see you again next summer. It was fun!!:)Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

What a wonderful place to stay for the Holiday. Everything I needed was here. The neighborhood was great. Christmas carolers on December 22nd. Then street luminaries on Christmas Eve. Cookware was plentiful. My son and I spent a very pleasant December and New Year's here. Thank you Linda.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Everybody was great! We appreciated many pots and pans in the kitchen - we cook a lot. Your place is very functional. The only minor suggestion is adding a few clocks around the house and kitchen scissors. Julie, the gardener, is a treasure! She was very awesome. She checked on us a couple of times and made sure we had everything. Thank you, we will be back next year.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Quaint neighborhood full of history! Weather was unseasonably warm for december which warranted many walks in the dunes and on the beach. What impressed me the most was that everything was furnished ... A months worth of toilet paper and laundry detergent for the washer and dryer. All the cookware and utensils you could possibly need and china to feed an army. Nice cookware too! The house was full of antiques. My son and I stayed here four weeks during the holidays and on Christmas Eve the entire neighborhood lit the sidewalks with luminarires and there was christmas carolers the Saturday before Christmas. A great place to stay year around.Owner response: Thank you for this wonderful review. We aim to please and listen to all our guests and their comments. Once again, thanks and we hope you return again soon. Linda

Quaint, older home in fairly quiet neighborhood. Very well maintained house. Great location near 2 beautiful beaches (Lake Muskegon and Lake Michigan). Can walk easily to both. Enjoyed using the fire pit and grill every day. Went for a nice bike ride using bikes in garage. Saw amazing sunsets. Our dog enjoyed the backyard too. Owner was easily available for any assistance. Very relaxing time. However we found Muskegon generally to be a very desolate area (very few stores, businesses, restaurants, etc). Too bad -- it has a lot of potential because of the 2 lakes but it is not thriving.Owner response: The beautifully stunning area of west Michigan is what draws tourists. We are home to some of the most highly rated beaches in the world. Ten years ago we had a covered mall in the downtown district. It was torn down when the Lakes Mall took over as the area shopping destination. Our downtown district is in the process of revitalization. Again, I encourage travelers to use the Chamber of Commerce Muskegon website to locate points of interest, shopping, restaurants and much, much more. We also leave our contact numbers for all guests should they need assistance.

Listing description was very accurate. Home is quite old as are furnishings. However all are very well maintained and clean. Owner is extremely helpful and available to answer all questions. Neighborhood is ok. House is conveniently located within walking distance of both Lake Muskegon and Lake Michigan. Loved the outdoor grill and fire pit. Used both daily. Our dog enjoyed the backyard too. If you are only interested in spending time together, walking to really nice beaches, seeing great sunsets, then this place is well-suited for you. If you want an area that has lots of shopping, restaurants, lively downtown, then find another area. We found Muskegon to be very desolate.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, families with young children.
Owner response: Chamber of Commerce website is a terrific place for a traveler to locate points of interest. This web page address is located in all our rental agreements. The site lists shopping, restaurants, golf, entertainment and much more. The towns of Grand Haven (south) and Whitehall (north) have small downtown districts. These towns are a 20-minute drive from the cottage. Muskegon has the Lakes Mall at Sternberg Road exit on I96. Baker Culinary College located in the heart of Muskegon has a wonderful and affordable restaurant open to the public. We have several small boutique shops scattered throughout the downtown area. In addition, Lakeside has a small shopping district. Guests come to enjoy the beautiful beaches, water and sunsets.

Nice, clean vacation home on a quiet street located walking distance to both Lake Muskegon and a lovely clean beach on Lake Michigan. Two bedrooms upstairs - one with two queen beds and one with good sized bunk beds. One bedroom on main level with a queen bed. Kitchen has all the pots and pans (and several small appliances) that you could ever need. House is very well equipped and comfortable. Backyard is fenced but not completely enclosed (in case you plan to let your dog run free!) Firepit and good-sized gas grill make for nice evenings in the backyard. There's a small (party ?)store nearby. Linda was great - communicated well and answered my many questions before our arrival, and was very prompt returning the security deposit. We were a family of 4 young adults, 2 (slightly) older ones, an infant and a small dog.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

About the owner: Hello—I’m Linda Wood. I grew up in Muskegon and have worked in the real estate business for over 30-years. Remodeling and managing have been my primary talents. The two Cherry House properties are my only weekly rentals. It has been a great deal of fun for all of us involved in the preparation and maintenance of this unique and marvelous property.
Why the Owner Chose Muskegon:
I had managed this property and knew the area. I realized it would make a perfect vacation property since it is so close to Lake Michigan.
The Unique Benefits at this Townhome:
Cherry House Resort is cozy and clean. It’s a charming cottage. It’s a perfect “get-away”. Every effort has been made to create a comfortable home for vacationers. Since Lake Michigan is only a couple walking minutes away – you are able to return to the beach several times a day if you like. Both Lake Michigan and Muskegon Lake offer stunning sunsets which seem to go on for hours with clouds and backlighting. Muskegon Lake has two access points only one block away from Cherry House. There are miscellaneous dune walks. It is possible to walk to two different restaurants and the USS Silversides Museum. Bike paths can take you all the way to North Muskegon! Downtown Lakeside is nearby with specialty shops and a movie theatre. There are local pubs with limited dining, ice cream, hot dog stands and marinas. After a day of enjoyment at the beach you can retire to your own back yard. The yard is shadow-box fenced for your privacy. There is seating for 12+. Have a fire (we supply all the wood). Enjoy the gas barbeque grill. There are several festivals throughout the entire year. We have two 10-speed bikes and one old fashion bike with a basket for your use. You are sure to enjoy yourself at this pleasant, charming and comfortable home.
