Spectacular mountain views and a gorgeous beach provide the setting for our two-bedroom, one-bath, Non-Smoking, cedar house on the rural Windward Coast of Oahu.
This is our home located on Kualoa Ranch, our family's historic and beautiful working cattle ranch. The house, a pleasant country cottage with cathedral ceilings and picture windows, sits at the mouth of the magnificent Kaaawa Valley. The view from the deck includes cattle grazing beneath fluted cliffs. Egrets, mynah birds, and cardinals abound in the expansive garden area, and coconut palms frame a small ornamental pond.
Only steps away, across a small, two-lane road, the beach is ideal for swimming, boogie boarding, surfing, or lazing in the sun. A leisurely walk out the back door takes you into the magnificent Kaaawa Valley, the site of many film locations, including Jurassic Park, Mighty Joe Young, Tears of the Sun, and Godzilla. There are hiking and biking trails throughout the valley. Other activities such as tennis, horseback riding, and four-wheeler tours can be arranged through Kualoa Ranch.
Nestled among stands of coconut palms and hala trees, the house offers airy and spacious living and dining areas, wall-to-wall carpet and tile floors, a complete kitchen, washer and dryer, linens, and cable TV/VCR. There is a wrap-around deck for outdoor lounging and dining.
This is one of the most beautiful and serene locations on the island of Oahu, yet is only a 40 minute drive to Honolulu, 20 minutes to several golf courses and 30 minutes to the famous North Shore Beaches. Come and enjoy our lovely corner of the islands as much as we do!

As locals we needed a place to stay near family in Hau'ula. The place made us feel like home, quiet nights and great view of the mountains. My kids enjoyed the watching the ranchers and horses from the Mushroom house and the beach. Thank you Arish for making our family vacation one to remember. My kids are still talking about it! I fell in love with Kualoa Ranch and this entire area on my first trip to Oahu last year. I absolutely had to stay here on my next visit. The Mushroom House is a priceless gem! Tropical breezes streaming throughout the house all day and night along with the breathtaking view of Ka’a’awa valley will be in my memories forever. I loved the night sounds coming from the valley and the rooster’s wake up call in the mornings. The backyard view alone is enough to call this place perfect but add the beach a few paces down the driveway and it’s my version of heaven! The house is very clean and equipped with everything you possibly need. We were thrilled to see Arish had a couple of boogie boards in the closet and we used them with delight. Eating a meal on the wrap around porch or taking a stroll on the isolated beach with such beauty always around you is the epitome of serenity for me. I truly hope to return for a longer stay in the future.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

if waking up to the sun warming the Koolaus outside the back door after a night of gentle rain lulling you to sleep sounds like a great start to the day, this is your slice of paradise. we loved brewing a cup of kona coffee and pouring it into our kualoa mugs, then walking across the street to stroll along the ocean and enjoy our coffee. evenings were peaceful and relaxed; enjoyed a "home cooked" meal after a day of touring oneside or the other of the island. the home is comfortable, well stocked and well furnished. there is no place like country to stay and feel at home on oahu. we hate to recommend it so much, because we'd love to just keep it our secret...plan to stop at a grocery store and pick up some supplies for breakfast, etc... it's too beautiful to want to rush off in the morning to find something. we ate lunch out, but loved being back at the house for dinner. safeway in kaneohe is your best bet if you want to include wine/beer in your purchase-otherwise laie has a nice foodland and they will give you the club card discounts just by giving your phone number (safeway won't!)Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

We decided to take our honeymoon on Oahu, Hawaii. We rented two different houses, this being the second. Our main reason for renting this home was the gorgeous view and location, and the view was definitely gorgeous. The description of the land behind the house is falsely advertised. It states, "A leisurely walk out the back door takes you into the magnificent Kaaawa Valley, the site of many film locations, including Jurassic Park, Mighty Joe Young, Tears of the Sun, and Godzilla. There are hiking and biking trails throughout the valley that you can walk and hike behind the home". No. You cannot do that, it is owned by the ranch and you are only allowed to pay for a touristy trap type of tours. It was slightly difficult to reach the owner for entry upon arrival, a bit cold of a welcome with only an entry code text. She confirmed the next day there is no trespassing in the valley behind the home. We were pretty bummed. Upon first entry, the only thing we noticed was a strong musty smell. The home was as pictured, though its overall worn and outdated appearance was not represented in the photographs. The home was fully equipped with tons of stuff, though again most things were average quality at best, which include the mattress. The overall vibe of the place was like staying at your grandparents vacation cabin. Not the best for a honeymoon, but just okay overall. The backyard, wrap around deck, and awesome view are definitely the highlight of the home.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We can highly recommend the Mushroom House for its comfort, and beautiful location. The mountains of the Kaaawa Valley frame the view from the deck. The sound of the ocean from the beach just across the street. Take your coffee as you take your morning walk along the beach. Our party of five had a plenty of room. (Five included our two teenage children, my wife and my Dad). We love this area. Went horse back riding at the Kualoa Ranch. Chinaman's Hat and Uncle Bobo's BBQ just down the road. 20 minutes from the Windward Mall in Kaneohe. A couple of blocks further is Fresh Catch featured on "Diners..." for some of the best Poke around. Excellent experience with the team at www.hawaiiparadisevacationhomes.com. Great to work with them. Not my first trip to the islands, but one of my best.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

