Spectacular mountain views and a gorgeous beach provide the setting for our two-bedroom, one-bath, Non-Smoking, cedar house on the rural Windward Coast of Oahu.

This is our home located on Kualoa Ranch, our family's historic and beautiful working cattle ranch. The house, a pleasant country cottage with cathedral ceilings and picture windows, sits at the mouth of the magnificent Kaaawa Valley. The view from the deck includes cattle grazing beneath fluted cliffs. Egrets, mynah birds, and cardinals abound in the expansive garden area, and coconut palms frame a small ornamental pond.

Only steps away, across a small, two-lane road, the beach is ideal for swimming, boogie boarding, surfing, or lazing in the sun. A leisurely walk out the back door takes you into the magnificent Kaaawa Valley, the site of many film locations, including Jurassic Park, Mighty Joe Young, Tears of the Sun, and Godzilla. There are hiking and biking trails throughout the valley. Other activities such as tennis, horseback riding, and four-wheeler tours can be arranged through Kualoa Ranch.

Nestled among stands of coconut palms and hala trees, the house offers airy and spacious living and dining areas, wall-to-wall carpet and tile floors, a complete kitchen, washer and dryer, linens, and cable TV/VCR. There is a wrap-around deck for outdoor lounging and dining.

This is one of the most beautiful and serene locations on the island of Oahu, yet is only a 40 minute drive to Honolulu, 20 minutes to several golf courses and 30 minutes to the famous North Shore Beaches. Come and enjoy our lovely corner of the islands as much as we do!

Real Hawaii: spectacular vacation at the Mushroom House!!

Guest: Loved Kualoa Ranch (San Antonio, Texas)
Date of Stay: 07/06/11 Review Submitted: 07/30/11

We loved the Mushroom House near the Ranch. We are so glad we stayed there and will return when we do go back. The scenery is breathtaking and hard to believe. We were in shock when we got back to burned up Texas which is flat and not a lot of scenery. The Mushroom House is perfect for a small family looking for the real Hawaii. If you want excitement, noise, traffic, party'sand a crowded type of vacation then by all means stay in Waikiki. Stay at the Mushroom House if you want to experience beautiful sunrises, rainbows across the mountains, a huge yard with lots of room, a clean and empty beach across the street, the North Shore and Kamehameha Highway easily accessible as well as Kaneohe and Kailua. We went to Hanauma Bay one day and a very beautiful drive as well. Honolulu is like any city. We saw the major sites in the city; but, were so glad we were able to come home to the countryside of the Kualoa Ranch. By the way, we did the movie tour at the ranch and the Aii Tour at the Macadamia Farm. We got a discount and we enjoyed both but we recommend the Aii Tour at the Macadamia Farm. Those guys did a wonderful job on the tour and we especially loved picking the fresh fruit off the trees on the tour. We really loved walking on the Kualoa Ranch. Thank you to the family/owners for allowing us to hike on your ranch, that was one of the highlights of our vacation. It was an added bonus that made our vacation really special. The Mushroom House is a special home. We hope we can return soon someday.

Good deal for the price

For the price, the location and quality of the home was a good value. Postives: near a good, virtually empty beach (simply walk across the street). Location on beautiful grounds and views excellent. Easy access to great hikes out backyard. Constructive: Quality of bedding and sheets are weak (uncomfortable). Small details (toilet paper, salt/pepper, laundry detergent) not available in home. Not much nearby in the area (restaurants etc..).

Paradise in Paradise

The Mushroom House is a peaceful place to unwind and enjoy Oahu away from the Waikiki crowds. Although there isn't a view of the ocean, it is a very short walk to a beach. You can hear the surf from the house, and the view of the mountains, pond, and pastureland on the Kualoa Ranch is spectacular. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and just watching the weather change, the birds, and butterflies. The property manager was very helpful throughout the rental process. Unfortunately, I had to be on crutches during my visit to Hawaii. The rental agent was kind enough to locate a lounge chair for me to use on the deck during our stay. We would love to return to the Mushroom House!

Pretty cool, we got to see Godizilla's footprints!!!

The Mushroom House was great for our family. The perfect place for me to celebrate the 5-0. We enjoyed being able to go hiking up the Kaaawa Valley. It was perfect for hosting a dinner with our cousins who live on Oahu. Staying in at the Mushroom House was so much different (way better!) than other vacation for us on the islands. I started feeling like it was home and wasn't ready to head back to Seattle. When we first arrived it was difficult for us to adjust to the heat (thanks for the extra fans), however by the time we left it actually felt chilly in the morning. Looking forward to coming back next year. Stop at the Waikane Store for the best mochi chicken, shrimp balls, and spam musubi.

a soothing place to stay- the Mushroom House

Guest: Bluma (Oakland, Ca)
Date of Stay: 10/02/10 Review Submitted: 10/25/10

The Mushroom House is a great place to stay if you prefer staying away from tourist areas. The house is privately situated on shared grounds with another house and is set back far from the street which makes it very quiet. The setting is amazing, with lush greenery surrounding the property. The house is clean and has basic amenities- free Wifi, coffee pot, clean sheets and extra towels. If you are not interested in staying in a big fancy hotel and prefer street tacos to breakfast buffet, then I recommend the Mushroom House.

Owner response:The mushroom house does not share the grounds with any other homes...This property is a rather large lot, there are 2 homes set off to the side (further away from this property) maybe thats what guest meant by "privately situated" The Mushroom house stands alone by itself on the large lot. We thank you for staying with us and your feedback :)
