Redwood Hollow Cottages is a Historic Garden Oasis in the Village of La Jolla, California. We are 400 feet from a sandy beach ("Whispering Sands" or "Horseshoe" Beach), and around the corner from the ocean bluffs and Pacific tide pools. The village shops and restaurants are four blocks away. The museums and recreation center are two blocks away. Sea World and the San Diego Zoo are a 25 minute drive. Legoland is 25 miles away in Carlsbad.
The cottages are arranged in a garden setting and some have their own private and secluded patios. Most have full kitchens and fireplaces. The units range from studios to one bedroom, and two bedroom, two bath accommodations. There are several patios on the property to sit back and relax, or a stroll around the corner will bring you to a walk along the ocean bluffs and seaside park with a seal colony.

Basic Cable TV, Coffeemaker, Toaster, Full Kitchen (Most cottages), Fireplace (most cottages), Wireless Internet Access, The cottages are self-catering, with fresh linens & towels supplied at the beginning of the stay; There are two coin laundries on the property, Additional housekeeping service is available at a nominal fee, Cancellation fee of $50 if reservation is cancelled at least 30 days prior to arrival, with fewer than 30 days notice there are no refunds, Changes are subject to a $25 fee (unless nights are added), Cleaning fees and refundable deposits may be additional. No-Party Policy: Any noise or activity that disrupts the normal atmosphere of Redwood Hollow is not allowed, and parties are prohibited. Year Purchased: 1988
I have always been interested in Historic Properties and Historic Preservation of these properties.
While an older child, and then a teenager, I worked at my Aunt's "rooming house" in Atlantic City, New Jersey in the summers in the early and mid-1950's.
Now, this large Victorian Home would be considered a Bed and Breakfast.
I told myself that I would like to do this work someday, as well as own a Historic Property.
In the meantime, i became a Physician from 1965-2003. During that time, I had the opportunity to purchase a 1915 Cottage Colony in la Jolla, California. I have worked on it for the past 20 years to convert it into quaint cottage rentals, and operate it now as a mini-hotel of 8 units near the beach. The sizes range from Studios to two bedroom cottages. Some of them have fireplaces and most have full kitchens. What a wonderful opportunity that I have found something which I enjoy doing in my retirement from Medicine.

There is a niche for vacationing guests to enjoy accommodations which are individual and cozy, as well as being in the perfect location 1 block from beaches, steps away from shops, and have the advantge of having access to all water sports, as well as every major recreational activity offered in Southern California. When I found this historic colony in this water close location, I knew that I would like to purchase it.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottages
Our guests enjoy extreme privacy since all of our cottages do not share party walls, and are separate little homes. they can pass time by also by finding a nook in our outdoor gardens. They can walk a block, and be on almost private "Whispering Sands" beach. They can have the flexibility of having their meals in the cottages.