Thank you so much Arish for making my stay at the Mushroom House the best part of my whole trip. I travelled to Kauai and later to Waikiki for a work conference and I stayed in those 5 star resorts but nothing (and I'm being sincere here) will beat the experience I had while staying at Mushroom House for 4 days. The place is magnificent, the location is ideal and the house comfortable and cosy. I would recommend it to everybody who wants to explore the North Shore and experience the real Hawaii, far away from shopping and busy streets. I will come back again Arish :) By the way talking to you on Skype and organizing payment was easy and a pleasure. We have been to Oahu 3 times over the past year and one half to visit our daughter. The first two times we stayed at some beautiful large resorts but I have to say we enjoyed our stay at the Mushroom House more. We were able to spend more quality time with our daughter. Instead of having to travel or make reservations for all our meals we were able to enjoy each other's company by preparing our own at the Mushroom House. Instead of having to travel distances for activities, we enjoyed the hiking and horseback riding available at the local ranch. We only had to walk across the street to enjoy the ocean. And the views from the back deck were spectacular.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

If you think you need to leave Oahu with its tourist mobs behind and fly to another of the islands to access a true old Hawaii, in-your-face nature retreat, you might want to consider the Mushroom House as your destination instead. Set at the foot of one of the few uninhabited and undeveloped ecosystems on Oahu, this spacious house looks up an unbelievably dramatic valley of iconic Hawaiian pali cliffs, lush vegetation, rolling pastures…the location for about every tropical movie you’ve ever seen. And the entire valley is all yours to explore with the complimentary walking pass to the Kualoa Ranch and the Kaaawa Valley provided with the property. The beach and surf are a mere few hundred feet away across the Kamehameha Highway, tempting with lovely sunrise walks and gorgeous views of the windward shore. If you need organized activity, the Kualoa Ranch offers discounted tours for Mushroom House guests – ATV, horseback, “jungle” rides, beach excursions, and more. Kualoa County Park with additional beach choices is a mile away, the Tropical Farms Macadamia Nut Plantation a mile further, and Kaneohe shopping or the North Shore surfing minutes away. But once you have arrived, you won’t want to leave. The house is truly a unique island home, light and airy with natural ventilation augmented by fans in every room, fully equipped and very functional. The pictures of the Mushroom House are very accurate and complete, and all amenities were as described. On Oahu, you will not find another property as away-from-it-all and relaxing—your own movie set for the vacation of your life. We will not hesitate to return to the Mushroom House on a future occasion or to recommend it to our friends and families as a great place to stay on Oahu. It was a great find.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We loved the Mushroom House near the Ranch. We are so glad we stayed there and will return when we do go back. The scenery is breathtaking and hard to believe. We were in shock when we got back to burned up Texas which is flat and not a lot of scenery. The Mushroom House is perfect for a small family looking for the real Hawaii. If you want excitement, noise, traffic, party'sand a crowded type of vacation then by all means stay in Waikiki. Stay at the Mushroom House if you want to experience beautiful sunrises, rainbows across the mountains, a huge yard with lots of room, a clean and empty beach across the street, the North Shore and Kamehameha Highway easily accessible as well as Kaneohe and Kailua. We went to Hanauma Bay one day and a very beautiful drive as well. Honolulu is like any city. We saw the major sites in the city; but, were so glad we were able to come home to the countryside of the Kualoa Ranch. By the way, we did the movie tour at the ranch and the Aii Tour at the Macadamia Farm. We got a discount and we enjoyed both but we recommend the Aii Tour at the Macadamia Farm. Those guys did a wonderful job on the tour and we especially loved picking the fresh fruit off the trees on the tour. We really loved walking on the Kualoa Ranch. Thank you to the family/owners for allowing us to hike on your ranch, that was one of the highlights of our vacation. It was an added bonus that made our vacation really special. The Mushroom House is a special home. We hope we can return soon someday.Recommended for: Families with young children, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

The Mushroom House is a peaceful place to unwind and enjoy Oahu away from the Waikiki crowds. Although there isn't a view of the ocean, it is a very short walk to a beach. You can hear the surf from the house, and the view of the mountains, pond, and pastureland on the Kualoa Ranch is spectacular. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and just watching the weather change, the birds, and butterflies. The property manager was very helpful throughout the rental process. Unfortunately, I had to be on crutches during my visit to Hawaii. The rental agent was kind enough to locate a lounge chair for me to use on the deck during our stay. We would love to return to the Mushroom House!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
